Bella Casa Grea
Finding Casa Grea was a wonderful gift all around for my family. The very friendly owner, Gigi Grea, was prompt in all our communications and a great local resource upon our arrival. The spacious ground floor apartment was very well equipped from kitchen, to rooms, bath and cleaning supplies- it did not lack anything. Some basic foods, such as oil and vinegar, spices, coffee, tea were there to greet us along with two delicious bottles from Gigi's own family vineyard. The place was very clean and comfortable. I believe this year the upstairs apartment will be available as well. Every morning we enjoyed our long breakfasts in the garden, under the beautiful fig tree, infused by the scents of a huge thriving rosemary bush.
The beautiful area has much to explore... vineyards, beautiful old towns and villages, spas and more, be sure to go to the Friday market in Nizza di Monferrato.... Besides fabulous wines, Piedmont is known for its abundant Hazelnuts and Truffle mushrooms which is reflected in the fabulous cuisine of the region. Do make a dinner reservation at Trattoria al Pozzo, a local gem and favorite of Paolo Conte! It is within walking distance of Casa Grea (20min).
We often went for walks around hilly Cortigilione and would usually come home with pockets filled with hazelnuts that had dropped from trees lining the roads...friendly farmers would encourage us to pick them up!
Cortiglione itself is a very quiet and somewhat sleepy village, perfect for a relaxing stay- the church bells above Casa Grea ring every 15 minutes, an old time keeper we happened to appreciate very much. The car port is shaded by a roof of grape vines, and the friendly neighbor was very generous with her delicious tomatoes and other veggies from her garden. Brush up on your Italian, as most villagers do not speak english (Gigi is very fluent in english!)
One attraction to point out in Cortiglione is "La Fabricca", a former Fiat factory which has become a cultural gem for the movement art of Eurythmy, and which offers summer courses and performances. The owner/director Gia Van den Akker lives in a neighboring village where she and her husband own a beautiful organic vinyard (Azienda Agricola Incisiana) open for tours and wine tastings!
Be sure to place your reservation for Casa Grea soon- you will not regret it!
Thanks to Alexandra and to her family from New York - USA, for such a positive review about our house and area of Monferrato : people, foods, wine and the green countries around Cortiglione.
We are committed to make always pleasant and comfortable the staying of our guests !
A wonderful house
In September 2013 we spent two weeks in this wonderful Casa Grea. It is large, well equipped and nicely furnished. The owner is extremely helpful and a very nice person.
The village is very small but a supermarket is not far away, just 2 km. From the village you can easily reach lots of vineyards. We also recommend visits to Asti, Alba and Aqui Terme. And Il Pozzo in 15 minutes´walk from the house is really a fantastic and genuine Italian restaurant.

zeer prettig verblijf
"Very nice house in a quiet location in Piedmont, close to beautiful places in the wine region. Owner very welcoming in the contact information at 1st per mail. Tips in detail to enjoy the environment. Very nice screens on the windows. The house is fully equipped, complete kitchen equipment, good comfort and plenty of space to enjoy the sun. A decided “recommended” ! "
Thanks to our Dutch guests for their nice comment!
We are very happy they had such a beautiful experience of our country.
Goodbye in Italy !
