Pors Mabo
Car: necessary

The beach of Pors Mabo, 10 minutes walk from the house, is unspoilt and clean. There's a diving board for high tide and when the tide's out the rockpools are rich with sealife and shells. Please be aware the beach does not have a life guard.

Nearby Ploumanac'h, like many Breton coastal communities, consists of two distinct sections. The beach area is Ploumanac’h-Plage, while the village centre a short way south is officially Ploumanac’h-Bourg. The headland in between holds an appealingly wild public park, again scattered with bizarre red-rock formations, including the unmistakable Napoleon’s Hat. In summer, boat trips set off from the little fishing harbour that adjoins the bourg. Their destination is the Sept-Îles seabird sanctuary not far offshore, where seven craggy islands shelter species including puffins – present between March and July – gannets, and guillemots.

This coastline is popular with walkers and beach lovers alike. around Ploumanac’h

A great place to do this is at Ploumanac'h. Check the tide times before you go there, so that you can make a walk over the bottom of the 'sea' between the rose granite rocks at low tide. Also along the rose granite coast there is the GR34 hiking trail that runs for over 1,800 km along the Brittany coast. The route called ‘customs path’ (sentier des douaniers) is a good starting point with public parking and a well maintained, created footpath. Here you will see many breathtaking views of the rose granite rocks and the sea.

Plage de Trestraou about 12 kms away

A beautiful beach where the water is crystal clear. Whether you choose to laze around on the beach, walk along the promenade or dine in one of the many restaurants overlooking the beach, this is an area of stunning beauty.

Pleumeur-Bodou has a planetarium and the Cité Telecom, a communication museum. Also an amusement park for children, Le Village Gaulois.

Aquarium at Tregastel

This has an amazing location, built into and around the large rocks so typical of this coast line.

Morlaix is a commune in the Finistère department of Brittany in northwestern France. It is a sub-prefecture of the department. The old quarter of the town has winding streets of cobbled stones and overhanging houses constructed of stone and timber. Many have religious and secular sculptures on their façades.

Chateau du Taureau, the Alcatraz of Brittany!

A boat trip takes you to the island where the Chateau du Taureau is situated. The fortress

has had many different uses in its history, from defending the coast from marauding English attackers, to imprisoning some of the first French Revolutionaries, and was occupied by German forces during WWII.
