About the property

La Vigne (Sleeps 6/7. 2 Bedrooms plus a mezzanine) plus cot

La Vigne is one of two granite Breton cottages which provide a "home from home" experience and is perfect for families with young children or couples looking for privacy.

Set within an acre of landscaped individual and secure gardens, in a small, friendly hamlet, within walking distance to the village of Quistinic 1km - with general store, cafe, bar, doctors and pharmacy.

At Exclusive gites we try to provide exclusive facilities for ALL our guests, and as such each property has its own heated private pool (May-end Sept) for their exclusive use, a charcoal BBQ, large individual private and secure gardens (with wooden activity centre) and a south facing patio with sun loungers, plus 2 gravity chairs for those who prefer to relax in a more upright position.

La Vigne is therefore ideal for anyone looking for somewhere secure and that can cater for the needs of the younger members of the family, be it a full sized wooden cot, highchair, push chair, bathroom step-up, toilet training seat, potty, changing mat, baby monitor, magnetic cupboard locks and socket protector.

Equally, La Vigne offers the option to extended families who want to spend time together, but also enjoy their own space, by renting both gites together (sleeping 10).

La Vigne itself has been converted to a high standard, providing modern facilities, such as 39" LCD TV, with both UK and French channels, Wi-Fi, leather sofas, large walk-in shower, plus a large corner bath. The two bedrooms are bright and spacious - one with a vaulted ceiling - with king size bed and a 3ft single bed in the form of a "day bed". A full size wooden cot can also be provided.

A metal framed sofa bed can provide additional sleeping accommodation in the mezzanine area.

The kitchen is, modern and well equipped with an Amercian style fridge freezer with ice and water dispenser.

Immediately outside of La Vigne you will find the grape vine covered seating area from where you can enjoy a meal or drink whilst keeping an eye on the children playing or just watch the humming bird moths enjoying the flowers of the cat-mint.

The indoor, games/play barn which is conveniently situated opposite the cottage, and between the gardens of the two gites (each with its own access), provides a facility for all age groups with table tennis, Babyfoot, snooker and darts on offer. For the youngest members of the family, a secure toddler corner including a "Little Tykes" log cabin offers the ideal place for them to play safely, whilst still in earshot of their parents.

Outside the secure garden and above-ground 6m heated pool provides a safe environment for children to enjoy the activity centre with a slide, swing, "lookout" platform, sandpit and climbing

About Chris Irvine

Having enjoyed living in rural Devon and Cornwall for many years, we became aware that the popularity of the area was increasingly attracting more and more "traffic", so we decided it was time to look for a new location, with a similar climate, and one that would enable us to continue with the lifestyle that we had come accustomed to.

Chris Irvine purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Chris Irvine chose Quistinic

Fortunately, we were lucky enough to find this when we stumbled upon the small, beautiful, peaceful rural hamlet of Locunehen. Here we have been able to sample the laid back Breton way of life, watching the cows

What makes this cottage unique

Our aim is to provide you and your family with “home from home” comforts and the best possible start to your holiday. Knowing how difficult it can be travelling with young children, we pride ourselves on trying to provide as many facilities and items of equipment that we can to make guests travelling/holiday experiences easier.

Whether it be: having Wi-fi; your own heated pool (May - end Sept) ; secure private garden; a games/playroom for those too hot days (and occasional wet ones!), or having an evening meal and provisions awaiting your arrival, we are more than happy to oblige.

For young families we are pleased to be able to provide an extensive array of equipment and prepare the property and gardens with the younger members' requirements uppermost in our minds. We truly believe that if you can keep the children happy, then everyone will have a good holiday!

Guests without children are equally catered for with the excellent service and attention to detail that we provide, down to the detail in removing as much of the baby/toddler facilities as we can.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed at La Vigne with our 21mth old son for 1week. We were given a warm welcome by the owner when we arrived and we enjoyed a beautiful 3 course meal that we had pre-ordered soon after. The gite itself is beautiful, clean, homely, charming and has absolutely everything you need to holiday with a toddler. The owners have thought of everything, making it so child friendly without distracting from the beauty of the house. To dine outside in the evenings under the vines was a particular highlight, whilst our son loved the playroom, garden outdoor toys and swimming pool. We had wonderful days out at pont scorff zoo, Josselin, Auray, market day at Hannebont and walks along the blavet river. On the odd day when it rained there was so much in the playroom and gite to entertain us all. The nearby centre of the village has a lovely small grocery shop where you can buy delicious pastries, baguettes and basic essentials, where we were greeted with a very warm welcome. The small toy shop selling hand crafted toys is also definitely worth a visit. The whole week was so relaxing, we were incredibly sad to leave. To be deep into the heart of the countryside was so peaceful, we hope to return one day soon.

Peaceful, well equipped gite in beautiful grounds with more than enough to entertain the little ones (and the big ones too with the amazing games room!)

Definitely recommend to families who want a bit of peace, away from the tourist hussle and bustle. Car essential for exploring the region :)

The photos don't do this place justice!

A Wonderful Country Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had an excellent time visiting this area of France with the La Vigne cottage acting a perfect base from which to venture. This very clean and well appointed home is located in a peaceful country setting and is central to many day touring options. Whether checking out the seashore, historic sites and towns, markets or other attractions we were always glad to return to La Vigne and settle in for the evening. The well equipped kitchen and outdoor dinning terrace, which is under a grape arbor, offer the opportunity to enjoy some great meals while at "home". Top this off with helpful owners who have provided lots of local information and La Vigne is an excellent choice. We hope to return one day.

Perfect, relaxing family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We cannot recommend this gite highly enough, evidenced by the fact that this was our third stay and we are already booked to return next July. Chris and Richard think of everything to ensure that your stay is as relaxing and comfortable as possible. We have two small boys and they love the garden, pool and the indoor and outdoor toy selection. My eldest who is 4, just kept saying wow the whole time! My husband and I cannot believe how much we are able to relax here, the gite is simply stunning. The ability to order a welcome meal ready for our first night, always gets the holiday of to a great start. Chris and Richard are full of great tips to make the most of your stay and every year come up with new places for us to visit which are always great!

The river beach at Minezan (3 km) is perfect for days when you want to combine a walk or bike ride along the towpath along the River Blavet with a visit to the "river beach" and a drink or ice-cream from the nearby rustic bar.

Beaches are within a 35-40 min. (30km) drive away - 30 minutes to Port Louis at Lorient - and offer large beautiful white sandy beaches where swimming and water sports can be enjoyed. Wind surfing/kiting is particularly popular on the west coast of Quiberon and Larmor Plage.

Airport: Dinard/Nantes/Brest 2 hour drive. Rennes 90 mins. Lorient (from Southampton) summer only and to Stansted (summer only) 40 mins. Port: St Malo/Roscoff 2 hour drive. Caen, Cherbourg 4 hour drive. Calais/Channel tunnel 6-7 hour drive with tolls. A car is necessary. Brittany Ferries: When booking with us and travelling via Brittany Ferries from the UK, we are able to offer a 10% discount from your fare.

The village centre with general shop, patisserie, cafe, pharmacy, post office, bar-tabac is a 2 minute drive away. Visiting butchers, pizza and fish vans together with a bio-vegetable stall once a week, provide for a very local shopping experience. Supermarkets/petrol stations can be found at Bubry (6 km) and at Baud (12km) away.

Further Details:

Quistinic is situated in the heavily-wooded Blavet Valley yet only 35 minutes to the coast. Just along the valley the restored 16th century hamlet of Poul Fetan has been brought to life. Visitors may watch demonstrations of rural tasks of that period, take a drink and snack at the bar, and buy local crafts. During the summer months at nearby Pont Augan one can hire kayaks and bicycles, relax over a restaurant meal, take a pleasure boat trip to see more of the countryside bordering the river, or enjoy a cycle ride along the towpath. Fishing is a popular local pastime and there is easy access along the banks to the water. For those who wish to relax, Quistinic is an ideal location, and days can be spent without travelling far afield. However, there is much to explore within the region in any direction. Seafood enthusiast can indulge their appetites at excellent quayside bar/restaurants in St Goustan, Auray, or taste freshly-baked pizzas and salads. The historic walled town of Vannes with its timber-framed buildings and cobbled streets offer a wide range of interesting shops to browse. Each major town holds its summer celebration: the ten-day Inter-Celtic Festival in August draws crowds from far and wide to Lorient. Most village/smaller shops close at mid-day until 2pm. Supermarkets likewise close between 12 noon and 2pm out of season, during the high/peak season many will stay open until 7pm.
