Why Neil & Victoria chose Santa Maria de Marvão
The cottage, garden and surrounding area has an immediate relaxing effect on you. The cottage isn’t a business or designed to make a profit it is simply our very much loved home from home. I’m not a photographer and I took the photographs on my phone which I don’t think does the cottage justice. We’ve shared the property a few times with friends and they have always been very positive and complimentary. We are sure you will love it and come back again.

Peace and quiet in great countryside
This is very much Neil and Victoria's Portuguese home. Bruno, the manager was brilliant. We got lost trying to find the house (despite or because of SatNav!) and Bruno came and found us and guided us there. We had an incredibly relaxing 5 day stay. The covered terrace area is superb for relaxing, eating outdoors and just enjoying the great countryside. Easy kitchen to cook in. Really comfy bed and bedroom. We found the local rock formations (plutons) fascinating. On the hilltop overlooking the house is Marveo, which is a lovely Medieval town. Elvas, a little further away is well worth visiting. We knew there was no WiFi, but still did miss it! We had a superb stay.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We are looking at a way of getting WiFi connection and will hopefully have it in the near future. I currently use my phone as a WiFi hotspot as it picks up 4/3G. We hope you will visit again. Thank you for looking after the cottage. Regards Neil & Victoria
Scenic views through the olive trees
We stayed at this lovely cottage for ten days and loved every minute. Everything one could possibly want is there, except WiFi, but that only adds to the complete tranquillity of the surroundings. The view of the setting sun from the terrace is spectacular, there are plenty of local places to visit and we very much hope to return. Bruno is a very useful contact and helped us plan our arrival by car from Spain. Truly a small corner of paradise.
Thank you for your lovely review.
such peace!
wonderfully quiet location, lovely property, well equipped, comfortable & cozy in the evenings. Great plunge pool which is bigger than it looks in the photo. Bruno who oversees arrival & departure is very informative & polite.
Thank you for your kind review and for being lovely guest. We hope you will return. Regards Neil, Victoria and Bruno
Excelente estadia
Uma estadia sem dúvida a repetir.
Desde o sr Bruno que nos recebeu que é uma pessoa simples, atenciosa e preocupada com que tudo esteja nos conformes para uma óptima estadia.
As fotos nada ficam a dever à realidade. A casa e o ambiente envolvente são de uma harmonia, bem estar e natureza espectacular.
A pessoa passa uns dias fabulosos.
Sinceramente, N & V
A Home with a View
We spent a week in this beautiful house and loved every minute of it. This is not your average holiday rental, this is the owners´ second home and you can see the love and care they have put into it. Communication with Victoria and Neal was very welcoming and easy going and Bruno is extrordinarily friendly and helpful - thanks again!
The heart of the house is the large veranda with big dining table, loungy sofa and a magnificent view of the hills. It feels like you are in your own private tree house, sitting atop the olives and the oak trees. The pool is not meant for workouts but perfect for cooling down and relaxing. The kitchen is fully equipped and invites to spend the late afternoon preparing dinner in the shade (or you use the gas BBQ in the back).
The property is located on a very small road where only two or three cars pass by to the neighbouring houses. The next store is a 10 minutes drive away, a bigger supermarket 15 to 20. The drive up to Marvao Castle is also about 15 Minutes.
Apart from the veranda, our favourite places to go were the river pool in Portagem and the garden of the bar O Castelo in Marvao. There are more places to see (you´ll find an extremely user friedly folder prepared by the owners), but what you really want to do is sit on the porch, read a book, sip a cold drink and enjoy the peace and quiet . We would love to come back!
These wonderful guests have completely captured the essence of the cottage and the area in their lovely review. Thank you to them for taking the time to write such a complimentary review and for being superb guests. Regards Neil & Victoria
