About Charlotte Taylor
This was originally a second home retreat, but is now my retirement retreat which is available when I am not there. I live in Charlottesville, Va as well as here. I am a retired journalist, turned business consultant who loves to garden, and likes for people to enjoy my special space and gardens!
Charlotte Taylor purchased this House in 1984
Why Charlotte Taylor chose Washington
My grandparents were farmers and I summered on the farm as a child. That instilled my love of rural life and natural beauty. Its location in Rappahannock county is within a 2 hour radius of DC, Richmond and Charlottesville. Nestled in the foothills of the mountains, the area is a favorite with weekenders who enjoy visiting wineries. antique shops and outdoor activities.
What makes this House unique
Perched on the edge of a foothill, it offers a million dollar view of the valley and distant mountains. There is hiking at the front door, up the mountain. The craftsman style restored home has wood beam ceilings, acres of gardens, and log and stone walls. Only 3 miles from the town of Washington, Va. tourism and hospitality treats abound!!

Beautiful Views and a Lovely Cottage
My sons, dogs, and I so enjoyed our time in Charlotte’s cottage. A very comfortable house, with all the amenities, and a beautiful location. Charlotte’s instructions and information were extremely helpful. We had a lovely time at the cottage and look forward to returning in the future.
Nice area, but needs some love
First, let me say that Charlotte, the owner seems like a very nice lady. She was very easy to communicate with and was helpful in sending us recommendations for activities in the area. As for the cabin, it needs some work. We left after just one night of a planned a four night stay. Despite the place apparently being "deep cleaned" the day before we got there, we found it quite dusty with many cobwebs, most surfaces needed a good scrub and it smelled overwhelmingly of moth balls. In contrast, the view was quite nice and the location is close to Washington, VA, Flint Hill and Sperryville. We just couldn't get comfortable there. I think with some tweaks(new furniture, less moth balls, de-cluttering and a heavy clean), it could be more suitable for guests. Since it was a cabin, we assumed a somewhat more rustic experience, but for the price, we expected a higher quality product than what we found.
Good location for hiking
Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The view was gorgeous and the location was great for hiking in Shenandoah National Park. We grilled steak and enjoyed the view. The cabin had clearly not been recently cleaned. There were bugs every where - dead and alive. It felt more like camping in that respect. It was probably a little over priced for that reason. Charlotte was helpful though, and even left us some eggs in the fridge which were great for breakfast!
Peaceful setting and great views
Charlotte was great to work with and responsive to all emails. The cabin is lovely and the grounds beautiful.
I am so glad you enjoyed your stay! Please come again.
Really sweet cabin
Beautiful countryside. Super sweet space.
Had a great stay, close to the national parks and flint hill.
