This charming, spacious villa provides a quiet haven amongst over 2000 square meters of lush, semi-tropical gardens. The wisteria-covered entrance to the villa leads to a large, wooden-beamed salon with an open dining area and traditional fireplace. French doors lead out to a large south-facing dining terrace shaded by leafy vines. The terrace can also be accessed directly from the fully-equipped kitchen. There are three spacious double/twin bedrooms, one single bedroom which can take an extra cot, one full bathroom with toilet, bath and shower, a shower room with toilet and a separate toilet.
Following down steps from the terrace, is a free-form, in-ground pool (which measures 11.5m x 6.5m at its widest point) surrounded by palm trees and a fountain which flows from a surrounding rock formation. There is a large covered summer kitchen, complete with fridge, BBQ and running water, which provides a second alternative for alfresco eating.
Location : Lorgues is approximately 1 hours drive from the Mediterranean, the Gorges du Verdon (the Grand Canyon of Europe) and the villages of St Paul de Vence and Aix-en-Provence, renowned for their art cultures. International airports include Nice (I hour), Marseille (75 minutes) and Toulon/ Hyeres (I hour).
Activities: The property offers a perfect base for exploring Provence and the Cote d'Azur. There are numerous local markets, vineyards and restaurants. The local restaurant, Chez Bruno, renowned for his truffles offers a truly gastronomic experience. First class golf at the Golf de Barbaroux can be found within a half hour drive. The waterfall of Sillans la Cascade is also only a 30 minute drive where a pleasant walk of 800 meters through the woods leads you to this 42 meter high cascade under which you can swim. The Gorges du Verdon with its many activities including white water rafting, kayaking and boating is a mere hour away.
We stayed 2 weeks at the villa and we were amazed at how well equipped it was. My husband drove down with all of our stuff whilst I flew with our son. We had jam packed the car with fansr inflatables for the pool, tea towels, dishwasher tablets, condiments etc + the usual luggage. We've never found these things in the villas we've been to before so we were delighted to see they were already there. There were freestanding fans alongside ceiling fans so you can sleep comfortably in the lovely weather that you get in Provence at this time of year.
Now we know for next time that we don't need to pack the car so much.
Jennifer, who managed the property for the owners, was a lovely lady who kept in touch during the holiday to let us know when the gardeners were coming. It was also really nice that the lovely cleaning lady comes once a week so she even refreshed the place for us on the Saturday mid-holiday. There was also a lovely man called Julian that popped round to check the pool was in tip top condition. He was very chatty and informative if we were round the pool on his visits but other wise completely unobtrusive. The house has mosquito nets on the bedroom windows and bathroom so if you are careful about keeping the doors shut then the critters can't get in to you.
The surrounding area is so beautiful, Lac Ste Croix is unmissable. With many of the picturesque villages around it being worth a visit. We hired a pedalo to go down the gorge du verdon which is always fun. There are plenty of adventurous things to do and the coast is only about an hour away. We also enjoyed a visit to Chateau Les Crostes and Chateau du Berne for some complimentary wine tasting. We have come home with rather a lot of wine as a result.
The only downside, which is not related to the villa but to Provence as a whole at the moment, is the mosquitos. We sat outside late into the evening on the first two nights but soon learnt the error of our ways. We have since been advised that the best spray is citronella rather than Jungle Formula but, if you do get bitten, I can heartily recommend Eurex as a really good remedy. It's the best thing I've tried in years of holidays with the mozzies.
My only reservation in recommending this villa is that it might get so busy I won't be able to book it again!
Thanks so much for our lovely stay.
We spent a perfect family holiday in this well equipped and well maintained villa. On arrival, we were greeted by Jennifer, the very helpful manager who kindly left us fresh vegetables from her neighbour's garden, beautiful rosé wine from her husband's vineyard and olive oil/ balsamic vinegar from the owners, a nice touch!
The pool and garden area were perfect. Plenty of good quality chairs to lounge on. We found it difficult to tear ourselves away and spent most of our holiday in the pool! The villa was in walking distance, 20 minutes, into Lorgues which is a good sized pretty Provençal town. There is a great supermarket in town and a fantastic hypermarket 20 minutes away by car. The French wine and cheese are so cheap here. The rosé wine is excellent. The large market, with a huge selection of food, clothing and local specialities happens every Tuesday. With the well equipped kitchen, fantastic outdoor BBQ area and good quality food available, we found it was a pleasure to dine at home. However there are plenty of good restaurants in town. The house itself was perfect for our family of teenagers. Spacious and cool with ceiling fans. The wifi was fast- very important! There are plenty of books, games, jigsaws and sky TV available to keep everyone busy. Two very good showers in the house meant no one was kept waiting. The bonus was a dynamo cleaning lady, Martine who came in, mid holiday. We just wish we had her at home! The pool guy came twice a week and the gardener also keeps the hedges and extensive garden in great condition.
As expected, mosquitos came out at dusk and we would recommend Écran spray, available in local pharmacies. There are mosquito screen on the windows.
This villa was an excellent find and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking to relax and escape to a little piece of heaven.
The villa is quietly situated down a country lane in a wooded area, with other properties scattered nearby . The location is very peaceful , and has the attraction of a very pleasant and sheltered garden . The house itself is spacious , with the bedrooms and bathrooms etc occupying a wing of the building , away from the kitchen and large sitting room. Whilst the kitchen isn't large it is well equipped and opens out onto the south facing verandah- which is ideal. In general the house is well equipped with good quality facilities. The pool , with its sloping beach area was lovely - and the little children in the party ( twins aged nearly 3) had a great time , including using the sandpit and other toys. Finally the south facing wide and deep partially covered veranda overlooking the pool was great both for lunch and evening meals ( not to mention the south east facing summer kitchen below which was great for breakfasts and sitting in the cool at other times). The house agent (Jennifer) was very helpful and the pool maintenance (Julian) and cleaning work done very well . Lorgues itself is in walking distance ( but easy parking available too) with a handy small ( and friendly) Casino supermarket ....plus there are many boulangeries and restaurants in the town. Overall the villa is highly recommended.
This is a lovely, homely and extremely well equipped house with a large patio overlooking a glorious pool and garden. The living room area is spacious and very comfortable - plenty of space for our 1 year old to explore - and he (and we) particularly enjoyed the absence of stairs to negotiate inside the house. The house is very conveniently located close to Lorgues, which is a large village with virtually all the amenities required and a great Provencal market on Tuesday mornings. Places like Salernes and Draguignan, both with excellent food shops and markets, are just a short drive away, as are a number of excellent wineries. We stayed here in late November, and were pleasantly surprised that even then it was warm enough to have lunch on the patio or in the summer kitchen (though we were grateful for the log fire for chilly evenings!).
We'd thoroughly recommend the house and plan to make a return visit - preferably next time during summer, so that we can enjoy (rather than just admire) the pool!
After our visit last year we just had to come back, and it quickly felt as if we had never been away.
With the terrace, pool and garden for the daytime and the comfortable lounge in the evening this is a real haven for relaxed company, siestas and pure laziness! A tranquil setting that is only a short drive to the local shops and to Lorgues. Be sure to get up early for the market, much of the best stuff goes by midday! This is not to be missed because the local wines and produce are excellent. We did not travel further than a local chateau this time - for a memorable lunch.
I’m sure we will be back, next time with the family!
We stayed here for 2 weeks (31 july - 13 august 2010). The house is perfect. Very spacious and all accomodations as you have in your own home are available. We had a great time. We totally agree with the other reviews. You feel at home the minute you step into the door. We rather stayed 3 weeks instead of 2............
Tip: take some precautions with you against musquitos!
Lorgues is a medieval village located in the centre of Provence with a wonderful weekly market. The villa is situated in over half an acre of semi tropical and mature gardens at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac on the outskirts of Lorgues.
