You will find this lovely holiday home surprisingly hidden in a quiet street of the inner city of Bruges.
It is surrounded by a large walled garden (550 m2)with a spacious terrace, trees, a tea house, pond and a lawn. In this green oasis where it is good to stay with family and friends, you will be taken over by a true holiday feeling. The typical house is fully renovated and is equipped with all comforts. There are three large and two small bedrooms, with fabulous beds, real feather duvets, one south facing bathroom and two modern bathrooms with walk-in showers in Belgian blue stone and an infrared sauna. The cedar wood orangery is ideal for lazy lunches with views on the beautiful landscaped garden. In the garden you will find a nice Jacuzzi to relax and settle down. There is a practical, rural kitchen and a romantic salon with open fire. All these facilities would almost make you forget you are staying in the centre of historical Bruges.
My husband and I live 15 years in Bruges , and we are from West Flanders and Brabant . All this time we were engaged in the operation of small-scale accommodation. Our latest achievement is the creation of the B & B the Corenbloem in Bruges, now run by our son. We focus now on our two vacation homes: one is de Balsemboom. We did everything possible to make it a perfect place to stay in Bruges. The other is in France, in Provence, in Lorgues :
Hilde Lannoy purchased this cottage in 1997
The large house is special because it has a large and sunny garden , an orangery and a teahouse in a separate conservatory.
The house is located in the historic center. You can visit the city on foot. But you have a large sunny garden with space to play , barbecue and enjoy together outside.
Sun in the garden from early morning to 21 h . Three bathrooms, five bedrooms, large conservatory for gathering and meals , large garden , parking for 2/3 cars , space for bikes , jacuzzi , electric sauna. Sleeps 10.
We were so pleased upon our arrival at the house to find that it surpassed our expectations. This really is a large, comfortable, luxurious, stylish and excellently equipped house with a big garden only 10 minutes walk from the centre of Bruges. We comfortably parked two cars and had more than enough space for our party of two families including three young children. There are effectively three reception rooms - all interconnected - which meant the children could play while the adults relaxed or were busy in the kitchen, at the same time as keeping an eye on the young ones. We also made full use of the hot tub and sauna which were the icing on the cake and left us feeling the most relaxed we have been in a long time! It was the perfect base from which to explore Bruges, especially as the time of year meant the weather sometimes forced us back home. Having all that space made it a pleasure to be inside. Thoroughly recommend!
We stayed in this house as an extended family group with children ranging in age from 6 to 17.
It's a wonderful house - full of charm and character. The photos do not do it justice. It's extremely well equipped & the location is superb with a wonderful private garden yet just 5 minutes walk from shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants.
One piece of advice - if you are arriving with a car the access to the parking is quite narrow and tricky to negotiate.
Highly recommended. I hope we will be back.
Four of us spent the holiday weekend in this lovely home near the city center of Bruges. The owners, Hilde and Dirk, were very helpful and accommodating. Dirk had some excellent recommendations for local places to eat and things to see.
The home itself is beautiful, large and extremely comfortable. Even though there were only four of us the home felt cozy. It's set up to accommodate much larger groups and would be a wonderful place to hold a family reunion or vacation. Having so many bedrooms, and especially bathrooms, is a luxury in Europe.
The bed and bath linens were all extremely clean and of good quality. The kitchen is very well equipped and has a large wine refrigerator. There are inside and outside dining tables for ten, as well as a smaller table in the kitchen. There are dishes, glassware and utensils for at least ten people. There is a large outside jacuzzi and an indoor sauna. There's also a large dining table set up out in the greenhouse area. We would love to come back and have a candlelight dinner there sometime. Thank you again for all your help Hilde and Dirk!
We stayed at Balsemboom House as a group of 4 adults & 4 children (3 of which were teenagers). The teenagers stayed in the 2 twin rooms in the attic, which meant we couldn't hear them downstairs
The bathrooms downstairs both have fantastic showers. The only bath is in the en-suite on the 1st floor.
The stairs are quite narrow and the banister a bit wobbly, so not ideal for anyone who struggles with stairs, but the house would be suitable for a person with mobility issues as there is a ground floor bedroom.
The outside space is fabulous, with a large dining table. A few sun loungers would have been appreciated as we had fabulous weather. The hot-tub was great for relaxing after a day sightseeing. But be warned, there are mosquitoes in the summer!
The Tea House was a great space for drying wet swimwear & towels after using the hot-tub. Also, the BBQ was a nice touch & we used it!
Inside the kitchen is very well equipped with plenty of crockery & cutlery. There is also a large fridge in addition to a fridge/freezer. Dirk soon came to our rescue when we couldn't get the oven to work.
We made use of the washing machine and tumble dryer as the bath towels supplied weren't particularly big and needed washing hlaf-way through our weeks stay.
Wi-fi was a nice touch and helped us to plan trips. Parking at the house is very secure and you don't even need a car in Bruges as the centre is only a 5-10 minute walk. We used our cars to visit Brussels & Ghent and also to go to the Del Haize out of town supermarket, which has a bigger choice than the intown store. Much nicer than the Carrefour!
Bruges is very safe and we allowed the teenagers to explore without adult supervision. Saturday morning there is a fantastic market held at 't Zand Square where you can buy various foodstuffs.
A nice place for a night out is Wijnbar Est on Braambergstraat 7 - go on a Sunday when they have live music. Book a table, have a meal and make a night of it!
There are lots of eating places in Bruges, but one of the nicest things we enjoy is buying a portion of chips with mayonnaise in the Markt Square. If you have a head for heights then a trip up the 366 steps of the Belfort is a must - fabulous views over Bruges! The canal boat trips are a good way to see Bruges too.
There is plenty to see and do in Bruges regardless of age. We have visited several times before and it won't be long before we are back. Would definitely recommend the house.
A group of friends from Scotland hired this fantastic facility for 5 days in November 2010. The house and is location is absolutely ideal. We enjoyed ourselves so much we are returning in 2011
Eight of us arrived on motorcycles from Wales, tired and hungry. We were given a warm welcome and quickly shown around. Then down into Brugge for a meal and refreshments (5 to 6 min walk). The location of the house was ideal. We all had a great week the house was lovely and the secure parking for our bikes was excellent. Would recommend it to all.
Bruges is a wonderful place to stay: a beautiful city , historical buildings, beautiful streets and squares , friendly people, cozy cafes and restaurants , quiet, safe and attractive. It is also an ideal base to explore the famous cities to visit in Belgium such as Brussels, Antwerp , Mechelen and Gent , the coast and the Ypres Salient , by train or by car .
