Traditional 2 bedroom cottage in beautiful rural location. Newly modernised.
Originally built in the mid 1800's as a gatekeeper's cottage, South Lodge is now a cosy 2 bedroomed cottage on the edge of the small village of Ringford. The cottage has recently been modernised and extended and now includes a sitting room with wood burning stove, a delightful sunroom, large kitchen/dining room and newly fitted bathroom. There is a double bedroom with a king size oak bed and a further twin bedroom. Patio doors lead to the secluded sunny garden which has a small lawn, lots of shrubs and a barbeque. There are lovely walks right from the front door and a very popular tea room just along the road.
The village of Ringford gives easy access to the local beaches, horse riding, many places of historic interest, the Galloway hills and of course the vibrant town of Kirkcudbright (4 miles). Kirkcudbright is well known for its artistic connections, popular galleries and independent shops. There is an extensive programme of entertainment throughout the year which includes the Jazz Festival, the Summer Festivities, the Arts and Crafts Trail and the Kirkcudbright Tattoo to name but a few!

A wonderful stay - thank you
We stayed for 3 nights and wished it could have been longer. The lodge is lovely and by far exceeded our expectations. The seating is stylish and comfortable. There is a cosy area with a log burning stove which will be perfect in the colder months. Then there is another seating area which is bright and welcoming with a wall mounted TV. The wet room is modern and the shower works brilliantly. The kitchen/diner is a great size and makes for perfect entertaining with friends or family sat around the table. The garden is pretty with plenty of space for al-fresco dining or just sitting out. It's located in an ideal spot between Kirkcudbright and Castle Douglas. There are plenty of great walks and beaches and bays close by. All in all a super place to stay with wonderful hosts who are warm and inviting. We will definitely be returning. Thank you.

We had a lovely week at South Lodge, the cottage was very well equipped and very comfortable, when we arrived the cottage was very cosy and a lovely welcome tray waiting for us. We would liked to have had an enclosed garden but that did not spoil our stay. very happy overall.
We absolutely loved our stay at the gatehouse lodge, the place was beautiful inside and spotlessly clean, Patsy and Alan provided everything that we would need. A lovely quite little area with a great walk on our door step. The prosecco was a lovely little surprise for our honey moon celebrations. We will defiantly both be back for another stay soon and will spread the word of this lovely little cottage!
It was lovely to meet you both. We are so glad that you had a nice time and look forward to seeing you again.

Out and About Galloway is known as “Scotland in miniature” and has something for everyone. The area is great for hill and coastal walking, fishing, golf and cycling. The ancient town of Kirkcudbright, a Royal Burgh since 1455, is historically very interesting and has a ruined castle, working harbour, museum and attractive High Street. There are also a number of independent shops and cafes. The town is known as “The Artist’s Town” having been home to EA Hornel, Jessie M King, EA Taylor and their friends in the last century. There are regular summer exhibitions and two permanent art galleries in the town. There is also a comprehensive programme of events throughout the spring and summer. (Link to Kirkcudbright summer festivities). There are numerous gardens and places of interest within easy reach, including Threave and Logan Botanical Gardens. You will find local information , maps and guides in the lodge to help you plan your stay.
