The Best Place to Stay on the Georgia Coast
Over the years we've stayed at many places
on the Coast that were much more expensive
and luxurious than MrJack's place. But we enjoyed
ourselves at Mr. Jack's place the most. His
cottage was very clean and furnished with
everything we needed. The view from his cottage
which sits on the very high bluff overlooking
the water and marsh may be the most beautiful
view on the coast. We caught plenty of fish, crabs,
and shrimp from his big dock, saw two deer and
a turkey while strolling his long nature trail on his
fenced and gated property. Mr. Jack's place is the
ultimate in privacy. Mr Jack and his assistant were very friendly and took very good care of us. We
can't wait to return to Mr. Jack's place.
Thank you traveler Mary..
Great spot for fishing!
We had a great time and were able to keep our boat on private dock all weekend. It was perfect for a weekend getaway.
Rent this place at your own risk!
There is a previous review stating similar conditions of this rental that the owner, Jack, claimed were lies and extortion. The review was very accurate!
We arrived on Saturday before Mother’s Day anticipating a nice week to also reflect on the second anniversary of our daughter’s death. The place smelled like dirty socks, dirt in one of the beds, dirty dishes and pans, a lot of mold at the base of the shower, mildewed pillow (which I threw away), dirty refrigerator but most importantly the odor was awful! We bought candles and febreeze to attempt to calm the odor. On Mother’s Day and the afternoon we arrived I cleaned toilets, washed all linens including mattress pads and bedspreads (with soap I brought) and washed all dishes (no DW), flatware and pans. We were unable to use the oven all week; someone had sprayed cleaner in it a long time ago and never wiped it out. I didn’t even bother with the dust. I contacted Jack on Monday to report the conditions and asked for our cleaning fee and deposit back in cash. Of course he ignored it and I also reported with photos to VRBO. On check out day Jack arrived at 10 am to inspect. I had done all dishes, wiped counters, cleaned out frig, stripped all beds and the sheet on the sofa that hid the giant hole in it. We could not vacuum because there was no vacuum cleaner however I wasn’t going to do a perfect job since it was in such bad shape for our arrival. Jack said we did a good job with cleaning. We left and on Monday afterwards Jack refused (through VRBO website) to approve our deposit refund, stating the place was dirty and our gentle dog had damaged I have no idea what! There was nothing to damage with torn up furniture, tile floors and bedroom “carpets” that smelled like dirty socks! I believe he was angry that we pointed out the disgusting things in his cabin.
We’re in the appeals process with VRBO which has so far taken a month with no results. It will depend on the resolution from VRBO as to whether we will use them again after using them for many, many years. I feel confident that VRBO will do the right thing especially since I contacted them with proof two days after our arrival. We will see.
Sorry this is so long but anyone considering this cabin needs to know about the character of this man. Yeah sure, it’s cheap but we’ve certainly learned the old saying “you get what you pay for” is true!! We just want our deposit back and chalk this experience up to “lesson learned”.
Attempted Extortion of Me and VRBO!
VRBO does not check the content of travelers' reviews for lies.
Most of the content of Traveler Melanie's review is a lie, as my many 5 star reviews suggest.
For many years my policy has been to greet travelers upon their arrival, show them my property, and ask them to carefully inspect it for cleanliness. No traveler has ever said my property was unclean unless the traveler was attempting an extortion.
On the third day of her stay, Traveler Melanie told me that she would submit a maliciously false review of her stay at my property unless I paid cash money to her .
I refused to pay but notified VRBO, and the local police of her attempted extortion.
In her review, Traveler Melanie even attempts to extort money from VRBO. As you read, she threatens to never do business with VRBO again unless it gives her money. INCREDIBLE!

Night mare at this cottage
My husband got into an accident. I had to leave early. Slept on the sofa. This place has a massive load of roaches. Roach traps all over the place. The oven was dirty not even clean. The grill was not clean also. Grass was not cut my dog had ticks all over her. Refrigerator dirty, place smell of pure bleach. Floor not mopped floor place-mate was cover with white dog hair. Had to sweep for an hour to get rid of the hair. The dock is a joke. Wood boards a warp nails up rooted 27 step to dock. Same wood damage on the dock. Now that night all the roaches came out. No sealant under door bugs was coming in like they live there. The end table need to be replaced because baby roaches kept evolving. The front entrance the chair covers were dirty. I stayed one night due to my husband accident. Got charged the full price. I even kill some roaches and move furniture so they could see the roaches. I would not recommend this night mare for anyone.
An Angry Lie.
Again, VRBO does not check the content of reviews for lies.
Traveler Barbara's review is mostly a lie. She told me her husband had had an accident and was in an emergency room in a hospital. But she stubbornly refused to tell me its name., even though I told her that I would not give her a refund unless she named it.
Upon her arrival, I greeted her, showed her my property, and asked her to carefully inspect my property for cleanliness. After her through inspection, she told me that she was satisfied with its cleanliness.
Although she had paid to stay at my property for several days, she prematurely checked out the next morning, demanding a full refund. of her booking fee.
When I refused to refund it, she became angry and submitted her maliciously false review.

Super comfy and a no-worries stay with pets!
We spent a wonderful long Easter Week-End here. Comfortable 2 bedrooms, each with their own bathroom (GREAT amenity!). Comfortably vacationed with 2 dogs, our 7 year old grandson and our daughter. Big field to fly kites, wonderful dirt road that circles the property to walk the dogs off leash and close to historical Darien. The house was super comfortable and we had a wonderful, relaxing week-end. Jack was a wonderful host. We look forward to returning this fall!
What a beautiful view of the river and marsh an outstanding sunsets. The owner is very nice and accommodating with your needs.
