Extremely clean and well maintained house on edge of Anchorage. Easy drive to town and recreation areas. Large amounts of wildlife able to be seen from living room from fox, moose, eagles etc.. Stayed for a month nothing but great things to say. House is only a couple of blocks from park access trails that go on for miles and only minutes from grocery stores. Kitchen has very nice gas stove and can accommodate any cook. I frequently come to Anchorage and will be staying with Matt on future trips.
It was a real pleasure to have Erik and Amber stay here. Good communicators, very tidy, found positives in everything, and left the place spotless. They are such nice people too, even helping take care of a pet and cooking a delicious dinner one night.
Travelers like them are what makes VRBO hosting so enjoyable, and you can't go wrong renting to them.
The barn exceeded our expectations. It was spacious, immaculate, and had all modern appliances. The beds and pillows were comfortable - a big deal for us. The host is thoughtful - the barn was stocked with a few basics just in case you didn't get to the market the day you came. A favorite was all the books and guides on Alaska - great reads and illuminating. The host also sent a pdf of "notable things to do in the area" ahead of time. We are NYC folk but took host advice and went for the outdoorsy wilderness experience (and his restaurant recommends) - and so much the richer for it.
The Cherry on Top of Our Alaskan Vacation!
You cannot go wrong with "The Barn". From the comfortable, spotless interior to the wildlife-filled yard, there was nothing amiss.
I can't say enough about our hosts. There were breakfast foods and other goodies waiting for us upon arrival, (at about 1:30am, no less - and we still got a personal walk through!). Our children played ball and had s'mores with the hosts' delightful boys and we even got a fresh salmon fillet from Matt's (the host) fishing trip. Matt is full of great suggestions for your trip and knows salmon professionally - fishermen, don't miss out of Matt's expertise!
But those things are just extras. The cabin itself is a repurposed barn in a nice neighborhood on the side of a mountain. It's completely modern, with a large kitchen, washer & dryer, and a bedroom with a queen-size bed. Upstairs, there is a little living room with a fold-out bed and a TV. There's this cute little loft as well with a twin size bed and desk. It can be accessed by a sturdy ladder that my 5 year-old had no problem scaling. Outside, you have a yard area with a fire pit and we saw a bear and a moose. We went in August, but in the winter I'm sure you can park your car in the cabin's garage and sled down the hill in the back.
Do not pass up "The Barn". You will not be disappointed!
Thanks for the kind words. We also had a nice time visiting with your family in the yard, it was a nice perk for my kids to have guests to play baseball with and was good to have Wayne to chat with while processing all those fish. Yes, the sled hill gets a lot of action in the winter.
Come back anytime!
Our family stayed for a week and had the best experience! The house is so cute and and was very clean. Plenty of room for our family of five. The neighborhood is wonderful and in a great location. We took a walk almost every night (sometimes at 10:00 due to the 20 hour daylight😀). But most of all, Matt was a wonderful host! Very helpful, called to check on us and how our trip was going, and even proveided us with plenty of breakfast supplies and snacks because we arrived late at night. Matt, thank you very, very much for making our stay in Anchorage so wonderful!
Thanks for the kind words! It was a real pleasure to have your beautiful family here and I am glad to hear you guys enjoyed staying at the barn. Your day trips sounded awesome; it is great to see visitors getting out so much!
It was like having a home in Alaska!
Our first trip to Alaska was wonderful! We decided to have a home base in Anchorage and see the sights from there. I am so glad we did. The "barn" was perfect for our family of five. It was great to have this place to come home to after our busy days. The barn is in a perfect location, so close to town with beautiful scenery. Matt was a great host. He helped us plan our adventures and it felt like we were staying with friends. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to stay near Anchorage. Thank you Matt for sharing your home with us!
Thanks for the kind words Valerie, and for leaving the place in such fantastic shape. It was a pleasure to meet your family; I was pretty impressed you actually went out and caught those salmon - nicely done!
A beautiful, quiet get away
The accomodations were fantastic and Matt was a great host, even providing firewood for the outdoor pit and meeting family who delivered groceries before our arrival.
It was a pleasure having your family as guests. Enjoy your travels, and come back any time!
