Luxurious Villa in Sardinia with five superior rooms and private bathrooms
I am Danilo, husband and father of two sons and five Maltesini. I follow and take care of the Castle of Borgo Antico XIX in Gesturi, helped by Milena, our housekeeper and by Andrea, the husband, who follows with scrupulous care and love our green gardens. Our passion and our pleasure is to open the doors of our small castle to guests to show the beauty and care of the house, thanks to the loving care of Milena and Andrea.
Owner purchased this Castle in 2008
Why Owner chose Gesturi
When we saw it for the first time, we fell in love at first sight, even if it frightened us the idea of restructuring it because it was in precarious conditions. What fascinated most was its structure in the shape of a small medieval castle with towers in the sides and lots of garden to reorganize. After having bought and renovated for personal use and for the whole family, we decided to open the doors to tourists because we realized that it was a shame not to be able to share it with those seeking relaxation and a warm and comfortable environment in the countryside.
What makes this Castle unique
What we liked the most was renovating it, because day by day we made the decisions trying to realize our dream. We preferred to reduce the number of bedrooms to give ample space to the common areas and inserting both the piano and the billiards. the exteriors have been cared for by setting up a green lawn that would allow our children and their friends to play safely and in total freedom. Always outside there are large areas sheltered from the sun or rain to allow us in any season to have lunch or breakfast outdoors enjoying the great outdoors. Just recently we decided to integrate the pool and an outdoor Jacuzzi for to be able to give refreshment to the guests on the hottest days, perhaps after an excursion on the Giara or a visit to the Nuraghi. I can not deny that making the decision to open the doors to guests was not easy initially, having renovated and furnished for personal use, then we realized that it was a mistake not to allow other people to share what we had achieved with joy and sacrifice. Happy holidays to all.

Danilo e Milena
The Villa is situated on the slopes of the Giara plateau. The fame of the area is mainly linked to its wild and uncontaminated beauty, inhabited by very rare animals. The area is in fact frequented by the only herd existing in Italy and in Europe of wild horses better known as "Giara horses". Of small dimensions, their origin is shrouded in mystery, particular that enhances the charm of these robust and peaceful animals. All this environment is dominated by cork oaks. Unique feature of these trees is their "crooked posture". Almost all of them, in fact, appear to be inclined because of the force of the wind that blows impetuously and undisturbed for almost the whole year, managing to bend the plants, even when small and resting them over the years to an almost oblique position.
In addition to the churches and gave birth to Fra Nicola, beatified in 1999 by Pope John Paul II and now close to sanctification as requested by Pope Francis. the territory of Gesturi is characterized by the presence of numerous nuraghic sites. In fact, the quantity of pre-nuragic testimonies (menhir, domus de janas), nuragiche like the nuraghe and the giants' tombs, and the Punic-Roman ones present on the territory is impressive. As mentioned before, various studies and research have made it possible to estimate the presence of about thirty nuragic and archaeological sites. In addition to the protonuraghe "Bruncu Madugui", there are 32 other sites, almost all located on the Giara plateau.
Not to be missed is the proximity to Barumini (4 Km), famous all over the world for the "Su Nuraxi" nuragic complex declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Also in Barumini there is "Casa Zapata" a wonderful and complex residence erected by the aragonese aragonese family of the Zapata family from the end of the 16th century.
In the nineties of the last century during the restoration of the palace it was discovered that the Zapata palace was built over the well-preserved remains of a nuragic settlement that the archaeologist Giovanni Lilliu, as it is located near the parish church, called Nuraxi and Cresia.
Thanks to an architectural restoration project of great scenographic impact elaborated by the architect Pietro Reali, both the baronial palace and the underlying nuraghe, appropriately brought to light, have become the site of a museum complex (called Museo Casa Zapata), inaugurated on July 29th 2006.
It is fascinating and difficult to describe the beauty of walking on the crystal floors of the ancient dwelling of the Zapata and seeing the ruins of the nuraghe below.
