Overview

About the property

Cabin, 4 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 4 Baths, (Sleeps 11-13)

If you enjoy the quiet beauty of a rural setting, the Historic UX Ranch is a convenient home base for exploring the entire Black Hills, Badlands, Lakota Country, Sturgis and Deadwood areas. We are centrally located in the beautiful Battle Creek Valley on the eastern edge of the Black Hills.

Our newly converted Bunk house is approximately 1500 square feet with four large bedrooms with queen-size beds, full kitchen, dining area, living room and His and Hers bathrooms with four showers. There is plenty of room in the wide hallway if your group needs extra tables or you have people who would like to bring their own air mattresses.

The panoramic view to the west overlooks our horse pasture where deer and wild turkeys are common visitors. Most nights you can hear a distant coyote howl. The Black Hills are beautiful just up the valley. The view to the east is our hayfield and on toward the Badlands only 10 miles down the road.

The Bunk house was originally an extra barn we used beside the granary but now has a new life as a very comfortable rustic home away from home. The curve of the granary can still be seen in one corner of the entry. We will continue the work on the landscaping, porches and garden area this season and you will see this fact reflected in our reasonable rates.

Horses are welcome. We have a covered barn or open corrals for them at a nominal fee. If you have a telescope, bring it, or if you just love a big sky full of stars, come to the UX Ranch and enjoy the view! The meadowlarks are singing. Hope to see you soon!

Just as impressive as the Blackhills!!!

  • 5 of 5

Jonalyn is an amazing host! The large bunkhouse was plenty of room for our extended family of 22!!! Much more room in bunkhouse than pictures portray. Most major attractions within 30-60 minutes. We spent 7 nights at the bunkhouse without any problems. Comfortable environment with everything you need to have a home base. Loved the mornings drinking coffee looking at the blackhills in the near distance. In the evenings we will cherish the memories made sitting on the front patio stargazing and recapping our daily adventures!! Our family highly recommend UX Bunkhouse!

Absolutely fantastic way to vacation in the Black Hills.

I can't say enough how much we loved our stay here. We had a group of 9 family members at the ranch, and the bunkhouse was PERFECT for our stay. We had room to spread out. The kids had plenty of space to just be kids. The decor is so super cool in the bunkhouse (think eclectic Western). I mean, I just can't give enough praise. My personal favorite was watching the sunset each night over the Black Hills. You really can see Mt. Rushmore with binoculars, so that was also awesome. Each morning, we had deer walking in the field directly behind the bunkhouse. We heard coyotes, too. On our last full night, we had a campfire and roasted marshmallows and hot dogs ... all things you can't do at a chain motel. On our drive home, as we asked the kids about their highs and lows, each of them listed the bunkhouse as one of the best parts of the trip (and we did a lot!). We used the bunkhouse as our landing spot each day as we daytripped around the Black Hills. The bunkhouse is about an hour from Hot Springs, pretty super close to Custer State Park and maybe a half hour from Keystone. I was worried that we'd be kind of far from everything, but it worked out just fine. A+++++ from this family!

Simply Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

Our family recently drove from Colorado and gathered at the Bunk House with my brother's family from Wisconsin. We had a total of 7 children and 4 adults staying together. The Bunk House provided just what we needed and we are very thankful for the time we spent there. There was plenty of room to do all that we needed. Our kids loved playing both in the big hallway as well as in the huge yard. The fires at night in the fire pit were great! The host was very kind and provided all that we needed for a wonderful stay.

Great bunkhouse - would stay again in a heartbeat!

  • 5 of 5

We gathered three generations together and stayed a long weekend in the bunkhouse. Huge space, lots of room to spread out, private, comfortable and relaxing. We brought extra blankets - totally not necessary, had more than plenty in extra closet. Peaceful and relaxing vibe in the bunkhouse - all enjoyed! 4 bedrooms, more than plenty of beds for our group. Close to Mount Rushmore and other attractions. Grocery store within a short drive.

Space to spread out.

Thanks for using your bunk house. It had rained before we got there and during our stay. Some of the doors were hard to close because of the rain. However, we trusted no one would walk in on us. Our 2 yr old and 6 yr old were delighted with the cowboy hats and the saddles to pretend they were real cowboys even had jail house keys. We even had to buy a cowboy hat for the 2 yr old. The Adults enjoyed the huge comfortable space. We did not need the air conditioner, but did enjoy the laundry room and clean clothes. It was amazingly close to Crazy Horse and Mt. Rushmore to enjoy night programs. It was also nice to have home cooked breakfasts and you can see Mt. Rushmore from just outside the back door. We also played some miniature golf in Rapid City. The rabbits and other small wildlife may be seen out the windows. It was a nice time to visit with family and friends.
