Once the municipal building of the mediaeval hilltop village of Montecastelli Pisano, this ancient palace has been recently restored and converted into a comfortable and characteristic holiday home.
The property is situated on the edge of the small village overlooking the famous Torre Sillana in a unique and exceptional beautiful position with breathtaking panoramic views over the Cecina and Elsa valleys, down to the sea and the Chianti hills. Internally it has been carefully renovated maintaining the original features and tastefully furnished in the typical Tuscan style and provided with modern facilities.
Externally, and for the exclusive use of the guests, there is a panoramic garden with furnished gazebo and barbecue for comfortably dining in the open air, and a marvellous, most panoramic swimming pool (6x12 m. x 1,40 m. depth) with jacuzzi (6 m. diameter) available from May to October.
In the village, approx. 100 meters from the house, there is a restaurant /pizzeria/bar with a splendid panoramic terrace where guests be able to savour many local delicacies and specialties; in the same premises is also available a grocery shop selling essential products. We have just returned from a week's holiday at the beautiful Monte Castelli.
The villa itself is comfortable and spacious and is situated in an amazing position overlooking the Chianti hills. The infinity pool and jacuzzi are spectacular and make the climb down the steps to reach them worthwhile! We couldn't wait to return to cool off after a morning of sightseeing in Siena or wine tasting at one of the local wineries.
The owner of the villa is very friendly and cooked a wonderful 8-course meal for us (at a very reasonable cost including wine it is to be recommended!) and it was great to eat local Tuscan cuisine under the grape vines.
We all agreed to return to Monte Castelli very soon and would highly recommend it if you want a taste of the real Italy.
The region is located in the central, western part of the country, north of Rome and south of Genoa. It is bounded by the Apennine Mountains to the North and East, the Apuan Alps on the north west and by the Tyrrhenian Sea on the West. From the Etruscans to the Romans to the Renaissance, Tuscany is possibly the greatest repository of art in the world, from extraordinary paintings and sculpture to frescoes and architectural masterpieces.
Tuscany: a row of cypress trees breaking the blue sky on a rolling hilltop. Olive groves and grapevines marching tidily down the side of a slope. Little medieval hill towns gazing down upon a country that has been carefully cultivated. Florence is the capital of Tuscany. Other important cities are Siena, Pisa, Arezzo, Pistoia, Prato, Lucca, Livorno, Grosseto, Massa Carrara.
