About Guy Viccars
We are a couple that originated from Cornwall, where we both grew up in the holiday industry. After careers in the marine industry, super-yachts and economic regeneration we have found our little piece of paradise here in Lagrasse. After a 5 year and 600 ton renovation, the secrets of the property have been revealed, providing some of the most amazing architecture, sculptures and paintings from the Cathar period. Supplying plenty of things to see and talk about over a cold glass.
Guy Viccars purchased this Apartment in 2004
Why Guy Viccars chose Lagrasse
The house is nearly a 1000 years old. It has a unique past and ongoing story that seems to build with every room you walk into.
What makes this Apartment unique
To much to tell so we will wet your whistle. Sculptures of the chief knight for the abbey of Lagrasse ( the true location of the Cathar trial). Painting’s of the battles dating back to the 13th century. The first 26 paintings have been restored with some on display at the village 'Maison de Patrimone.' 15 arches with the last 13th century arch finally put in situ in the early part of 2014 completing a loving renovation of an immensely historic house. Sculptures dotted throughout the property. Why not come and see for yourself and join us for one of our legendary BBQs.

We booked this at the last minute and it was perfect. Lagrasse is a beautiful little village with numerous walks on the doorstep, as well as some very nice restaurants and bars. The accommodation was also perfect and Guy and Claire were very helpful and had lots of excellent suggestions in terms of places to visit and eat. Would definitely recommend to others and may well return to see the rest of what the area has to offer.
Fantastic holiday in Lagrasse..loved it!
Beautiful accommodation, stunning gardens, lovely pool, great hosts, home from home! Our third time here, and we have booked again for next year. Guy and Claire are fabulous hosts, the gites are first class. We have stayed in The Garden Studio and The Pool View Studio, and our friends stayed in The Terrace Apartment. All of the accommodation is of a very high standard, with great showers, and excellent kitchen facilities. It was amazing to watch a lightning storm in the evening through the huge picture window from the Pool View Studio then to sit out have breakfast the next morning on the balcony, alongside the jasmine plants. The garden is superb, a very relaxing space. It is wonderful to have a communal space to meet fellow guests. Guy and Claire hosted BBQs while we were there; these were great evenings! The accommodation is ideally placed to enjoy the beautiful area of Lagrasse. Just around the corner is the village square, with Saturday market. And restaurants in the main street. A riverside tapas bar, with views across to the Abbey. Walks along the river and past the allotments. Nearby are the attractions of Abbe Fontfroide, with a fantastic restaurant and lovely gardens. And the beaches, all within an easy drive. All in all, a great holiday!
Thank you for a fantastic comprehensive review. It was lovely to see you both again and catch up in the garden with a few glasses of the local vino at the BBQs - always great relaxing evenings. Really glad that you enjoy the surrounds of the garden, Lagrasse village which as you say so has so much to offer and the wider area. Looking forward to seeing you both again next year.

Holidays in Lagrasse offers everything we want in a holiday, which is why we keep returning to the little gem. Nothing is too much trouble for the owners. The accommodation is immaculate and extremely well equipped, which can’t be easy in such an old building with so much of its past preserved. The village itself is a dream for pottering , eating etc, and there’s no shortage of activity for all tastes within easy reach.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review and returning to our little piece of paradise. It is always good to catch up and get to meet other members of your family. You know we are a great location to rent all the gites and have one big family holiday! We wish you all the best and hope to see you both next year.

Magical place, perfect hosts
We rented the Pool View apartment. It was light and airy, and kept delightfully cool during the heat of the day. Lovingly converted, it was very comfortable and equipped with lots of extras and everything we needed for our stay. Claire and Guy went out of their way to make us welcome and comfortable and couldn't have been better hosts. Lagrasse is a picture postcard village, with an excellent Boulangerie and many lovely places to visit within easy driving distance. The surrounding scenery is stunning. We would whole heartedly recommend this property.
Many thanks for writing a lovely review, it is very much appreciated. It was lovely to meet you both. We are so glad that you enjoyed staying in the Studio and enjoyed the village and surrounding area. It is a fab location and as you say not far from the lovely places we recommend. We hope to welcome you in the future.
With our best wishes

So good we rebooked before we left!!
Perfect holiday accommodation. The studio is immaculately clean, really comfortable and well equipped and it was lovely to have our own little balcony. Claire and Guy are the perfect hosts and cannot do enough to help you. It was lovely to sit in the garden and chat with the other guests. Didn’t want to leave to come home! Lagrasse is a beautiful, little town and we enjoyed walking to restaurants and shops. We are absolutely going back!
Many thanks for the lovely review. It was lovely to meet you both and chat in the garden. Glad that you enjoyed your stay in the Studio. It is lovely with its own private terrace and views over the garden and across to the hills. Looking forward to welcoming you back next year. It will whizz by!

A welcome return to one of our favourite places
Our second visit to Guy and Claire’s wonderful property - it was lovely to see how things have moved on since we were here in 2015. Last time we stayed in the Garden Studio, this time in the Pool View Studio - both were extremely comfortable and well equipped and we would happily return to either again. Everything was spotlessly clean, and we really appreciated the welcome bottle of wine and the offer to book a table at Le 1900 restaurant/bar just across the road (great meal and Cyril Codina’s wine - also worth visiting the shop further down the road and sampling the local vinegars - good English spoken!). Lagrasse is a beautiful village with plenty of good eating places; a fascinating history (including the property itself, which has revealed more secrets since we were last there); beautiful countryside around and many interesting cultural events. We were there for a long weekend to see some of the free En Blanc et Noir piano festival, which we discovered by accident last time. This features some incredible young musicians performing in the old market place - a really special atmosphere in an idyllic setting. Guy and Claire go out of their way to make sure their guests feel at home and have everything they need during their stay. The fact that they are so involved with village life means they can give very good advice on what to do and see, and they work hard to make sure that the property is a delight to return to at the end of the day. We hope to be back!
Thank you so much for a fantastic review. It was lovely to see you both again and great to hear that you enjoyed your stay in the Pool View Studio. We are so very fortunate to have a village that has so much to offer from restaurants, artisan shops to the festivals that are held. The En Blanc et Noir piano festival was fantastic, hotly followed by the music festival and then the Royal Ballet of London performing in Lagrasse. Unbelievable and it is only the end of July! We wish you both well and hope to welcome you back.

With consistent temperatures in the mid to late 20's from May to September this part of Southern France has something to offer everyone, with its colourful landscape which changes dramatically through the seasons.
Lagrasse is situated just 30 minutes drive from Carcassonne and 40 minutes from Narbonne. Both these wonderful cities are steeped in history with many beautiful and interesting places to explore. Lagrasse has something for everyone - bars, restaurants, local artisan shops, local supermarkets and a boulangerie to name but a few. In the summer 'brocantes' are held where you will pick up all sorts of wonderful and quirky artifacts. There is a market every Saturday in the village square where fresh regional produce can be sampled and purchased. Throughout the year you will find many events are held including live bands and classical concerts such as En Blanc et Noir. During July an internationally renowned music festival is held that engulfs the entire village. There are of course fireworks and live music to celebrate Bastille Day on July the 14th and in August there is the ‘Banquet du Livres’ situated within the old stone walls of the medieval banqueting hall. All these lively and fun things will ensure a typically French atmosphere is found and most definitely enjoyed!
A two minute stroll up the main street will bring you to the tennis courts & the football & boules pitches. Sailing & windsurfing can be found 30 minutes drive away, so there is also something to occupy the more sporty! Skiing is approximately 2 hours away. For those wanting a truly relaxing French village experience there is the pretty beach on the river Orbieu which is only a stone's throw away through the cobbled streets. Superb fishing is also found on this river & with the Canal de Midi close by, tranquil boat trips are a must. Wonderful walks can be found in and around the village which can be tailored to suit individual needs. So whether you are wanting an invigorating hike high up in the hills or a gentle stroll along the river bank this region walking will suit all. Cycling is a fun way to explore the cobbled streets of the village and the surrounding areas we have bikes available to use. The Tour de France passes nearby each year and the tree lined roads are filled with spectators who travel from around the globe to cheer the cyclists on their way! Within easy driving distance you will also find a myriad of Cathar castles and ruins to explore.
The beautiful beaches of Leucate, Gruissan and La Franqui are located approximately 35 minutes drive away and offer all you would expect from French seaside towns. Port Leucate and its weather conditions are perfect for wind surfing, bringing keen surfers from all over Europe to hop on their boards here! There are 2 fun Aqua parks located within an hour of the house and a pirate theme park in Gruissan. In Carcassonne and Leucate there are the O2 Aventura Parcs where older children and adults can test their climbing skills - and their head for heights - in the tree top adventure park. In Sigean there is an African Safari Park which plays host - to amongst other things - elephants, lions and rhinos.
