In areas you can collect porcini mushroom, asparagus selvatic, selvatic minth, truffles, selvatic fennel. In the area there are teachers of cooking, pizza and desserts fiscally and professionally licensed. When you are booking a house with a child, you want a location that's safe. The house designer materialized this concept. One-story homes have ageless appeal-that is, they are perfect for everyone, regardless of age or ability-making them a favorite. For many people, the lack of stairs is important, and because Domus Mariae have all living spaces and bedrooms at ground level, everything remains accessible and comfortable. Nearby, also, there are several pharmacies, and a hospital emergency room with 8 miles. Check-in 16.00 (Please call in case of delay), check-out 10.00

A home away from home that's just like home plus more

  • 5 of 5

This apartment at the edge of Segni town is a gem. The parking is off road and just a few metres from the front door. The L shaped balcony allows sun throughout the day. This is where you come home to after a day touring or trekking in Ciociaria, or maybe even Rome or Naples. You can leave your car at home and catch a bus down to Colleferro (every 10 minutes or so) then train it to Rome. Or maybe you prefer to drive to find the best of Ciociaria, not just Segni, but tour throughout the wine district of Cesanese (my favourite), up and down hills and mountains. Then come home to the bright (orange and yellow features) apartment. Our host seems to have thought of everything for a family - 2 bedrooms to sleep 5 - plus the baby. Full electric service for safety plus instant hot water. You enter to the living room with the bathroom on the right. Everything sparkles - clean, neat and tidy. Our host gave me the 'cook's tour' and there were so many features that I couldn't keep up. Welcome nibbles and drinks. The family room can accommodate 6 for dinner - tablecloths etc are all new and good quality (as are the towels for the bathroom. The services astounded m. I can have my tea or coffee (3 ways), there is more food storage than you'll need for the vacation. The supermarket is just 5 minutes walk away and you can store a mountain in the fridge with freezer and another freezer. Microwave oven and electric oven, cooktop with pots designed for it. Dishwasher of course in the airconditioned apartment. Laundry facilities including dryer. For entertainment, two TVs, with one able to pick up BBC via satellite. Watch movies, if the day has not worn you out there are pizza bars and restaurants nearby. Even though it is just 100 mteres from the main road the apartment is quiet. Noise will not bother your sleep, Of course you have full internet access if you want to share your experiences. I think this apartment is an excellent home away from home for a small family.

Owner's Response: "A home away from home that's just like home plus more". Thank you for this title of the review. But this is not just a title, these are musical notes, this is poetry. I am very proud to have met the needs of such a refined guest, very attentive to detail and passionate of Ciociaria or the surrounding area rich in history, art, wine oil, mushrooms, truffles, its medieval villages with basalt houses. I'm glad you're interested in all the folk events, the festivals of wine, chestnuts, polenta, pasta, strawberries, cherries. This apartment in Segni village has recently been made available to guests who book on HomeAway, after the experience made with the infinity pool villa in Montelanico village (announcement 1584532). This property has got 13 5-star reviews. I thank you also for the advice you gave me, the result of your long experience as a traveler in the world, I will treasure them. I am happy that you will speak well with your Australian friends who want to visit Rome, Naples and Pompeii.Maria Grazia

About Segni village ....:

Scarab Bridge (Scrabble Bridge) is a medieval arch; its name is associated with a scrabble donated by a Carthaginian prince to a local girl.

Medieval bell towers: (left to right) Cathedral, St. Pietro and St. Stephen

Medieval bell towers: (left to right) Cathedral, S. Pietro and S. Stephen

The Romanesque bell towers of the Signs of the importance acquired by the town in the XIIth and XIIIth centuries when several popes resided there for a short time; in 1198 Lotario of Conti of Segni, a member of the family who ruled Segni village, became Pope Innocent III, one of the most important popes of the Middle Ages and a keen asserter of the supremacy of the popes over kings and emperors.

Cathedral: inscription celebrating St. Thomas of Canterbury and St. Bruno of Cologne

The cathedral of Segni was completely redesigned in 1626-57 in a period in which he was assigned to the Sforza Cesarini (who had another fiefdom at Genzano in the Alban Hills).

In 1173 Pope Alexander III canonized Thomas Becket and in 1183 his successor Pope Lucius III canonized Bruno of Cologne. These two popes were able to reside in Rome only for short periods as the city was hostile to them; They often stayed at Anagni and Velletri, but also occasionally also in Segni village.

The canonization of the martyrs (the inscription is with a palm leaf, the symbol of martyrdom) was a political act against King Henry II of England Church.

Palazzo Cremona (Cremona Palace)

The Sforza Cesarini were more interested in the Roman theatrical life (they built the Teatro Argentina) and in the development and embellishment of Genzano than in the living in Segni village; for this reason Palazzo Cremona is the only XVIIIth century building that stands out from the gray houses of Signs because of its elegant loggia which connects to the building across the street.

Polygonal walls

Gregorovius was anxious to see the ancient walls of Signs which in addition to the modern town. Because of its walls and gates Signs is twinned with Mycenae, one of the major towns of Ancient Greece in the period 1600-1100 BC. The walls of Signs are still as old as those of Mycenae: they are now believed that they were built after the Roman conquest; they are called polygonal walls for the shape of their stones, but Gregorovius preferred to use the term cyclopean, which was used by these mythical giants.

Saracen Gate (Saracen Gate)

This gate was called Porta Saracena after a Saracen (Arab) raid; These ships were not limited to towns on the coast.

Saracen Gate consists of a corbel arch closed by an enormous boulder; It has been compared to the Lion Gate of Mycenae.

Door (of) Foca Gatel (of) Seal

 peperino walls

In the Roman Forum. The name given to the other ancient gate, in the absence of plausible explanations, is said to be a reference to the Byzantine Emperor Phocas.

Signs has also been written to support the small territories (similar to those that can be seen at Cori).

Cisterna Romana (Roman cistern)

Gregorovius reached the acropolis, the top of the hill where the Romans built a large cistern which was still used when he visited Signs; Pliny the Elder (Historia Naturalis - Book 35 - XLVI) mentioned the town for opus signinum, a particular mode of furniture made of tiles aqueducts, pools and cisterns (more on Roman construction techniques).

St. Pietro on the ancient acropolis

XIIIth century fresh; a temple behind the altar

On the acropolis archeologists have identified a temple of the IIIrd century BC which replaced a previous temple dedicated to Juno Moneta; this epithet of Juno meant she was worshipped as protectress of funds; eventually the epithet became a noun from which the word money derives. A church that was built inside the cell of the temple; in 1965 some medieval frescoes were discovered behind later additions.

Gregorovius was at the acropolis on a Sunday evening and he watched the inhabitants of Signs
