New for 2016 - we have replaced the bath for a walk in shower.

Monk's Cottage has recently been renovated to a high standard. Many original features remain/renovated i.e. exposed Oak beams, Inglenook Fireplace, roll-top bath - a nice blend of period & modern with the newly fitted kitchen, refurbished bathroom & wc. Fully insulated Bedroom with stripped wooden floorboards, oak beams, roof lights & a light & airy feel. Other features include underfloor heating, 2 ringed Log Burner. Pretty garden,to the front of the property ideal for el fresco dining or relaxing with a bottle of wine. Guests are welcome to stroll around the grounds of Tudor Cottage - explore the charming cottage, fish spotting at the pondside or a possible bbq.

Charming cottage

The cottage was very charming but there were a few issues that we pointed out to the owner ....unable to regulate the heating as it was on a timer from the property next door , so had to wait in the cold till radiators came on . Deterred from using open fire due to safety issues of the thatched cottage next door . General cleanliness in arrival , fridge and oven dirty . Would have appreciated some milk on arrival , whether fresh or capsules to make a cup of tea , especially people had written in the review book that they had been welcomed with a bottle of wine !!!!!!!! Not us !!!

However , lovely location for exploring beautiful Dorset !!!!

All in all a lovely cottage but felt we , as paying guests, needed to point out the heating situation ... luckily the weather was beautiful outside but we are still only April and the cottage is an old house and gets cold when heating off !!! .

Good luck to the owners in the future .

Disappointing cottage stay

Property is indeed quaint but heating, hot water and cleanliness are problems. The under floor heating, as mentioned in Amenities, does not work, on-demand hot water system is inconsistent and many spider webs that have been there for awhile. The owners were nice and came over to resolve the hot water issue. It would have been helpful to know the heating radiators were on preset timers that came on for a few hours in the evening and then a few hours in the morning. When they were cold when we woke up in the morning and the cottage was quite cold, we assumed our heating system was malfunctioning. Even after heating for a few hours, it was generally chilly in the cottage. I don't believe we would stay there again.

Lovely sanctuary in an undiscovered part of the English Countryside

We had the most relaxing and recharging midweek stay and our 9 year old son joined us for the weekend...all we now hear is "when are we going back to Monk's Cottage". We recommend this cottage to anyone that loves the peace and quiet and wants to explore the abundance of magical wildlife ( deer) and footpaths all around. The owners are very friendly and helpful and suggested an Ordinance Survey map in order to make the most of the area...this was a very good suggestion. We will be back!

Peaceful place to stay in a beautiful part of the country.

We had a lovely break with our dogs and walked miles in the beautiful countryside managing to pass through parts of Wiltshire, Dorset and Hampshire. Loved the period charm of Monk's cottage and the extra little touches which made it feel so homely and welcoming. The underfloor heating made the cottage really cozy.

Enjoyed our stay cottage needs a bit of cleaning and could do with nicer towels

Lovely area to stay and peaceful.but cottages needs a bit of tender loving care and would be made a lot nicer to the eye.even though it didn't spoil our stay we could see the potential for improvement.

Lovely but could smell damp

Our first impressions was not good as when we opened door could smell damp and can see on walls as black in places ,once we got wood burner going it was cosy ,it could do with a good clean dust cobwebs etc ,our second night was not good as my partner fell down stairs which could have been prevented if there was hand rail we spent morning in a/e he has severe bruising of the ribs ,it could be lovely cottage if they did little bit work to inside

Owner's Response: Following their stay, they initially thanked us by e-mail and only advised of the alleged incident a few days after that. We asked them to complete an incident form so we could establish the facts and investigate, but they declined. We have since inspected the stairs and there are no faults, they are 4 years old and built to current building regulations and have a hand rail, so we are unable to establish the cause. We clean the cottage thoroughly following each visit, there was a week between visits which may explain the damp smell and one or two cobwebs. We have aired it thoroughly since and touched up the black spots on the cob wall lime wash. We will ensure we check more thoroughly following vacant periods between bookings.

Monks Cottage - is a 17th Century Grade 2 listed detached cottage with period features including inglenook fireplace & exposed beams. Situated in the heart of a green belt that is Cranborne Chase AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). A diverse landscape offering areas of rolling chalk grassland, ancient woodlands, downland hillsides and chalk river valleys each with a distinct and recognisable character. Ideally located for cycling, rambling, picnicing & outdoor pursuits. Nearby places of interest include Stonehenge, Salisbury, Shaftesbury, Blandford Forum, The New Forest, Wimborne Minster, Bournemouth, Poole, Swanage, Various National Trust Properties & Gardens, Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, Shell bay Beach & Studland Beach.

East Woodyates has history going back to the Stone age where Tumuli can be found and there is evidence of a Roman road. More recently East Woodyates was used as a staging post to inform the victory at Nelsons battle of Trafalgar, known as the Trafalgar way.
