About Katie and Bryan
We fell in love with the Hocking Hills several years ago. After spending several family vacations in the Hills we decided to purchase a second home there in order to escape the daily grind of work and raising a family, giving our boys a better opportunity to experience the outdoors. We found the perfect place for us, close to the state park caves and lots to do on the property. We try to make it to our cabin at least once a month from Cincinnati and we truly love the peace and quite that is so lacking in everyday life. This is the only rental property that we own and manage so you are assured to have our undivided attention as our guest.
Katie and Bryan purchased this Cabin in 2015
Why Katie and Bryan chose South Bloomingville
The setting is truly private, the property features several rock outcroppings along the private drive entrance along the creek, and it has its own mini version of ash cave! The well appointed interior, layout, and open floor plan was just the icing on the cake!

Great weekend away.
Great place to stay. Responsive owner. High speed internet and a cable. As noted, just be prepared to climb a pretty steep driveway to get to the property!
We had a relaxing stay. The cabin worked out great for our family trip. 4x4 is definitely needed to reach parking area!
Very quite and secluded. Close to Hocking Hills parks!
We're glad you had a great trip!
Perfect Family Getaway
This was our first family getaway staying in a cabin and we loved it!! The cabin is gorgeous and my 2 daughters didnt want to leave and asked if we could just move in! I had a scare becasue I couldn't get the hot tub to shut off but the owners were very quick to get back with me and inform it that it was all good it's on a timer! We brought everything we would have needed on our own, but I was very shocked to find that I didnt need to pack so much becasue cabin was stocked with everything you would need to cook with instrument wise. Next time I know not to pack so much! The trails were great and my family had so much fun exploring the woods. For me the driveway was a little scary but our truck made it with ease and my girls thought it was coolest driveway ever!! Thank you so much for a great weekend and I would highly recommend this amazing cabin to anyone looking for great getaway in the woods. Cant wait to plan our next trip!! Thank again
We're glad you and your family had a great time!
Has potential, but has issues and poor communication
I see lots of good reviews about this property, but I guess we caught the owners at a bad time. We've been renting cabins in the area for 10 years, so we're pretty accustomed to what a typical rental property and experience is here. First, the good: it's a beautiful location with lots of privacy, and the hiking trails are nice. The cabin is a good size, and is located close to Old Man's Cave and Ash Cave.
Now, the bad. We arrived to find the hot tub had been empty and was in the process of being refilled. We were disappointed that we wouldn't have access to it the first night, but mostly disappointed that no one had notified us beforehand. It seems like that would've been the courteous thing to do. I messaged the owners and after a couple hours they responded that the maintenance man would be by that night to check the hot tub and turn off the hose refilling it. The trouble was that the hose flow was so low that in two hours, the water level had only risen two inches. I told the owners that it would take overnight to fill and I'd be happy to watch it, but they never responded. In fact, we never heard from them again. Luckily the maintenance man agreed to let the hose run all night and showed me how to turn on the power, so 28 hours after our check in, we finally had a hot tub we could use. I know hot tubs aren't guaranteed, so I didn't push the issue, just wish we'd been informed.
The worst issue though is that this cabin is entirely infested with mice. You can smell it the minute you walk in. We were worried about it, so the first night we cleaned up all of our food, and made sure everything was packaged and put away. The first morning we discovered that mice had managed to climb on top of the high top table, and had chewed open packaged food that we had. I realize that this is a cabin in the woods, and critters appear, so I didn't push the issue, but I did message the owners to let them know and ask if they were aware of the issue. Again, no response back from them ever. It would've been nice if they could've at least arranged for some mouse traps to be brought out. The last night we ate dinner, cleaned up and went out to have a fire. In the hour we were at the fire, the mice had come and chewed into other food packages. We had to resort to keeping all of our food in the car for the night, and I'd advise any other guests to do the same.
Get away from all
The property was very nice, the design of the house and especially the living space was excellent, providing for togetherness without being on top of each other. The hot tub was great, everyone enjoying it and felt good after long, strenuous hikes in the fabulous surrounding areas. I feel that the roughness and length of the driveway should be stressed because it would be almost impossible for a car to get up. Fortunately, we had a pick-up truck and a jeer so it was doable.
We did notice signs of mice in the kitchen, which is a bit of a turn-off for food prep. But overall, the property is very nice.
Suzanne - we're glad you enjoyed the cabin and all of the amenities!
The driveway is stressed in our listing so it should come as no surprise to our guests, but it is amazing at how many either don't read the listing prior to booking or just don't believe us or past guests that have mentioned it in their reviews. Alas, it is not impossible for a car to make it up the driveway as our cleaning crew's front wheel drive sedan routinely makes it up without issue, as do we in our front wheel drive minivan.
We wish that you would have let us known about the signs of mice so that we could have the opportunity to address the situation real-time rather than let it go unchecked and hear the same compliant from the next guests.
This is a pretty impressive place.
Our stay was quite enjoyable. If they fixed it up a bit I would highly recommend it. There were a few things that I hope the owners address - when it rained the roof leaked (downstairs bedroom and middle guest bedroom), the arms fell of the couch, the fireplace ledge was loose, the handle in the shower was loose, the grill doesn't get hotter than 350 degrees, the can opener was broken (we bought a replacement for the next folks), hot tub missing neck rests.
The owners were nice and very responsive. The view was amazing. I hope this doesn't deter anyone from staying. I just think a little maintenance is in order.
We're glad your enjoyed your stay!
At the end of the busy summer season I agree there is a need for some maintenance. Unfortunately guests do cause some wear and tear on some of the furnishings. To address your specific items in your review:
- A roofing company has been unable to find the source of any leaks
- Arms fell off the couch? You must mean the trim pieces on the front of the arms for the chair in the dining area that became loose and were simply stapled back in place. Arms falling off a couch sounds horrific :)
- The hearth has been re-caulked, thank you for letting us know
- The grill got up to 550 degrees last Sunday when I was there, perhaps you didn't have the propane tank valve fully open?
- And the hot tub now has 3 new head rests, thank you for bringing that to our attention.
Again, we're glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for bringing these maintenance items to our attention.
