About Alley Juckem

Norally's Vision

I was born in Panama near the Panama Canal. My father was a career soldier, the son of an Iowa Farmer. My mother was a citizen of Panama.

I lived and went to school in Panama till I was 8 years old. I remember the country as a very pretty, tropical country. I also remember that as an Army brat, I never felt at home there or in many other places that the military would take us. Being a child I really could not understand, why. That is until my father was transferred back state side.

I will never forget arriving at my Grandparents Iowa farm home. It was late at night and there were fireflies glowing all about. My Grandmother (Hattie) came running out to greet us. The love she had for my father was written all over her face. When she hugged me it felt like I had always known her, and that hug. I can still remember how she smelled.

My grandparent’s home was large, inviting and had plenty of room for us all. The next day all my fathers brothers and sister their spouses and children came for a big family gathering. I had Uncles, Aunts and cousins that loved us. They were our family. We belonged to each other. We were home.

My grandparents lovely farm home is now gone, as are they. I could not save that wonderful farm, but the love, laughter, fun and memories my cousins and I shared is ours forever.

I didn't know at that magical moment, how my life would move. I did not know that in my darkest hours, those magical moments I had shared with my family, at my grandparents home would keep me warm, bring me hope, make me smile and give me strength.

I came to realize that it was not the house and farm that we enjoyed so much as each other. Having room to all be together under one roof.

It is our vision to give families that visit Norally House or The Rose on Norally Acres that wonderful blessed feeling that they are always welcome, always at home.

Alley Juckem purchased this house in 1987

Why Alley Juckem chose Asheville Area

My Husband and I designed and built this beloved property in 1987 for our growing family. We wanted a 6 bedroom home close and easy access to Asheville on some small acres with surround mountain views from sun up to sun set. We felt that if we were going to live in the mountains we wanted to see them from every window.

We did not think we would find the perfect spot until one day we got lost actually heading to another piece of land for sale. We pulled over unto a road off the main road to check out a map because we did not have GPS back then. It was a beautiful summer day and while my husband was checking out the map I was looking around at the beautiful sight before me. I remember leaning against our car and saying “why can’t we find a perfect spot like this.” My husband looked up and said “wow!! Guess you got to have a bit of luck or angel to find perfect spots like this.” We both started to walk around the beautiful location pointing out how perfect it was. As we walked back to the car a man walking his dog came over to us and told us he lived just down the road. We introduced ourselves and told him we were lost he started to help us by giving us directions to where we were headed. We mentioned that we hoped the property we were about to see was as beautiful as the one we were standing in front of. He then said “well you know this property is for sale the sign must have fallen down.”

We could not believe it!! He had the name and number of the owner. We got in our car decided the heck with even looking at another property. We had found what we wanted. We headed straight back to our rental called the owners of the two perfect acres and closed the perfect deal that night. The rest is History.

I do not believe in luck but I do believe in Angels.

What makes this house unique

The surround mountain views made us fall in love with this property. The private two acres just 10 minutes from the heart of Asheville is an added plus. The French Broad river is one and half mile bike ride or jog. The small town of Weaverville just a stroll away. The fine dining in Asheville and Weaverville is outstanding. The many festivals and events held all year around is always exciting and fun. A grand adventure seems to be waiting around the bend all year round. Visitors can enjoy viewing wild turkeys, and other wild life along with surround mountain views.

Just like the song goes "nothing could be finer"!

Church Reunion

  • 5 of 5

We all raised our children in the same church in Virginia. We were 6 couples and 1 single from Virginia, New Mexico, Ohio, North Carolina, and Kentucky.

The view was amazing. We were all able to sit around the tables on the deck and enjoy the beautiful sunrise and the mountains. The bedrooms were spacious with lots of extras such as hair dryers! The bedding and towels were lucious and very high quality. The dining areas were perfect for our large group as we were all able to gather around one of the 3 large tables and enjoy our meals together. We have travelled to many places and rented many houses and none of us has ever had seen such an incredibly outfitted kitchen. There were multiples of everything.....even 2 blenders! (They even had 2 driveways to accommodate many cars!) And not only that the kitchen was well organized and spotlessly clean. We did not really spend time in the lower level where there was a huge indoor hot tub and a variety of game tables (we spent out time enjoying Asheville and the gorgeous view from the deck chairs). Alley returned all of our phone calls promptly and answered all of our questions when we were planning our visit. We all highly recommend the Asheville area for vacationing (the house was only 15 minutes from the Biltmore Estate) and especially the Norally House! We loved it all and would like to go back again sometime! Once is not enough!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your nice review. I am glad you and your family enjoyed your stay. We met your lovely sister (also on homeaway network) while she was checking out and she also said the house was nice, had everything you needed and that you all had a wonderful time. As for the updating, you may have noticed that we are painting inside and out along with removing and replacing flooring in between reservations. We have a lot of repeat groups during the summer and they have their favorite weeks we have to work around. I am sorry we were not able to trade with your sisters vacation rental, perhaps another time. I have the phone number she gave me. Have a great summer!

Happy Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

We had 15 family members from age 1 to 94 come and enjoy the house for Thanksgiving.

We loved the mountain views, the deck, the fire pit, the ease of getting to Walmart, and

the accessibility of the house for my slightly disabled 94 year old father. The owners

are delightful and very helpful; they answer the phone calls and emails promptly.

Family reunion

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for a multi-generational family reunion. Everyone had plenty of space to spread out and find their niche throughout the house. Our teenagers disappeared to the basement and enjoyed the game tables while adults hang out on the main floor and the deck surrounded by the beautiful views . Between the babies who woke up early and the 20-somethings who stayed up until the wee hours, the house met our needs and everyone had a blast.

Great house for a crowd!

  • 5 of 5

We had a family get together here, 16 people total, ranging in age from 1 year to 70 years old. The floor plan is great (seven bedrooms, split between three floors) and the deck was big enough we could all enjoy dinner together outside the first night, with a beautiful view of the mountains. The house was very clean, and the kitchen was definitely stocked for a crowd (lots of utensils and dishes, etc). Lots of great outdoor games at the house -- horseshoes, ping pong, bocce -- and a huge greatroom that we could all gather in for TV and board games. Only ten minutes to Asheville, so we went into town on Saturday.
