I love travelling and receiving nice people from all over the world, to get to know their places, their experiences and share with them a little bit of my country, Portugal.
Get to know Portugal in a unique way, by getting to know local people and a local village which hasn't lost its identity and culture, Alcochete.
We were so grateful for the tour to the Alcochete festival and suggestions of what to see (and taste) there.
Thank you so much for the delicious breakfasts! Something for us all and homemade jams and cakes too! So good! And almost forgot the fresh lemonade and orange juice. This really made us feel pampered!
Finally we loved your garden tour and the wonderful animals. This was a real treat! We loved your homemade liquors.
All the best!
We stayed from 1 until 10 september in the house of Maria.
During that period the weather was fantastic. Only two days it was 40 celcius what was a litlle overdue.
But, the house was cool during this period what was a blessing.
We enjoyed our stay very much, vissits to Lisboa, setubal, Nazare etc, etc. our hostess Maria told us the places who deserved a visit. We enjoyed every days breakfast. Fresh bread, homemade marmelade, coffee, juices, yoghurts, fruit, etc, etc,
For everyone, parents with or without children, coppels seeking the romance in Lisboa, or golfers, this is a very good place to stay.
We surely come back.
Hemos pasado unos estupendos días en la casa de María. El trato ha sido muy amable y atento, facilitando conocer el entorno, está muy bien acondicionada y próxima a sitios de interés.
Os la recomendamos.
Loved the breakfast, chambers, garden, bathroom.
There is also one problem offcourse. There comes a day you have to leave that place and go home again. Your next holidays will never be that pleasent again. You will always long for that house in Alcochete.
We are a family of 5 (with three teenage girls) who had a very enjoyable and comfortable stay with Maria and Alice. We stayed for 4 nights as part of a tour of Portugal and couldn't recommend the property and hosts highly enough. We used the attic (for the children) and the tree room (for the adults). Both rooms are spacious, comfortable, very clean and nicely decorated. The breakfast provided is amazing, fresh bread, fruit from the garden and lots of it! Maria is an unobtrusive host, whilst going out of her way to be helpful. Providing local information (she showed us round Alcochete on our arrival, pointing out good places to eat and explaining about the festival that was going on), and provided maps and information about where we were planning on visiting (driving into Lisbon is not difficult if you are planning on taking a car, and the Setubal area is only 30 mins away) and good converstation. The liquors are to be recommended!
From the moment of our arrival to our reluctant departure, we enjoyed everything about our stay. The "tree room" was comfy, quiet and convenient, the bathroom sparkling clean, the food amazing and plentiful. The bus stop and the village are both a pleasant walk from the house. It is truly the best of both worlds - the quiet of the countryside and yet the easy commute to the city. We were able to enjoy the front porch sunshine with our books or make a 10 minute walk to the bus stop and explore Lisbon and the Setubal peninsula with no problem (we spent two weeks there with no car). Alcochete is a charming village with wonderful yet very reasonably priced restaurants serving excellent fish and wine. You couldn't ask for more helpful or considerate hosts than Maria and Alice. They consistently went out of their way to make our stay everything we'd hoped it would be and more. We came expecting to meet hosts and went away feeling like we'd left our friends. We definitely hope to return! We can't recommend Casa da Oliveira enough.
Alcochete is a friendly small fishing village just 15 minutes away from Lisbon. If you want to have a short experience on the local traditions and sites of Lisbon’s surroundings, this is just the right place for you to stay at. In Lisbon there are many beautiful sites to visit, monumental historical quarters, UNESCO world heritage sites (Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, Torre de Belém) and delicious gastronomy with plenty of fresh fish with the famous Portuguese sardines, codfish and rich pastry. 30 minutes away from Alcochete you also have Sintra monumental village, with also its UNESCO heritages, a real voyage through Portugal's history and traditions. In the surroundings, one can visit 'Arrabida' Natural Park and its beautiful beach resorts and feel the countryside, and if you're into sports, you can practice horse riding, paddle surf, kite surf, windsurf, tennis, riding bicycles, etc.
