|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
This charming chalet is less than a 10 minute walk or 2 minute drive to the cable car which is open winter and summer for skiing and mountain biking/hiking. It is also 50m from the ski bus stop. Colchique has huge character with its old wooden beams and stone walls; there is a spacious and light living/dining room with wood burning stove mounted on local Mont Blanc granite and spectacular views. This leads onto a large sunny balcony with plenty of seating.
The chalet has 5 spacious and luxurious bedrooms. There is one master bedroom on the first floor with ensuite (new for 2016). There is a twin room also on the first floor and a bathroom (both new for 2016). Then on the top floor there are three more double rooms and a further bathroom (new shower for 2016).
There is Wifi, a NESPRESSO machine , parking for 2 cars (one space in the garage) and there is a boot room for wet gear and we even have boot dryers for you. There is lots of entertainment - TV, Hifi/i-pod connector, massive DVD collection, XBOX & PS2, board games - and lots of guides/maps provided plus honesty drinks. Pretty garden with picnic table/bbq and we also allow guests to use two adult mountain bikes.
Winter Activities: Attached to the fourth largest ski area in France, Morillon offers a fantastic 265km of piste skiing for beginners/intermediates/experts. Except in the most popular weeks, it is unusual to queue either at all or for more than a minute. We have negotiated 5% off ski school and 15% off ski hire for guests for 2014.
Morillon is well recognised for its facilities for children in France with a choice of ski schools as well as ESF and nurseries (taking kids from 6 months) and some fantastic gentle long blues and greens in Morillon itself. It also provides great off piste for experts in winter, notably in the Lac du Gers bowl (have a look on snow forums about this) Flaine bowl and off the side of the blacks in Samoens, you can still make fresh tracks days after Chamonix is skiied out!
The free ski bus stop is 50 meters from the chalet or it is 10 mins walk (or 2 mins drive) to the cable car. In good snow conditions the bottom of the piste is a 5 minute walk back home.
Other activities include parapenting, dog sledding, snowshoeing, ice skating, sledging. Ski touring also possible
Summer Activities: The chalet is equally good in summer with a big sunny balcony and a garden planted with many of the native alpine plants and a BBQ.
There is also great hiking, mountain biking and plenty of other adventurous activities like parapenting, horse riding and rafting. Lac Blue, 5 minutes walk away, has a sandy beach, playground, tennis courts, boules, crazy golf, beach volley ball, zip wire park - and often trampolines, quads and pony rides too.
The Chalet is a 15 minute drive from Europe's underrated answer to Yosemite - Sixt Fer a Cheval (or 'the horse shoe') with its numerous waterfalls and the famous GR5 hiking route passes through the valley (hire a donkey for the day if you have little ones!). There are two zip wire parks and a Via Ferrata within 10 mins drive too.
For a more relaxing time, there are botanical gardens and there is a very luxurious spa (with swimming pool/spa/sauna/treatments) in the valley. Or just sit on the balcony, NESPRESSO coffee in hand and absorb the magnificent views in the sun.
Things to do: We give our guests full use of our library of walking and biking maps and guides to the area and give our top tips for the best restaurants and things to do on the occasional rainy day in summer (local markets in both Samoens and Morillon, Annecy - the Venice of France, medieval Yvoire, local botanic garden, mountain museum) and for keen skiers we have some recommended day trips to take advantage of the fact there are so many other major resorts within a 45 minute drive (Les Gets, Chamonix, Les Portes du Soleil, Megeve, La Clusaz).
The chalet has all mod cons included - WiFi, Nespresso coffee machine, TV, DVD, PlayStation, X-Box, fireplace, oven, microwave, dishwasher, cafetiere, washing machine, tumble dryer, iron, BBQ, hair dryer, etc. etc. We also provide two mountain bikes, tennis racquets and snowshoes. You can also help yourself to to our great DVD and music collection, our honesty drinks shelf and to our herb patch!
For transfers we recommend a taxi company as he lives 50m away so won't be late! See http://www.alps-direct.com or contact email@example.com
We are quite into our skiing - all types. Damian started as a cross country skier and I stagger along in his wake. Also for the last 7 years we've been ski touring (ski randonee). We are also parents to two lively boy/girl twins.
Vic is a Royal Horticultural Society qualified garden designer and mural artist who has recently launched a new business Tesora Design.
Victoria Granger purchased this chalet in 2004
I was aiming to buy in Morzine but decided the valley was too dark and the skiing was too unreliable except in Avoriaz. The Grand Massif is smaller than the Portes du Soleil ski area (it is still the 5th largest area in France!), but it has much better snow. I also fell in love with the Giffre valley as it feels so rural (I believe it is one of the least populated valleys in the whole region) and pretty, not just a tourist trap. The summer season here is actually just as buzzy as winter which amazed me though most Brits have yet to discover it at this time of year. There are still working farms here selling produce directly to the public. And the chalet itself - I've seen many magnificent views, but these are particularly uplifting, the mountains turning pink at sunset! And the place has so much character, without the inconvenience that often goes with - there aren't any bedrooms that feel like a cupboard with a bed stuck in it for example. Very friendly neighbours helped too. One of my neighbours was actually born in this chalet. She is now the fittest 84 year old I have ever met - clearly the air around here is pretty good.
It's just a very welcoming chalet - space enough for everyone if they want to find a quiet spot, but with a central hub based around the living area with its great views and warming stove which is great for socialising.
We bought the chalet in 2004, but only started renting in 2008, so we decorated and furnished it for us - not just as some commercial project with minimal ikea furniture and cooking utensils - so it feels very warm and has everything you could need!
Thats me back home and just wanted to say that we had a great time. Chalet was wonderful and cleanest place we have stayed skiing! Thank you for allowing us to use "your home from home'
Chalet was perfect, clean comfortable, beautiful decour. We were two families with 5 children and the chalet had everything we required. Great location, either 10 min walk into town and Gondola or 2 mins by car. Amazing boulangerie 5 mins walk away, Excellent communication by the Victoria. Morillon is really for beginners, but also good access to a wider range of runs for more experienced skiers/snowboarders. We enjoyed so much we have booked again for next year
Just returned from a week skiing. Chalet is fantastic - a real home from home. It had everything we needed and more. Would definately recommend. Thanks again Victoria for allowing us to stay in your lovely alpine home.
We, a group of seven and a 1year old baby, had a lovely stay in chalet Colchique. The chalet actually surpassed our expectations (which were fairly high due to all the enthusiastic reviews here). We especially liked the well equipped kitchen, the very comfy couch, the good sized rooms, the bootroom downstairs and the views!
The chalet is very charming inside and out with wooden beams running through the upper floor and of course the big fireplace. It also has all modern facilities you could wish for: dishwasher, flatscreen tv with dvd player, washer and dryer downstairs and even bootdryers and gameconsoles! I was also pleasantly surprised to discover the massive warm water tanks hiding behind the screen with the Eidelweis mural in one of the bathrooms: hot water was never in short supply!
The guide to the area that Victoria has composed was very usefull too! We decided on eating out at La Fandioleuse, a charming creperie in nearby Samoens. They have some of the most outrageously flavoured crepes I've ever seen (all very tasty!), but as the guide says they are tiny so a reservation is necessary. They will take reservations on the phone for bigger groups, smaller groups need to go there and leave a deposit. Another good reason to make a reservations would be to be able to order their slow-cooked signature dish, which is mysteriously called "castrated soup" and is cooked for twelve hours, so it needs to be ordered in advance. The same goes for their fondues and both seemed worth the trouble from the delicious aromas coming from the table next to us!
The pistes are easily reached from the chalet: the skibus (twice an hour mostly) stops at the end of the drive and there's a big parking lot (free) right at the gondola in Morillon. The walk into Morillon takes less than ten minutes (bakery opens at seven in the morning: a stroll there and back wakes you up nicely and ensures fresh croissants and bread for breakfast!).
Getting to the higher situated Flaine from Morillon Village is easy on ski's (takes about 50 minutes including four lifts and three blue pistes). Driving their takes about the same time, but you get lovely views over Cluses and the surrounding mountains.
I really don't have anything negative to say about this chalet! If anything I suppose comfortable seating would be a bit cramped when staying with 10 people, but I imagine this could easily be remedied by bringing some of the garden chairs in.
All in all highly recommended!
Had a great time skiing this year, the chalet was fantastic equipped with everything you could possibly need.
I will be trying to arrange a summer holiday to Chalet Colchique
We had a perfect stay at the Chalet. As a big group of 10 plus 1 child we still found the Chalet spacious enough to accommodate us comfortably, the bedrooms are all beautifully furnished and the whole Chalet has a very homely feel. For the nights we spent indoors the large dvd collection and games came in very handy! Hiring a car meant we were a 5 minute drive from well stocked supermarkets. The ski bus literally goes from the bottom of the road and is well connected to Morillon, Samoens and Sixt. Would definitely recommend this Chalet to families and groups. Also the catering service we had recommended by Victoria was excellent, they cooked us up a feast on New Years day for a very reasonable price!!
The Chalet is beautiful and we had a fantastic time there! Great for larger groups, there were two families and it was perfect! It really knocked spots off staying in the Grand Massif Hotel last year (2 mins away!) It is lovely and spacious with everything you could possibly need, there is so much equipment/utensils to cater for all needs, we really had a lovely stay (and forgot to write in the visitors book!)
Thanks again (.. and we hope to be visiting again in the future)
Also Victoria was very very helpful with any questions I had regarding the area/shop opening times etc. :)
Luxury chalet sleeps 10 plus a cot. Located in snow-sure ski area of the Grand Massif, it's an easy 1 hour drive from Geneva airport and 50 meter walk to the ski bus stop or a 10 minute walk to the lifts. In good snow conditions the bottom of the piste is a 5 minute walk back home. Morillon's traditional village with bakery, cafes and restaurants is a 5 minute walk and Samoen's stunning village is 5 minute drive.
The chalet is located 10 minutes from the supermarket and Lac Bleu with its great summer and winter facilities - ice-rink, swimming in the lake with a sandy beach, tennis courts, beach volleyball court, horse riding, adventure park, trampolines, boules, crazy golf and playground.
Other Activities: ice skating, trampolines, playground, via Ferrata, climbing, rafting, zip wire park, caving, cross country skiing, Alpine Botantical Garden, weekly market, cinema.
Golf: Golf course in Les Gets which is 25 minute drive and a very high golf course in Flaine, 50 minutes away.
Ski: The Grand Massif is France's fourth largest ski area, and enjoys a unique microclimate due to its proximity to Mont Blanc which means it is snow sure. The chalet is 10 minute walk to the lifts or 5 mins back from the pistes in good snow conditions, or 50m from the ski bus stop.
The Grand Massif is highly rated for all levels - beginners can enjoy the local gentle blues and greens in Morillon itself (the marvel run is a beautiful long green, which helps build up beginner confidence, away from the crowds and, lined with trees, is particularly beautiful), while intermediates have 265km of piste to explore particularly the 16km long Cascades blue run down to Sixt, one of the longest runs in the world. Experts can relish the blacks and the great off-piste, particularly in the legendary Lac du Gers bowl (have a look on snow forums about this bowl) Flaine bowl and off the side of the black runs in Samoens. Morillon is the home of 2006 downhill gold medalist Antoine Deneriaz so there are plenty of challenges around!
Except on some Sundays and the most peak weeks it is rare to queue, so you can really make the most of your limited time skiing. And enjoying the great mountain restaurants like Le Beu Creperie in Morillon and Le Michet in Flaine.
Other hot tips, if you want to mix up your skiing and try another resort there are plenty within an hours drive. Les Gets is only 20 minutes away, and you can ski Mont Chery (a beautiful quiet sunny mountain) for only EUR 17 per day if you love red and black runs. Day trips to Avoriaz, Chamonix, Megeve, La Clusaz all very easy - max 1 hour away.
