After the drive through you can walk around and see the rest of the animals, a great day out. We suggest you take a picnic and find a nice spot under the trees in the car park.

It’s a central location makes it the perfect holiday base for exploring the stunning Languedoc region and Carcassonne, Toulouse, Beziers, Narbonne and Limoux. There is a bakery in the village that sells other day to day provisions, perfect for breakfast. Carcassonne comes alive for children in July and August, so much to do to list here.
Within a few minutes’ walk you'll find the friendly Terrace Bar serving drinks and basic lunches and a Restaurant serving more gourmet lunches and dinners. A mobile pizza van also stops in the village twice a week. Carol and Andrew Ross love rural France, the friendly people, the hot summers and mild winters, fresh fruit, blue skies, smell of cut grass and the sound of the village clock as it chimes the hours as they pass. Carol looks after the property while andrew works across Europe.
Carol Ross purchased this house in 2001
Petites Ecuries is in the middle of the Minervois wine growing region, surrounded by grapes and great wines. The canal flows at the bottom if its landscaped gardens. Enjoy: sun by the two pools; a drink at either of the 'Baa Baa' Bars; a sleep under the trees; or a game of boules, come sample the fun.
Private, on the Canal du Midi, minutes from many attractions.
Hi Andrew and Carol,
Thanks for a lovely holiday in excellent accomodation.
Wanted to write a review but can't find anywhere on the website to do so! Maybe it's just too full of other good reviews? Happy for you to cut and paste this somewhere. On the upside, Mum and Dad went by your way and picked up a case of wine for us so that will hopefully clear away some of the gloom we now face back here in the rain.

The property is just perfect! Exactly as it appears on the website. We were warmly greeted by Carol and her son upon arrival and given a guided tour of the facilities - the pool, the 'honesty' bar, garden, fruit trees, bikes, and a whole other number of bits and bobs. The property had a games console, books and board games for the kids to use - which they did (Haven't laughed as much in ages as when I watched my 8 year old daughter give my husband and son a run for their money at Wii Golf!). The kitchen was very well equipped with appliances and utensils - nothing a miss. Plenty of hot water available throughout the day. Visiting in October provided a mixed bag of weather, so the availability of heating was very handy. The entire property was spotless and the gardens to the rear were very well maintained. The location of the property for us was perfect. Access to the canal by a rear garden gate. From there you can walk into the village and beyond. We utilised the bikes that were freely available and cycled a stretch of the canal, which was easy and good fun - a perfect option with the children. There is a baker in the village and a bar. We used both and found the proprietors friendly. Prior to arrival we had a wonderful fixed menu lunch at L'idiot du Village in Capendu, a few miles away. Would highly recommend it. Lovely local french cuisine, and pleasant hospitality. Highlight of our stay was a day of hands on cooking instruction at 'Canal du Midi Cooking' school a few miles along the road. We had such a great day with our hosts preparing and cooking our 3 course lunch, while meeting new people and sharing stories. All with a few glasses of wine of course! A trip to Bijou would not have been complete without a trip to the old Cite in Carcassonne. Fabulous medieval walled city, with museums, restaurants, bars and shops a plenty. Something for everyone there, including a tree top trail for our kids 5 minutes from there at Lake La Cavayere. All in all a great few days away, in stunning surroundings in a beautiful property with the friendliest and most helpful of hosts. We will definitely be back!
Immaculate accomodation in a perfect location. We stayed in Bijou which was a delight, spacious and well equipped. My boys (aged 13 and 11 years) loved the pool, and as it is salt water there were no sore, red eyes after hours of swimming. The garden is beautiful and leads straight onto the Canal Du Midi - very scenic. You can walk or cycle for miles in either direction along the Canal, we did both - using mountain bikes available at the property. The boulangerie in the village provides essentials, the nearest supermarket is in Trebes, five miles away. Trebes is also the closest village for a selection of restaurants, most of which line the canal so are a great location for leisurely meals. A good location for days out; we visited a local lake ( Lac du Cavayere), villages a plenty ( Lagrasse is beautiful) and of course Carcassonne. The nearest beach is about thirty minutes away. All in all lovely accommodation in a great location. Highly recommended.
We had a great stay, Carol was very friendly and helpful and the accommodation was spotless. We appreciated the welcome goodies of bread, cheese, salad and wine and used the honesty bar during our holiday. The pool was great, the weather hot. Carcassonne was very beautiful, especially at night. The only downside was the mosquito bites, although not all of us had them. I would reccommend repellant and walking by the canal in the morning rather than the evening.
We had the perfect getaway at Bijou. Carol and Andrew were friendly and very informative, and helped us get settled quickly. And their welcome packet was perfect for our evening arrival. The unit was very well equipped, including the kitchen. The location was near to attractions yet very quiet with a view of the hills in the distance and the canal at the bottom of the garden. The bicycles were very comfortable for a ride along the Canal du Midi's toepath.
We thoroughly enjoyed the hosts, the comfort of the apartment, and the activities of the surrounding area.
One of the most relaxed and enjoyable family holidays we have had, the location is perfect situated right on the canal for walking and bike rides. Bijou was exactly as described, clean, modern and equipped with everything you could possibly need for an enjoyable holiday. Carol and Andrew couldn't have been more friendly and helpful and helped make the holiday so relaxing and enjoyable. Thanks to Louie the dog for keeping us entertained, the children are missing you ! Hopefully we will be back again soon. Tricia, Matt, Tom & Olivia.
After a stunning drive down through the varied landscapes of France we were greeted at the gates by Carol and her lovely (very large) dog, Louis who both showed us round the beautiful extensive gardens. We were staying in the Bijou a bright, airy, well appointed villa with a modern open feel. Carol had very kindly left a welcome pack which came in very handy as we had little time to shop for groceries that evening. Overall a charming place to stay with lots to see and do in the surrounding area. It would have been nice to have a Visitors Book in the villa. It’s always helpful to look at activities and restaurants that past guests have enjoyed, as well as adding your own thoughts into the book.
Petites Ecuries is located in the middle of Marseillette village, near Carcassonne in the southern Minervois region of the Languedoc. It sits on a hill between the Canal du Midi and the river Aude.
If your looking to see and experience an authentic French village, explore the many villages and picturesque countryside, discover great wines and wonderful food then come on down, you’ll love it. Or if you’re like some of our quests they just laze around the pool and garden soaking up the sun. Watch the canal boats meander along the canal du midi at the bottom of the garden.
Want to explore a little further a field then follow Cathar history, check out Beziers, Minerve, Caves (Dinosaur), Narbonne & the Mediterranean Sea, Sigean Wild Life Park and Spain are all close by.
Marseillette has Boulangerie, Bar, Hotel, Cave and in nearby Trebes & Carcassonne you’ll find supermarkets, petrol, chemist, newsagent, banks etc.
The property sits within a UNESCO world heritage zone.
Golf: Carcassonne has a lovely 18 hole Par 71 - 5,758 metre golf course playable all year round with views of the Pyrenees and which is only a 20 minute drive away. A unique course provides a challenge on most holes, testing your skills and technical ability.
There are several other lovely Golf Courses throughout the region. Toulouse, Mazamet and Montpellier all about an hour away. We would be happy to book for you. We have a set of Gallaways you can use if your pushed for space, or half sets can be hired for 10 Euro at Carcassonne. Green fees are around 40 Euro per person or 70 Euro per couple. The driving range will cost you 2 Euors a bucket. Trolleys and electric Buggies are also available.
The Golf Club terrace restaurant and its 3 course lunch (18 Euro per person) overlooking the 1st Tee is a very nice place to relax after a round.
