About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms+Sleeping Loft, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 7)

Enjoy one of the best beaches on Lake Michigan - summer or fall!

Located right on the shore of Lake Michigan in Good Hart Michigan, Blue Fish is available for your vacation pleasure. This is a comfortable two bedroom, one and a half bath cottage with a three twin bed sleeping loft, plus a walk-out, lakeview game room. It is available weekly from June through October.

Besides the beach, there are loads of things to do. Golf (including mini-golf) is available for duffers of all abilities. You can play the fantastic Ross or Heather courses at Boyne Highlands or just a round of 'barnyard' golf with the kids. The ferries to famous Mackinac Island are about 30 minutes away. Kayaks and bikes are available for rent from local vendors. Fishing trips can be arranged as well. There are a wealth of activities and nature preserves available for whatever catches your fancy!

If you like to cook, the kitchen is well stocked with pots, utensils and cookbooks. There are excellent farm markets a few miles from Blue Fish, and, of course, there are great shops and restaurants nearby in Harbor Springs and Petoskey.

Blue Fish is available on a WEEKLY basis, from Saturday to Saturday. Blue Fish is located on approximately 160 feet of sandy beach. Facing west, it offers beautiful views of Lake Michigan, Beaver Island and glorious sunsets with an occasional 'green flash'. There are great wildlife and birds....deer, fox, eagles, ospreys, loons, pileated woodpeckers, etc. Bring your binoculars and watch the freighters and boats sail by.

The main living area has a vaulted ceiling with a two-story wall of windows facing Lake Michigan. There is a wood-burning fireplace flanked by comfortable furnishings that include a couch, love seat, two upholstered swivel chairs (the better to watch the sunsets), as well as occasional tables and generous lighting. A reversible direction ceiling fan provides great ventilation. Portable fans are also provided. A baby gate is in the cottage if you want to keep small children (or dogs!) on the main deck or from the lower level stairs.

For entertainment, there is a 42' color TV with a DVD player and a satellite connection, as well as a personal stereo unit with CD player. You can play your iPod thru the speaker system too. There is high-speed, wireless internet connection in the cottage.

The dining table seats eight and is at the end of the main living area.

One bedroom has a king-size bed. The closet provides hanging space and a wire multi-drawer storage unit.

The second bedroom has two twin beds (can be converted to one king size upon request).. The closet provides hanging space and a wire multi-drawer storage unit.

The sleeping loft overlooks the main living area and has three twin beds (two can be converted to one king size upon request). There is hanging space for clothes and a multi-drawer wire rack and dresser. The loft is a great play area for children or a quiet reading spot with wonderful lake views.

Each of the sleeping areas include pillows, blankets and bedspreads for your comfort (and sweet dreams).

The kitchen has an electric four-burner range/oven unit, double sink, full-size refrigerator with freezer compartment, microwave, toaster and coffeemaker. It is fully equipped with dishes, eating utensils, spices and cooking equipment. It has a newly installed quartz countertop.

The main bathroom has one sink, toilet and tub/shower.

A hairdryer is provided. A half-bath is off the game room in the lower level.

The lower level (with views of the beach) is set up as a game room. There is a Foosball table, a game table with four chairs (good for card or board games or working jig-saw puzzles-all provided), a comfy couch and a satellite color television with a built-in VCR player.

Double doors lead to a wooden deck at ground level that has a Weber charcoal barbecue and outdoor chairs and table.

The main entrance door is located on the second level. There is a very large deck with a table and four chairs for dining al fresco; that wraps around the front of the cottage for beautiful views of the beach with extra outdoor seating.

Stairs lead from the walkout lower level deck to the 160 foot sandy beach. The cottage is on what many think is the best stretch of beach in the greater Good Hart area. Great for rock hounds!

The cottage has books, magazines and lots of local informational pamphlets for your relaxation or inspiration. We've been collecting original artwork to enhance the cottage atmosphere. There are some great resources for that in Good Hart, Cross Village, Harbor Springs and Petosky. We've also supplied the cottage with some interesting local Native American history about Middle Village (right on Lamkin Road).

Bring your own sheets, towels, paper supplies and groceries and get ready for a great vacation!

Three out of five stars

  • 3 of 5

The amazing views of Lake Michigan and the beautiful beach were almost enough to make up for the musty smell of the cottage. We arrived on a rainy day, so we're hoping the musty smell we were overwhelmed with when we opened the doors would fade with the storm, but no such luck. The cottage is really quaint and the location is breathtaking, but the smell was a disappointment to say the least. We went through three cans of Febreeze and had every window open trying to get some fresh air in the cottage. There were cans of Damp Rid throughout the cottage, so we figured it must be a recurring issue. When we finally had enough of the smell, we did contact the owner with our concern, and were pleased that he responded promptly by sending his cleaning lady over with new containers of Damp Rid. Within two days, the smell had decreased, but never completely went away. It would've been so nice to have the fresh cans of Damp Rid in the cottage before we arrived so we didn't have to try to ignore the mustiness...and, wash ALL of our clothing/bedding/etc in a specially purchased odor removing laundry soap when we arrived home. We have lots of experience with lake houses/cottages and understand the moisture issues, but they need to address the mustiness of this place. All that being said, the beach is super. Can't beat Northern Michigan. Lots of nice little towns to explore, Legs Inn is a memorable experience, and the lake is amazing.

Ideal Location to Unwind and Relax

  • 5 of 5

Terrific "Blue Fish cottage" has all the right furnishings for a very wonderful and relaxing stay. Great beach with lots of activities including swimming, body surfing with the waves, to finding infamous Petoskey stones and long walks enjoying sights and sounds. Lots of bald and golden eagle sightings during the day and remarkable golf courses within a reasonable distance. The moon's reflection off Lake Michigan along with the vast stars resulted in amazing night photography. Comfortable beds, large living area and small but fantastic kitchen with fully stocked wares. Local general store has delicious fresh-baked pies, breads and cool merchandise. Appreciate the opportunity the owners provided. Definitively returning next summer!

Perfect Beach House for a Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

What a great beach house! Very comfortable & well furnished & absolutely breath-taking views of Lake Michigan. This is the best place to take walks on the beach, view beautiful sunsets & star watch. It is located close to Mackinaw Island, Harbor Springs, Petoskey and it's also close enough to take a day trip to many beautiful places in the Upper Peninsula. We will stay here again!

Best Place to Recharge your Battery

  • 5 of 5

Landing at Blue Fish we breathed a sigh of relief! The seclusion was a welcome sight to the hustle and bustle of our usual every day life. The view of Lake Michigan is just breathtaking! The home is supremely well-equipped for eating in (our preferance), and any other supplies one might need were easily found (Windex to get those dog nose prints off the car windshield :D)

Notable was the extreme cleanliness of the home. One would never know a previous guest had been in residence.

The weather change to blustery cold didn't even affect us. There were myriad of games to play, books to read, and for the outdoor lover two nice sized nature preserves nearby that the dogs had a ball running through. The Good Hart Nature Preserve was VERY well marked and looks to cater to x-country skiers.

And who would miss visiting the icon of the Tunnel of Trees: Legs Inn? It was a short 15 minute drive from Blue Fish and filled us with some of the best Polish food around - even a vegetarian plate for those so inclined.

Days trips to Mackinac Island, Petoskey, Harbor Springs and Charlevoix are all easily in reach and great fun.

If you're looking for a week to chill out, don't miss Blue Fish!!

Peaceful Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Spent the week soaking up the amazing views... from the sunsets over Lake MI to the stars at night. The beach was lovely but the rocks make it difficult for swimming. We did have a lot of fun searching through the rocks for petoskey stones and any other pretty stone that caught our eye. Really enjoyed the serenity that Bluefish offers.

Great Vacation, Great Stay

  • 5 of 5

My family of 5 and parents just returned to Southern Indiana (and heat and humidity!) after a wonderful week at Bluefish. Originally we had planned to take 3 or 4 day trips while in the area, but in the end, decided our time was better spent relaxing on the beach and enjoying the amenities the home had to offer. Our three kids (ages 6, 6 & 9) loved sleeping in the loft and thoroughly enjoyed the game room in the basement. The beach was everyone's favorite part. We would highly recommend this vacation home rental to anyone considering a visit to this beautiful part of the world.
