Overview

About the property

Our apartment is located just 10 meters away from Place des Neufs Jets (The Nine Jets Fountain) and although it is on a cobble stoned pedestrian only path, you can drive and temporarily park as close as 15 meters to the front door to drop off your luggage/shopping.

This spacious, 2-storey apartment is refurbished with a bright sitting room which has a comfy sofa, coffee table, flat-screen TV, DVD, iPod docking station, English books and DVDs. There is a modern, fully equipped kitchen with an electric oven with grill and rotisserie, gas hob, extractor fan, microwave, fridge and dishwasher, kettle, coffee maker, toaster, chrome bin, clothes dryer, ironing board and iron. There is plenty of crockery, cutlery, utensils, glassware, saucepans and a shopping basket ~ a must for the market! The light and airy 1st floor bedroom sleeps 2 in comfort in a king size bed. There’s a wardrobe, chest of drawers, comfy chair, full length mirror, laundry basket, hair dryer, bed linen and towels. Off the bedroom is a modern en suite bathroom with a large walk in shower, heated towel rail, washbasin and loo.

A copy of our Advice for Guests sheet can be found in the striped folder. All contact and emergency telephone numbers including Things To Do in Ceret are contained here.

We provide bed linen and towels and all the other items that are awkward to bring if arriving by plane, such as toilets rolls, kitchen towels, tea towels, hand soap, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, J-cloths, scourers and bin bags.

Ceret is a beautiful old town nestling in the foothills of the Pyrenees, with tree lined streets and shady squares. The town has retained its distinct Catalan heritage, which can be found in local customs, festivals and food. In the summer months, the local squares provide convenient stopping-off points for Sardane dancers as they wander the town. You can enjoy al fresco dining, under the plane trees and jostling umbrellas of the restaurants. Hearty Catalan dishes can be found on many menus in the town and beautiful surrounding villages.

Our property can be identified, within the medieval walls, on maps dating back to 1647. Right in the centre of old Ceret which is lively and popular on summer weekends, with occasional live music, chatter and laughter can be heard from nearby restaurants and wine bars in Place Neufs Jets. On Saturdays, the cobbled streets are lined with colourful market stalls selling locally produced cheeses, honey, fruit and veg, bread, wine and a wealth of local craft.

Loved by artists because of the fabulous views and light; Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Dufy, all lived or spent time here and their paintings hang in the Ceret Museum of Modern Art. Today there are still many galleries and popular exhibitions. With plentiful shops, restaurants, cafes, two banks, a library and a public, open-air swimming pool (in July and August).

The lake in the next village of St Jean Pla de Corts is a must for sunbathing, boating and walking. Eat in the lakeside bistro or take a picnic! For longer walks or mountain biking, head to the hills. For sun worshippers, the nearest beach is a short drive away at Argeles, with picturesque Collioure and other pretty bays along the coast.

There is a busy calendar of lively events throughout the year check the Tourist Office listings particularly in the summer months, including La Fête de la Cerise in May, Feria de Toros and Le Festival de Sardane in July. Come and explore this lovely little corner of France for yourselves.

Matthew and I are based out of Singapore so we have a local representative, Jackie, who takes care of the apartment and is on hand for any matters.

About Lina & Matthew

I'm an Australian Chinese married to Matthew Blake, who is British, and we have been permanently based in Singapore since 1996.

This cosy apartment in old town Ceret, is attached to our main house which we visit a couple of times a year as part of our retreat from the busy city life in Singapore. We fell in love with Ceret during our first visit and we hope you will too!

Lina & Matthew purchased this apartment in 2017

Why Lina & Matthew chose Céret

We love the location of this property as it's right in the centre of old town Ceret.
