Scott and Martha are very gracious hosts. They are willing to help you in anyway they can. Its a beautiful location. The bay on one side and Lake Ontario on the other. A little challenging if you have little kids but we kept life jackets on when they were outside. Great fishing, rock collecting and the kids loved all the baby turtles. The water level was exceptionally high this year so there wasn’t a beach in the front of our cottage but Scott was working hard every day to get sand in the front of the cottage. Overall we had a very enjoyable time.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The views were fantastic and the cottage was very clean and tidy. Scott and Martha were extremely hospitable, friendly, and helpful!
Martha and I are very happy that you enjoyed your honeymoon at the Swan cottage. You looked so comfortable enjoying a glass of wine sitting by the camp fire the sandy beach on the Bay side of the cottage. Please come back anytime to enjoy our little paradise out here on Crescent Beach!

Wonderful unique vacation
Our stay at Martha and Scott's cottage was very peaceful and relaxing. Water views on the front and back of the cottage can't be beat. We spent a lot of time walking the beach, jet skiing, fishing, swimming, and just sitting on either side of the house enjoying the views and breeze. We enjoyed meeting Martha, Scott, Martha's dad, and son.
There were some young men working on the house next door when we were there but they didn't bother us. They were very polite and helpful young men and answered any questions we had.
If you are looking for a vacation spot that has a lot of commercial entertainment, this is not the place for you. If it would have rained, we would have had to travel quite a ways to anything like that. There are several good restaurants nearby though.
All in all, this was a very relaxing vacation which was just what we were looking for. There are some minor problems with the cottage but nothing that couldn't be overlooked by the beautiful scenery. The cottage and property was also cleaned well. Even my mother in law couldn't complain:)
Thank you, Scott & Martha, for the wine, crackers, and delicious cheese but most of all thank you for sharing your little slice of heaven with us!

Martha and I are very happy that your vacation was a great success! It's nice to just slow down and take in the beautiful surroundings. You're right! No commercial anything out here. Just the water, Eagles, big fish and a great relaxing time.
Hope to see you again next year.

Buyer beware: Do not believe what you see on VRBO. The place is in bad shape.
The Swan Cottage is situated in a lovely place. The views of Lake Ontario and Sodus Bay are excellent. The cool breezes keep it pleasant most of the time. The wind in the cotton wood trees that shade part of the house are soothing, as is the sound of the waves. Watching the many moods of the big lake is fascinating and some of the sunsets were quite spectacular.
The furniture is comfortable and there are adequate lamps for reading in the evening, which can’t always be said from VRBO rentals. The kitchen is adequately furnished with dishes and cooking utensils. There’s a fabulous new frig and the bottled water dispenser is nice since I’m not sure I would like to drink a lot of lake water. There’s a new paved patio on the bay side---thanks to recent storm washouts / see below. Since the owners, Scott and Martha, live only two doors away they can come over quickly to attend to our needs and seemed eager to please. That’s the good news.
On the other hand, the place is in serious disrepair and the photos of the place on the VRBO website don’t match the reality at this time. When we arrived, we were informed that a terrible storm a year and a half ago had damaged the property, so badly that they couldn’t rent it last year. The reclamation is still far from complete. The cottage is surrounded by piles of debris and construction materials. Scott is still repairing the cottage next door, which was also damaged, so all week long we were subjected to the noise of his backhoe moving dirt and hauling barrels of sand off barges to the beaches. And we had to inhale the diesel and gasoline fumes from the big machines when the wind was blowing it our way.
The Sodus Bay side, which shows up in the photos as a sloping sandy beach, is now covered with ugly white plastic sandbags and the sloping beach has been replaced by a wall of rocks covered with equally ugly black plastic. Part of the dock slants so extremely that it is scary to walk on it. The canoe and kayaks were in a filthy pile near the construction debris. We had to remind Scott that they were supposed to be available.
We also learned that the hot tub had recently died but were assured that it would replaced in a few days. The new one never arrived. When Scott and his crew weren’t working on the house next door they were puttering with the old on, but it still wasn't working by the end of our stay. It's not on the deck looking out over Lake Ontarios. It's in the junk piles. The whole place is a mess.
Martha and I apologize for any inconvenience as you may have had while staying at our cottage. Although there was no debris on the property in which you stayed there was building material at the cottage next door which has now been installed and cleaned up. We barged in 200 Ton of sand for the beach next door which was washed away in the flooding 2017. Sorry for the inconvenience. All that work is now finished. The hot tub is up and running. In the very near future all the lake side sliding doors and windows will be replaced by FEMA due to the flood. We are working very hard every day to make all our cottages the newest and best on Sodus Bay.
