About Chuck Black
Biologist in San Diego.
Chuck Black purchased this House in 1995
Why Chuck Black chose Palomar Mountain
Poor old cabin was falling down.... but with incredible view, nestled in big green trees. See the scrapbook of the 2+ years it took to bring back from near-death. Upgraded, but kept as much of the old feel and charm as possible.
What makes this House unique
Clouds and view are always changing. Santa Ana nights after storms, you can see the waves breaking on Catalina Island in the full moon. Moonless nights, you can see the Milky Way even with all the city lights below. Great place to take kids for their first snow.

Wonderful cabin, amazing views
The cabin is very comfortable. 3 bedrooms with AC heating, and a stocked kitchen. The views are incredible and so is the 360 degree deck around the cabin. Definitely a place I would return to. Chuck is clear in his instructions and responsive. A great weekend get away.
Overall it was a very pleasant stay
The property matched the description. views were awesome, and the house has a nice vibe to it.
A possible addition is a dishwasher
Great bird watching
Lovely views, comfy homey cabin. Super relaxing....thank you
It was excellent for their getaway that we had a plan for
The view from the place is beautiful, some cloudiness but when it clears is really nice. We had the opportunity to see wonderful clouds. Overall a good place to get away from everything
Spectacular View from South Slope of Palomar Mt.
Chuck is a fantastic host and his Palomar home is an incredible mountain escape. My wife and I brought our two dogs for a weekend away of hiking, cooking and quiet and this was the perfect place for all of it. Weather was somewhat mixed much of the weekend, but at over 5,000 feet most of the clouds were below us and gave us a different kind of view than we expected, but no less beautiful. The sprawling landscape visible from the deck is worth staying for in any weather. We loved our trip and can’t wait to come back!

Great Mountain Cabin
We have stayed here twice. Both times our team ran the Badwater Salton Sea Race and we stayed in Chuck's cabin post-race. It's a great layout: a bedroom and bath upstairs and two beds/bath downstairs. Additionally, it has a large kitchen, ample dining space, and a relaxing conversation area. Chuck provides virtually all of the amenities you'll need for a great weekend. When our team returns for this race, we'll be sure to stay in Chuck's cabin again. He's a great host.
