A fabulous recently renovated apartment in le Majestic, one of Chamonix's most iconic buildings on the northern edge of the town centre. Formerly the Grand Hotel Majestic, the building has retained its character inside and out with manicured gardens, impressive architecture, high ceilings and wide corridors.

The apartment is on the top (7th) floor with a dual aspect, offering wonderful views to Brevent, over the town and towards le Tour. It has been fully refurbished in a contemporary style whilst retaining an element of the original character with timber beams and purlins.

The space comprises an open plan living and dining area with a fitted kitchen, 2 double bedrooms (1 with ensuite shower), 1 bunk-bed room, main bathroom, entrance hallway and utility room. There is a boot room and ski locker at basement level, plus external parking.

Le Majestic is just to the north of the town centre, no more than 150 metres by foot from the main shopping street, Rue du Docteur Paccard.

The nearest supermarket is Casino in the town centre (200 metres), with the main Super U supermarket 400 metres away. There are many bars and restaurants in the same area, notably la Calèche, The Pub, l'Atmosphère, Panier aux Quatre Saisons and several restaurants along Avenue de l'Aiguille du Midi.

For access to the slopes, the main lift to Brévent is 350 metres on foot, or there is a bus stop just by the building giving access to the other ski areas.

Skiing and snowboarding: Chamonix is one of the world's most famous ski areas, having hosted the first Winter Olympics in 1924. Skiers and snowboarders of all levels are well-served in a variety of differing areas around Chamonix, including Brevent, Flegere, the famous Grands Montets and Domaine du Balme. The Mont Blanc pass also covers nearby areas including Les Houches, St Gervais, Megeve, Courmayeur and Les Contamines, all within an easy drive. Slightly further afield, but within an hour's drive are Verbier, La Thuile, Flaine and Les Carroz. Despite its reputation as an area for experts only, there are plenty of green, blue and red runs to satisfy beginners and intermediates alike. For the more experienced, Chamonix has miles and miles of adventurous off-piste, including the famous Vallee Blanche, an 18km experience from the Aiguille du Midi down to the town.

Summer and the rest of the year: With the draw of Europe's premier natural attraction, Mont Blanc, Chamonix never sleeps. Whether it's simply to soak up the stunning scenery or get the adrenaline pumping, there is plenty for everybody to do all year round. There are a wide variety of marked trails for hiking and trekking; well-maintained bolted routes for rock-climbing; limitless mountaineering opportunities including Mont Blanc itself; an ever-expanding network of mountain bike trails; some of the most consistent thermals for superb paragliding; raging white water rapids for rafting and hydro speeding; canoeing and abseiling down the spectacular valley gorges; golf at the Trent Jones Sr designed 18 hole course in Chamonix, as well as many other top quality courses nearby; a sports centre with an indoor and outdoor 50m swimming pool and a large grassed sunbathing area, water slides, numerous tennis courts, gym, spa, jacuzzi,. The list goes on!

Great apartment in a great location

A brilliant apartment with amazing views of the Brevent and up the Chamonix valley. The building has a great location and it is easy to walk into the centre of town without even crossing a road - great for the morning bakery run!

The apartment has everything you need and is easy to recommend.

We are a family of 4 and there was plenty of space for 2 adults and 2 teenagers.

Mountain Base staff were really friendly and helpful.

We'd love to return to Chamonix and see it in the winter and experience the snow - we'd definitely try to stay here again.

A perfect week in a very confortable apartment

Not far from the center, quiet neighbourhood, the apartment is very well equipped : modern style, big sofa, evething you need for cooking, very confortable beds, and a beautiful view through the windows. Seventh floors of the historical and iconic ex palace Majestic : you will enjoy! My 3 teenagers, my husband and I have spent a sweet week...

Absolutely brilliant!

This is a brilliant apartment. The Majestic itself as it says on the website is an iconic building in Chamonix - you can see it pretty much anywhere in the valley, and whilst there is an air of faded glamour about the public areas of the building, the contemporary refurbishment of the apartment is superb. Quality bedding, really well equipped (3 different coffee makers) and very comfortable.

The views are great: watching the sun come up on the Brevent from the masterbedroom or looking out of the lounge windows at Les Drus and the Aiguille Verte. You can't see the Midi, but you cant have everything.

The apartment is really comfortable and roomy with plenty of character.

Mountain Base were incredibly efficient and welcoming on arrival and provided discount vouchers and free bus tickets. The Jekyll and Hyde is definitely worth a visit - don't be put off by the English pub idea.

There's so much to do in Cham: we walked on the Midi Plan, Aiguille Rouge and just up the valley. The luge run over beyond the Montenvers station is great for kids. Mountain biking was great, we used the little shop in the square by the Midi cable car - quality Ragley and Nukeproof bikes.

Overall we couldn't recommend this enough.

Travelling around the Chamonix Valley

Although a car provides additional flexibility, Chamonix has a regular free in-valley bus service. Guests with either a “carte d’hote” or a ski pass can use the buses to move around the valley from Les Houches to Le Tour with stops at all the lift stations. There are also shuttle buses called “les Mulets” which are free and circulate the centre of town.

Getting to Chamonix by car

From France: accessible directly via the Autoroute Blanche (A40), which connects to the European motorway network.

Geneva Airport is approx 100km from Chamonix. Cost in tolls is about €6 for a normal car, all major credit cards are accepted 24/7. Don’t get money from the airport – Swiss Francs are not acceptable!

From Switzerland: Motorway to Martigny, then Col de la Forclaz, Col des Montets. Martigny is approximately 50km from Chamonix.

From Italy: Motorway to the Mont-Blanc tunnel near Courmayeur. Chamonix is 15km from the Italian border via Mont-Blanc Tunnel.

By Train

There is a SNCF railway station in Chamonix. It is serviced by the TER regional train. There are TGV high-speed mainline train connections from St Gervais-le Fayet railway station, just 20km away.

The Mont Blanc Express: This SNCF railway line serves all villages from St Gervais-le Fayet to Martigny (Switzerland) via Servoz, Les Houches, Chamonix, Argentière and Vallorcine.

By Bus/Mini Bus

There are coach services through SAT who provides daily connections with Geneva and Italy.

There are many transfer companies in Chamonix who run mini buses to and from Airports. You can either book a private or a shared transfer.
