Saint Seurin - Fondaudège Apartment Rental Photos and Description

The apartment is on the first floor of a beautiful limestone building, typical of the local classical architectural style, with its large windows opening onto a long balcony which directly overlooks the “Jardin Public”. The apartment enjoys a privileged location within the UNESCO classified sector and because it faces in a Southwardly direction, it is extremely light.

The apartment was renovated in 2011, to introduce a touch of modernity and color while respecting all the traditional fixtures and mouldings. Particular care was given to the quality of its furnishings and of its equipment, while maintaining the classical refinement of its style. We believe it offers a sophisticated, comfortable and cozy atmosphere. A quiet area, equipped with WiFi, a printer and a scanner, provides all the necessary amenities for work or study (should you need to) during your stay. The apartment provides a comfortable living space to two people.

New York Times has just ranked Bordeaux as second 2016 top touristic destination in the world !

Besides the architectural beauties of its Unesco-listed largest urban World Heritage site, and the quality of its restaurants, it particularly highlights the Cité du Vin, which will offer the visitor, from next June, a voyage around the world, through the ages, across the countless cultures and civilizations of wine and a unique experience within a fantastic piece of architecture. A must for wine lovers!

There are also many cultural things to do and see in Bordeaux: Concerts, operas, ballets, theatre. There are several well-stocked museums for lovers of history and the plastic and decorative arts.

Those who are interested in more sensual pleasures can take courses in cooking or wine tasting; or they can simply go and appreciate the local gastronomic specialties in one of the many wine-bars and restaurants of the city. Bordeaux’s oenological tourism is well renowned.

Lastly, Bordeaux is a first choice destination for shopping: you will find here all the most famous fashion brands.

You will find lots of information about places to visit and things do in Bordeaux in the apartment. We will also be happy to help you to gather further information and to prepare in advance the programme of your activities.

------- PRACTICAL INFORMATION: Within two hundred metres from the apartment, you will find all the shops and services necessary to meet your basic needs, along with several restaurants. A bit further away but still within walking distance, you will reach the Chartrons area, with its wide choice of first choice foods shops, antique shops, bars and restaurants.

A bus station stands some twenty metres from the apartment building. The tramway station can be found on the other side of the “Jardin Public”. For 10 € you can purchase a travelcard which will give you a week’s use of all the public transport of the town.

You will also find a public bike rental facility (with on-line booking, and credit card payment) some 50 metres from the apartment. Do not hesitate also to use the services of the “Taxi-bikes”, which will take you for a touristic trip within the city or to the destination of your choice.

You will find all the information you need about these in the apartment.

------- OUR 'PLUS': We will do our very best to make your stay the easiest and most pleasant as possible.

- If you need a TAXI to fetch you from the airport, we can book one for you. He will wait for you at the airport and you can pay him when you arrive at your apartment.

- When you arrive, you will find that we have stocked the apartment with SOME BASIC FOODS.

A beautiful and elegant apartment in Bordeaux

  • 5 of 5

My partner and myself spent over a week in this beautiful apartment. It was exactly as described, clean and very well equipped with everything needed to make it a home from home. The apartment is elegant and stylish and nothing was too much trouble for Claude and Bernadette who also provided us with all the information we needed to make the most of the gorgeous City of Bordeaux and the surrounding areas. Jardin Public which the apartment overlooks provided a peaceful area to walk and read, there are some lovely artisan local shops as well as the facilities of the City to enjoy. We would definitely go back and highly recommend it.

Owner's Response: It was a real pleasure to receive such charming guests. Not only supporters of the Welsh’s football team when it played at Bordeaux during the last European Football Cup, but also explorers and lovers of the many beauties of our city. You’ll be welcome Paul and Karon if you want to come back and visit us again.

Gracious living in Bordeaux

  • 5 of 5

The view of the Jardin Public is exceptional, the dimensions and beauty of the rooms delightful, china, linens and many other touches are of superior quality and most of all, the welcome by the hosts (including thoughtful directions, supplies in the kitchen, fresh breakfast viennoiseries and bread and milk on arrival) made our stay memorable. M. et Mme. Raynaut are gifted hosts and you feel as if you are being received into their home. M. Raynaut's English is exceptionally good (he speaks 6 languages, according to Mme. Raynaut) and when we had trouble finding seats at the ballet (before we arrived), he checked the theatre website for us and gave us a successful tip for its use. On the very practical side, everything in the apartment functions and is well-cared for--of note in a rental. The beds were very comfortable. And the stairs to the first floor are gentle. We would happily return.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much, Roger and Marcia, for your detailed and laudatory description of our apartment and of its location. With regard to the way we receive our guests, it is our pleasure to welcome them as we’d do with old friends. Letting La Cascade gives us the opportunity to meet interesting people from everywhere in the world and we enjoy very much these encounters. Meeting music, art and gastronomy lovers as you are was a real privilege. We are looking forward to receiving you again and to introducing you to other touristic treasures of Bordeaux and its surroundings.

Perfect scores for Location, Facilities & Hosting

  • 5 of 5

Bordeaux city is the best for every thing French and central to many nearby day train trips. Your host even has a 'copy' of the Tourist office in the apartment and was so helpful in sourcing rental car and train options for our visit to Les Ezies prehistoric attractions. The Arrival welcome and assistance made for easy stay with directions to all the markets for speciality foods for our cook-up. Tram C to/from Jarden Public was very easy to use. No need for a car! Brilliant to have good Wifi. Any couple wishing to stay in Bordeaux city would be nuts to stay anywhere else. But please don't book it on the dates (yet unknown) when we wish to return. Owner's Response: Thank you Maurice for underlining the special care we put in providing our guests with all the information and support they could need to enjoy fully the many touristic beauties not only of Bordeaux itself but also of the whole Aquitaine region. An efficient transportation system – buses, tramway, trains, and river boats - within the city and to the main touristic spots in a large surrounding make easily accessible destinations as diverse as Saint Emilion, Arcachon, Sarlat, les Eysies, or Biarritz. Even if you have visited some of them yet, there is no doubt that many remain to discover. You’ll be welcome whenever you decide to come and stay with us again.

Class with passion and enthusiasm

  • 5 of 5

Attention to every detail would be the overall umbrella to describe this remarkable apartment, which is virtually an oasis of tranquillity amid the bustle of large modern city. La Cascade's owners, Claude and Bernadette, themselves inveterate world travellers, have gone out of their way to incorporate original ideas gleaned from their extensive Homeaway sojourns overseas to facilitate the comfort of their own guests. The result has been the creation of a boutique apartment filled with charm and elegance. Professional to the core these indefatigable hosts are not only courteous and friendly, but attentive to even the minutest request. Their generous and warm welcome was epitomised in the welcoming arrival gift of fresh brioche, and a seductive drop of Chateau Peyrabon. Our week in Bordeaux will always be identical with La Cascade.

Bordeaux Beauty

We loved this apartment and would have loved to stay longer! Great character with soaring ceilings, tall Windows, balcony and a huge gorgeous park right across the street. Great bathroom and kitchen amenities. Public bus right outside, and walkable to shopping, food, restaurants. Claud was welcoming and spoke English which was tremendously helpful.

The apartment is in the Longchamps quarter of Bordeaux, which, despite being within easy walking distance to the town’s busiest and most lively shopping district, is an oasis of peace. Close by you will find the green and peaceful “Jardin Public” (or Public Park). Several nearby streets, which have retained their old cobblestones, contain residential townhouses. Can be also met some typical mansions of late 18th century architecture (such as the “Petit Hôtel Labottière”). A few hundred metres further along, you will find the last remaining vestiges of the roman Burdigala - the majestic ruins of the old local coliseum – the so-called “Palais Gallien”.

------- THE 'JARDIN PUBLIC' (formerly known as the Royal Gardens), originally laid out during the 18th Century but totally redesigned in the middle of the 19th Century to resemble an English Garden, begins just in front of the apartment and extends for eight hectares right into the centre of Bordeaux. Rare trees thoughtfully planted to evoke peace and harmony, luscious flower beds, swans swimming along the canal, a waterfall (just under the windows of the apartment), an old fashioned botanic garden, all these elements, mix together with classic-styled edifices remaining from the ancient Royal Gardens, make the park an ideal place to go for a walk, to run or to simply to sit on a bench to read or to dream.

------- THE GARONNE EMBANKMENT: A walk of a quarter of an hour will lead you to the Garonne River. On your way, you will cross the Jardin Public and pass along streets bordered with some of the most beautiful classic-styled buildings of the town: for example, the famous “Pavé des Chartrons”, an avenue where English and German wine merchants used to live during the 18th Century; and at the end of which you will find the beautiful “Hôtel Fenwick” where, in 1795, the first US consulate in the world was housed. The walk along the embankment of the Garonne will take you all through the city for 4 kilometres. On the side the river flows, you can sometimes admire majestic cruising ships on their arrival into the very heart of the city. On the other side, stand magnificent 17th and 18th century mansions, built in front of the harbour during the town’s Golden Age .

------ TOURISTIC DESTINATIONS: With its preserved historical sector of 1800 hectares – the largest inhabited urban area on the UNESCO World Heritage list – Bordeaux offers inexhaustible possibilities for discoveries and visits. And, in addition to the town itself, the environs of Bordeaux also offer many opportunities for enjoyable visits. Within a 50 kilometres radius, you will find the medieval city of Saint-Emilion, the wild Atlantic Ocean beaches, the elegant seaside resort of Arcachon, the Blaye fortress and many other castles and historical sites. You can reach them all by train or by bus and return within a one day.

------- THE ESTUARY: A river cruise on the Garonne or the Gironde estuary (in some places more than 10 kilometers wide) represents a unique experience due to the beauty of the landscapes and the quality of the light. You can also visit the lighthouse of Cordouan, an extraordinary baroque construction built in the river mouth in the 17th Century,

----- THE VINEYARDS: Of course, the name of Bordeaux is closely associated with the worldwide reputation of its wine. Oenological tourism is highly developed in the city and the region. The Tourism Office of the City of Bordeaux offers a large range of programmes to visit the most famous wine chateaux of the area. If you feel interested in more detailed touristic information, have a look to the websites of the Tourism office of Gironde ( and of the City of Bordeaux (

---- If you want to make your stay become an even more special experience, may we suggest you to call on “Bordeaux Walking Tours” which organizes private and small-group tours of the city with English-speaking guides? You will be able to choose among different themes, according to your personal interests. “Landmarks of Bordeaux Tour” will take you to the main historical spots of the city, from the Roman Empire right up to the modern times. With “Farmer’s Market Tour” you’ll discover the city’s best farmer’s market – Les Capucins -, while the “Gourmet Tour” will take you to three of the most treasured gourmet locations in Bordeaux (cheeses, desserts, wines). If you are wine lovers, “Wine in the City Tour” will give you to learn more about Bordeaux wine and its history and, last but not the least, to taste a selection of delicious Bordeaux wines.
