Wonderful group vacation house

  • 5 of 5

I was lucky enough to have the house for 2 weeks with family and friends coming and going as schedules permitted. This was the perfect set up for us. Plenty of room when everyone was in the shared spaces, but the bedrooms are virtually sound proofed if someone went for a nap.

The town and the house are very remote so a car is a must, nervous drivers may have some anxiety on the narrow winding roads. We had Sidonie make several meals so we could pop them in the oven or reheat whenever we wanted, each was wonderful. We also had Chef Ronald prepare a five course meal with wine for 10, this was an exquisite experience and the first thing I talk about when people ask about the trip. Best birthday ever!

The owner and property manager were both lovely and responsive.

Tranquil Stay Near Bonnieux

  • 5 of 5

The volume of the rooms is excellent. We were only 6 people occupying 5 of the bedrooms, most of which have en-suite baths with excellent water flow and abundant hot water. Because of our small number we had copious space when we needed quiet time, and when we were all together we felt comfortable and not at all estranged by the size of the house and grounds. I imagine larger groups would feel perfectly at home as well.

The grounds are magnificent: slightly gruff and unassumingly elegant, it’s a classic Luberon setting with a superb dining terrace and several seating areas. The pool is magnificent: large and sunny with ample room to lie about. We played boules in the evening and several times took bikes down the bike trail that runs in parallel to the D900.

We cooked dinner twice in a week with ease and success. We also had several good meals in town at Les Terrasses: very nice people, good food, fast service. Reliable, even on Wednesday, when everything else is closed. There is a little market for necessities in the village (household, produce, cheese), and a wonderful wine store along the steep path to the overlook, but for a butcher you will need to go to the supermarket in Apt or Coustellet. We highly recommend the lovely Domaine de Capelongue for dinner; it’s a short walk from the house. We had delightful dinner there in the gastronomique restaurant one evening. What a setting. They also serve in the more casual La Bergerie, which we did not try. The best recommendation for Bonnieux is to wander the village, upper and lower, to see what’s there. There are hidden treasures throughout, and more than you might expect.

Day trips are de rigeur, of course – Saignon, L’isle sur la Sorgue, Lourmarin, St Remy, Fontaine de Vaucluse... We did the Sunday market in L’isle sur la Sorgue but I’d probably go elsewhere for a market experience. The Friday market in Eygalieres is lovely and low-key by comparison; it’s smaller and less of a show than L’isle sur la Sorgue. L’isle is more endearing on non-market days, although its river-side dinner spots are touristic and (on the basis of one meal) just predictably ok.

Great week in beautiful Provence!

  • 5 of 5

13 family members descended on this property last Saturday for a fun-filled week. So much for the 7 kids to do on the property - swimming every day, boule, ping pong and fun property to explore. The adults all had space to spread out and enjoy quiet time and fun gathering spots for happy hour each evening. We used Herve' as a chef for three evening meals and he was so warm and wonderful and the food was amazing. The kids loved him. We had a great time exploring nearby villages and markets. Lovely area of Provence!
