Witham Barn Rental Photos and Description

Converted Barns situated in countryside just outside the historic town of Maldon

Each property has its own unique character with beams, log burning stoves and very comfortable beds.

We provide fluffy towels and quality cotton bedding.

The barns can be rented separately, or jointly to accommodate a family get-together.

The Hay Barn and Barley Barn both sleep 6 people in bedrooms, plus 2 extra guests on sofa beds, making a total of 8 in each barn. In the Hay Barn all bedrooms are en-suite. In the Barley Barn two bedrooms are en-suite and the third bedroom has a bathroom opposite. The Cart Lodge sleeps 4, with one bedroom (en-suite) and a sofa bed. In total between the three properties, 14 guests in bedrooms and 6 guests on sofa beds.

Advertised prices in all barns do not include additional guests sleeping on the sofa beds. Please enquire for rental rates for 3 or 4 people in the Cart Lodge, 7 or 8 people for the Hay and Barley Barn and for 9 or 10 guests in the Shire Stables.

The Shire Stables was completed in January 2015. For those wanting something extra special, this barn is for you.

Each barn has a separate patio area with coal BBQ and there is a large shared front lawn. There is off road parking and additional hard standing parking available.

The nearest railways station in Witham is approximately 6 miles away. Trains run regularly to London Liverpool Street with a journey of of 40 to 45 minutes. The shopping centre at Stratford is accessed on the same train journey.

Suffolk, Kent, Oxford and Cambridge are accessed easily by motorway.

Essex is a largely rural county dotted with pretty villages and beautiful farmland. Essex is steeped in history and there are a great variety of historical sites to visit in the county including Anglo Saxon, Medieval, Roman and Tudor architecture. Essex has one of the longest coastlines of any county in England. Its network of coastal footpaths, rivers and estuaries attract walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers every year.

Getting married at St.Peter's Church in Great Totham? Located just a few hundred yards away, this is an ideal location for guests to stay. Also ideal for guests attending weddings at Braxted Park, Layer Marney Tower, Vaulty Manor. and Prested Hall.

Babies under 1.5 years using a travel cot are not included in the guest numbers.

Bank holiday Mondays are weekend rates. Prices include linen, bedding and towels. Heating is electric central heating and wood burning stove. We provide an initial supply of logs, kindling and fire lighters. Additional large bags of logs and kindling can be bought at cost approx £7 per large bag.

We take a refundable deposit for Hay, Barley and Cart Lodge of £100 on arrival for stays of up to 2 weeks and £200 for stays over 2 weeks to cover breakages or excessive cleaning costs. Bedding, linen, towels, bath mats and tea towels are included in the cost. Damage deposit for The Shire Stables is £500.

Please enquire for rentals for longer than two weeks and for what is included in the rental rate.

PLEASE NOTE: HAY BARN, BARLEY BARN AND CART LODGE - Electricity is payable by meter cards which can be purchased on arrival. Average summer cost - £1.00 to £1.50 per day. Average Winter £7 to £8 per day. There is free wi-fi for emails and internet browsing. No gaming or streaming..

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the remote location, there may be very occasional internet disruption.

We welcome up to two well behaved, medium sized dogs (or cats!) for a small additional charge of £5 each per day to cover cleaning costs.

RENTAL RATES: Should you book more than eight weeks prior to departure you will be asked to provide a deposit of 25% of the total rental. The remaining balance is due eight weeks prior to your stay. Should you book less than eight weeks prior to your stay, you will be required to pay the full payment. CANCELLATION If you wish to cancel you must inform us by e-mail. If cancellation is made the following charges will be levied:• More than 10 weeks prior to stay – 100% refund less administration fee of 5%• More than 8 weeks prior to stay - Loss of deposit• Between 8 weeks to 6 weeks - 50% charge• Between 6 weeks to 5 weeks - 65% charge• Between 5 weeks to 3 weeks - 85% charge• Between 3 weeks to stay date - 100% charge.

Arrival 3pm Departure 10.30am to allow us to clean for the next guests. We can be a little flexible on this times if there is no occupancy prior to, or after your stay. We kindly ask guests to keep the property and all furniture, fittings and effects, in or on the property, in the same state of repair and condition as the commencement of the period, and to leave the property in the same state of cleanliness and general order in which it was found. We will, where possible, accommodate any guest's requests regarding minor accommodation amendments but we cannot guarantee acceptance.

A spacious barn that is fully equipped to a very high standard. The open plan lounge, dining area and kitchen are light and airy. The living area has a huge brick fireplace with a wood burning stove. There are comfortable leather sofas, with seating for 8 people.

A long wooden dining table and seating for 8 (plus a high chair if needed) make this an idea place for a special dining experience. The kitchen is equipped to a high standard and the breakfast bar makes it the hub of the barn.

Upstairs the master bedroom is spacious and has generous wardrobe space and a full length mirror. The en - suite has a bath with shower above. There are two bedrooms on the ground floor have en-suites with showers. One bedroom is a double, the other can be set up as a twin or king size. Sofa bed in lounge.

The back barn doors open out onto a garden, patio and BBQ area overlooking arable farmland. Outdoor seating for 8 and additional sun chairs. There is a coal BBQ and utensils.

We live locally and often went past the barns when walking our dog. We bought them when they were in a poor state and Jason spent five years working most weekends on them, renovating them and saving all of the materials and features that he could to keep the character of the barns. I was responsible for tea making, supply of lunch, cleaning, fetching and carrying....! In fact, it is a real family business with our children helping with the chickens, gardens and occasional cleaning duty. our children into the the lovely homes that they now are. Why Carmel Tate chose Essex

After spending many happy holidays on farms and beautiful houses in France, Ireland and Wales, we wanted to offer high quality accommodation to people who wanted to get away from it all or bring their beloved pets with them to share their holiday, just as we wanted to.

We renovated Jepcrack's over a number of years, working with each barn's unique character and adding luxurious touches to make our guests' stay special.

We opened The Hay Barn to our first guests in October 2011, closely followed by the adjoining Barley Barn in December 2011.

We have just completed The Cart Lodge and are looking forward to welcoming guests to our newest property.

What makes this barn unique

The barns can be rented separately, for 2 people upwards, or you can rent more for a group booking.

Each property has its own character and as the buildings emerged we worked with each one to bring out their unique features and to add special touches to make them interesting, comfortable and homely.

THE SHIRE STABLES was completed in January 2015. Our most luxurious barn, comprising of a hot tub, jacuzzi bath and antique furniture.

THE HAY BARN has a great downstairs area with breakfast bar, ideal for a get together. With a king sized bedroom and two further double bedrooms, all en-suite, it is great for friends or families.

The BARLEY BARN is very much a home from home, with an open plan lounge, kitchen and dining area. The master bedroom is downstairs and has a king sized bed and sofa bed, making it ideal as a family room. The antique French wardrobe and jacuzzi bath en-suite give that touch of luxury. There is another kind sized bedroom upstairs which is spacious and also has an en-suite with bath and shower above. The third bedroom offers flexibility of either a single, twin or king sized bed and also has a bathroom opposite.

THE CART LODGE is a delight. With vaulted ceilings throughout and walnut and marble floors, it has a French, antique theme. There is an antique king sized bed and a sofa bed for two additional guests. Nothing shabby about this; just pure chic. The ideal romantic retreat.

Fantastic barn in quiet and pretty location

We had a fantastic two week stay in the Hay Barn. The barn is very clean and the location is fantastic - the barn backs onto open fields and the English countryside. The location is very quiet and we slept very well. We are planning on staying here again on our next trip to the UK.

Jepcracks Barn was SUPERB, simply the best hol

We had such a relaxing holiday, the barn was immaculate with everything we could ask for in terms of kitchen facilities, bed linen, antique furniture and rustic decor. The owners, Carmel and Jason were so friendly and welcoming, they work so hard at maintaining their barns, and did everything possible to make our stay a memorable one, lovely, genuine people. We have stayed in many holiday homes all over the world, Jepcracks could not be beaten, we would rate 10 stars if we could and would have no hesitation to recommending the barns to friends and family. The local pub the Prince of Wales, has quaint, warm and friendly, served delicious food.

Simply fantastic

This was our 5th/6th stay at this fabulous 'holiday home'. The accommodation is superb with everything that you will need during your stay. The location is perfect with numerous things to do/see (including beaches/the coast) within a short drive. It is incredibly quiet and peaceful. The owners, Carmal and Jason, are unbelievably helpful and always available if required. Can't wait till we stay again.

Perfect family holiday house.

The Hay barn was a perfect holiday house for us. We had young children with us and they loved having the swing set and slide to play on, and they really enjoyed checking if the chickens had layed any eggs. The barn was very clean and tidy, and we had everything we needed. The owners, and the neighbours across the road were always on hand if we needed anything. I would highly recommend this property, and we will hopefully be back in the future.

Fantastic!

We couldn't have been happier. Lovely property, spacious, light and well decorated. Very pleasant and quiet rural location but easy driving access to the local amenities. The owners were most welcoming and helpful throughout. Going again later this year. Can't say fairer than that.

There are two country pubs in the village, which you can walk to in about 10 or 15 minutes, or use a local taxi firm for the short journey. One of the pub's is a gastro pub and also has a fine dining restaurant. In nearby village there are numerous country pubs serving great home made style food. Many pubs serve real ales. Maldon has numerous cafes, bistros, restaurants and takeaways.

Heybridge Basin is very close and is a lovely place to vist. Take a walk along the estuary; admire the boats and barges along the river and have breakfast or lunch at Tiptree Jam Tea Rooms or one of the two pubs. For children there are hours of fun to be had crabbing and fishing.

The nearby historic town of Maldon has interesting shops, boutiques, cafe's and restaurants. The Promenade Park and marina are well worth a visit. For children the water park, play roller rink, bowling alley, swimming pool with slides and indoor play centre will provide hours of fun.

Further afield, other attractions include Colchester Zoo, Layer Marney Tower, Colchester Castle, Cressing Temple, Dedham Vale, Braintree outlet shopping centre, Adventure Island and the Sea Life Centre.

Beaches at Frinton-on Sea and Southwold are an easy journey.

London, Westfield Shopping Centre and the Excel Centre are an easy commute by train. Witham train station (approx 5 miles away) has regular trains to London Liverpool Street Station in a journey time of 40 to 45 minutes.
