Uruguay Villa Rental Photos and Description

3-bedroom house: contemporary architecture, 3 terraces and 2 bathrooms

This spacious bright villa enjoys views of the sea and a beautiful white sandy beach and is only 150 m away from lovely dunes. It is not far away from the “movida” of Punta del Este yet in a small quiet village immersed in the nature. No high constructions and ecological atmosphere. It is ideal to do sports (mountain biking, water sports, horse riding, golf and tennis). There are different nearby beaches either quiet for families (Playa San Francisco) or more challenging (Playa Brava) with surfing and kitesurfing spots (Punta Negra). It can be used as a base for trips to José Ignacio, Cabo Polonio and Montevideo. There are good restaurants and you can buy fresh fish from the fishermen and good Uruguayan beef meat. Uruguay is one of the safest countries of Latin America. You can go horse riding in the surrounding countryside and on the beach. We are close to the International Airport of Punta del Este (20 minutes) and Montevideo is easily accessible via the road including by bus. You can combine your holiday with a stay in Buenos Aires (1 h by plane). Punta del Este between sea and movida: Punta del Este is around 30 minutes from the house. It is considered as the Saint-Tropez of Latin America with glamour atmosphere on the beach and a pretty crazy nightlife. Very trendy: aperitif facing the setting sun in Barra de Punta del Este. Punta del Este spreads along several km of coast. It has different localities: Punta Ballena (rocky peninsula where is located the Casapueblo of the artist Paez Vilaro and the Lussich Arboretum), the central part of Punta del Este (a sort of small Miami with large buildings), La Barra and José Ignacio (localities with small houses and villas immersed in nature, golden youth atmosphere). In Punta del Este, there are tourists from all over the world, many young people but also quite a few billionaires. This place also preserved a wild and natural aspect with its huge beaches that are often unfrequented. It is a real pleasure to go to Punta del Este and then get back to the more peaceful and ecological atmosphere of Punta Colorada where is the town of Piriapolis. Nostalgic Uruguay: 5 km from the villa is this small seafront town with a very nostalgic Uruguayan atmosphere in an environment that is different from Punta del Este. In Piriapolis is Hotel Argentino, which is a big hotel that was built in the 30s and that remained intact with its period lams and golden mouldings. The palace also has thermal baths with indoor and outdoor pools. At night, there are often concerts and tango shows. In addition to the Hotel Argentino, in Piriapolis, you can admire many Art Deco houses and go up by cable car to the top of the mountain overlooking the town and the sea. In the streets, there are many old cars: visiting Piriapolis is a like a time travel. There are also themed tours about the story of the town, which was founded by the industrialist Francisco Piria, a legendary figure, with visits of symbolic places of its time. This place, unlike Punta del Este, is not frequented by many foreign tourists. Cabo Polonio, swimming with the dolphins: 2 h by car from the villa, Cabo Polonio is a nature reserve where you can see whales at certain times of the year (September-December) and swim with dolphins looking for human contact. We are around 10 km from the small village of Cabo Polonio by car. From here, you can reach it with big open jeeps or on a horse back. Cabo Polonio is on a rock promontory where you can admire a colony of sea lions. The panorama from the top of the lighthouse is wonderful. Cabo Polonio is surrounded by high dunes (you can also walk in the dunes and if you want, within 2 h, reach the typical village of Valizas, which is a bit hippy). The water in Cabo Polonio is green and clear with nice waves. The small houses of the village are colourful and inhabited by fishermen or Argentinian tourists who tastefully renovated these old houses. Cabo Polonio is a place away from the world, away from everything. Punta del Este between sea and movida: Punta del Este is around 30 minutes from the house. About Francoise Kadri Martinelli

We have lived 4 years in Uruguay, we are journalists and we love this country and particularly Punt Colorada because the village has a particular atmosphere and the inhabitants (who live here all year round or have a secondary residence) are very attached to this place that they try to protect from the housing speculation with a “comision de fomento”. It is sort of the opposite of Punta del Este, it is more for families with young children or teenagers. The place is quiet and far away from the nightclubs, bars and trendy places of Barra de la Punta del Este or José Ignacio while being not as hippy or in bad state as some localities of the department of Rocha.

Why Francoise Kadri Martinelli chose Uruguay

To finance the maintenance of the house because it is by the sea, it often needs renovation, repairs and maintenance of the wooden parts.

What makes this villa unique

The house by the sea is stunning and very well maintained and the rates are affordable. We love our 3 terraces including the one of the roof to see the starry sky of Punta Colorada at night. In our opinion, we also have wonderful panoramic views from the 3 sides. The design of the house is inspired by Japanese houses that are Zen, peaceful and immersed in nature. The garden is very relaxing and is ideal for children. Beds are comfortable (all orthopaedic). The dining room and the open plan kitchen are on the first floor to always enjoy the views. This layout can be disconcerting but over time, it is a brilliant find of our architects. We did not buy this house, we built and designed it with 2 young female architects from Montevideo. We spent many nights with them choosing between different building plans and they even designed the units of the kitchen and the beds of the bedroom. The bathrooms also are the result of their creativity with carefully chosen accessories.

Un placer!

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

Perfect for a family

  • 4 of 5

We've already been two times in this house. Location is great, a few meters from the windy beach and at five minutes from the quieter "mansa" beach. This three terraces house, full of charm, is great for a family with a master bedroom and two others with two beds each. The price is ok, considering the crasiness of the rates in the area. We'll definitely come back!

Car: recommended

Close to Punta del Este, on the seafront, 150 m away from a stunning white sandy beach and lovely preserved dunes. Beautiful contemporary two-storey architect house with 2 fitted terraces with sea view, solarium and large garden. The village of Punta Colorada only has around 100 houses, immersed in the green Atlantic maquis yet very close to the “movida” of Punta del Este and only 15 minutes from the airport. The house can sleep up to 10 people including 2 on the sofa-bed. It is very close to Piriapolis: thermal baths and shows at the Art Deco Hotel Argentino, tennis, restaurants and many shops. You can go horse riding close to the house. There are different unspoilt quiet beaches which are ideal for suffers. Right behind the house is the typical rolling Uruguayan countryside. To visit José Ignacio, Cabo Polonio, La Pedrera, the region of Rocha and Montevideo, you need 1 h to 2 h. Golf: different golf courses in Punta Ballena, Laguna del Sauce (Club del Lago), Punta del Este and José Ignacio.
