This is a gorgeous home in an unbeatable location! The house is just four blocks from the Capitol and within walking distance to all D.C. has to offer. The house has a walk score of 96 (!!) -- you can walk to the restaurants on Pennsylvania Ave. and Barrack's Row, head up to the hip H Street Corridor, or head downtown to check out all of DC's sights. Just around the corner there is a little grocery store, a Starbucks, several restaurants, banks, a dry cleaner, a liquor store, a gas station, and other businesses. Public transportation is also readily accessible, as there are two metro stops nearby (Capitol South and Eastern Market), a bike share terminal is just down the street, and it never takes longer than a minute to get a taxi or an Uber.
The house is bright, spacious, modern, and very comfortable. The bedrooms are large, the floor plan on the main level is open, the design is contemporary, the kitchen is fantastic, and the backyard patio is divine. This is also a great space for families traveling with small children, as the house is fully stocked with books, toys, puzzles, child utensils, etc.
The first level of the home features the living room, dining room, and kitchen in a large, open space. The living area has a gas fireplace and a sleek but incredibly comfortable brown leather sectional -- the perfect place to relax and visit. The dining room table sits six comfortably and can be expanded with the built-in leaf to seat 10+. The kitchen has all the amenities and then some, including two dishwashers, granite counters, and glossy white cabinets. There is also a half bath on this level.
Double doors with sidelights in the kitchen lead out to the patio, which is a small oasis in the center of the city. We have a scooter, tricycle, and other outdoor toys for children to play with -- the patio is fully enclosed, so they can enjoy the outdoors while you are cooking and it is easy to keep your eyes on them! We also have outdoor rugs and poofs to transform the patio into a space to lounge and visit. The strings of outdoor lights give the patio a warm atmosphere in the evening.
The second floor has two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The master bedroom has a king-size bed and an en suite bath with a jacuzzi tub. There is space to set up a pack and play or a twin air mattress (or both!) for those traveling with children. The second bedroom on this level also has a king-size bed and is super sunny. It is stocked with children's books and toys. There is a full-size bath in the hallway.
The third floor has two more huge bedrooms and a full bath. One of the bedrooms has twin bunk beds and is colorful and bright -- a perfect place for children to stay (or adults with a whimsical side!). This room is large and has space for a queen air mattress for families traveling together. The other bedroom has a full-side bed and a beautiful view of Capitol Hill. Again, there is space here for a twin air mattress or a pack and play to accommodate families. The bathroom on this level has a washer and dryer.
To summarize, the permanent bed situation is: 1 King (master bedroom), 1 King (Second bedroom), 1 Full (Fourth bedroom), 2 Twins (Third bedroom). We also have a queen-size air mattress, two twin-size air mattresses, and 1 pack 'n play -- so lots of options to expand for family reunions or other groups.
You'll have the entire home available to you during your stay. Please note that the closets in the bedrooms will be inaccessible.
Interaction with Guests
We are on call 24/7 to answer any questions your have about the home or to offer suggestions to make the most of your time in D.C. Depending on your arrival and departure times, we may meet you at the house; otherwise, we have a lockbox with a key to enable you to enter and exit any time.
The neighborhood is fantastic. This is the best part of Capitol Hill -- super residential, but close to everything, including restaurants, bars, public transportation, and all the sights.
There are two metro stops within a ten minute walk (or less, depending on your pace): Eastern Market and Capitol South.
There is a bike share terminal one block away.
Ubers and taxis are always available.
We can provide a parking permit for those who drive. Please note that we do not have a reserved parking spot, but there is plenty of street parking (which requires a residential permit that we can let you borrow). If you need more than one parking permit, we can arrange that but will need the license plate numbers of the vehicles in advance.
The house is only about a 20-minute drive from DCA airport. IAD and BWI are about 45 minutes away.
Other Things to Note
The home has high-speed wireless Internet, regular TV using an antenna, and access to Netflix and Amazon Prize (but no cable TV).
There is plenty of street parking in the neighborhood, and we can provide the requisite visitor parking permit for street parking. (Please note that the permit must be returned at the end of your stay!)
We live in this house when not renting it out, so we keep the closets filled and they will not be accessible during your stay. We can provide closet space in one of the bedrooms if you request it in advance. The house is extremely live-able, and you are most welcome to use all of the kitchen gadgets, have your kids entertain themselves with the toys, pop in a DVD from our collection, and otherwise make yourself at home! The house is very well stocked with everything you could need during your stay.
