About Branwen Bell
We are a couple in our fifties who decided to go into the holiday cottage business when our daughters left home. After the success of our other property, Ffermdy Bach we decided to renovate our outbuilding which we started in 2017. We have finished this year (2018) and look forward to welcoming guests.
Branwen Bell purchased this Cottage in 1996
Why Branwen Bell chose Porthmadog
The location is what sets this property apart. If you love to walk down to the beach in 5 minutes and enjoy the beauty of Wales you'll love Hen Gegin. It's the combination of sea and mountains that makes our area so special, with so much to explore and enjoy.
What makes this Cottage unique
Hen Gegin is the original out kitchen to the main Farmhouse and the property was once lived in by Dafydd y Garreg Wen (1711-1741) a renowned Welsh composer and harpist. The beautiful coastal farmland was sold in the 1960's.

Lovely Cosy Cottage
Enjoyed a lovely week's stay in this cosy, quirky cottage. Ideal for romantic getaway. Cottage is cosy, but has all you need! Great location; short walk through caravan park and along coastal path to the village with local beaches/ coves on the way. Good base for exploring Snowdonia or the peninsula .
Owners very welcoming and friendly.
A sunken little gem
Lovely renovated cottage with everything you need to have an enjoyable stay. Great location for coastal walks and easy scenic drive to most places on the peninsula. Weather can be unpredictable but the cottage has a fab log burner, underfloor heating and a wall heater. In the bathroom there is a heated towel rail and wonderful double shower. All the accessories and furnishing are to a high standard with added bonus of a hairdryer which is not listed on the inventory. Nice raised outdoor seating area where you can watch the sun set with parking outside the cottage. The Welsh cakes, milk, tea and coffee were welcomed on arrival. Although there is WiFi this was a little intermittent but not a big issue as we were only ever there in the evenings having spent most days walking and exploring. There is so much to do you are almost spoilt for choice. Owner is very welcoming and on hand if anything is needed. Would definitely recommend if you are couple who like staying in different types of accommodation.
Just right for two people. A comfortable, well appointed base for exploring the Lleyn peninsular. Only 200 yards off the coastal path, so straight forward walking to Borth y Gest and Porthmadog is only 35 minutes away.
Perfect in every way
From the minute we arrived we had the perfect holiday (maybe the weather could have been better 😀) It is in the ideal location to visit all the places we wanted to go to although we will be going back as many more to see. The cottage was spotless and It was lovely of Branden to leave tea/coffee/ milk and welsh cakes which were all most welcome after our long drive. The beach in walking distance is lovely and secluded, we went there at the end of our days out and sat there enjoying the late afternoon sun. We will definitely be returning.
Close to the beaches
So nice that this little cottage is on walking distace from the beaches.
A lovely place to stay
We really enjoyed our stay in this little cottage. The area is a great one to explore and Branwen and Paul were perfect hosts.
