Amble Back

Located in the quaint riverside town of Fordingbridge. The aptly named Amble Back is a short level stroll from the pretty High Street in Fordingbridge which leads to the riverside park for fishing, great children's play area, paddling pool and skate park. Children of all ages will love the den in the attic!

Basic information

Our changeover day is a Friday. Short breaks are available out of high season, or on late notice and are generally Friday to Monday or Monday to Friday, although it is always worth asking if we are able to accommodate other dates. For more details on booking please read through to the bottom, learning more abut our lovely cottage on the way.

Relax

The lounge has a lovely open fire with coal and logs provided. There is a flat screen freeview TV, DVD player and a bluetooth speaker for your music. Relax on our squashy comfy sofa or, if you prefer, the fun rocking chair. After dinner why not read one of the books you will find on the shelves, including lots of guides and information about the area.

Eat

The fully-equipped handmade kitchen includes a cooker, smeg dishwasher, fridge freezer and microwave. There is beautiful Orla Kiely crockery in the cupboards with lots of cookware should you choose to eat in. A table for four is in the kitchen and you will find tea, coffee, and other larder items provided free for your use. If you prefer to eat out there is a choice of pubs and cafes all within easy walking distance. Alternatively, you can drive a short distance to the delightful New Forest pubs or the numerous restaurants, cafes and pubs in Ringwood or Salisbury.

Sleep and bathe

On the first floor is the spacious family bathroom with a shower and bath. Furnished as a seaside retreat, luxury towels are included in your stay. The spacious double bedroom has a comfortable kingsize bed with feather duvet and pillows (synthetic if preferred), fresh cotton linen compliments the bright room. There are 2 wardrobes and ample shelf space for your clothes. A hair dryer will be found on the shelves. Ascend to the second floor to find the fun attic room with 2 comfy single beds that can make a large double if required. The room is a delight for children and adults alike. The rooflight looks out over the garden and the beautiful ash tree. If you only need one bedroom tell us as we may be able to price accordingly.

Outside

The kitchen opens into a porch area, ideal for coats, boots and flip flops. This leads onto the patio and a lawn for relaxing or playing. There is a table for those meals outside cooked on the BBQ with tools provided. Afterwards relax on the comfy loungers. A mature ash tree provides welcome dappled shade over some of the garden in the summer. The garden is fenced.

Parking

Amble Back is on a side street on the edge of Fordingbridge. You can pull up outside to unload. There is on street parking just 10 metres away. We also provide a parking permit for the car park 5 minutes walk away. This is valid across all New Forest car parks, making a great saving on parking charges for the whole of your holiday.

Who would love it here:

We welcome children of all ages and one well behaved dog at a cost of £20. The cottage comfortably accommodates a family of 4, two couples and is cosy enough for one couple. We are sorry but Amble Back is not suitable for those with mobility difficulties. The stairs to the attic room are steep and narrow. Smoking is not permitted anywhere at the cottage.

What is included:

The price you pay includes everything you need. The cottage has full central heating and a real fire, some coal and logs provided. There is endless hot water. The beds are made up with crisp cotton linen and large fluffy towels are in bathroom. There is also a tea towel and kitchen towel. Have a cuppa on us when you arrive, tea (english breakfast and earl grey), coffee (instant and ground) sugar, biscuits and some milk will await you. There is also a small larder to make life easier, sauces, spices, herbs, flour etc as well as the practical things, washing up liquid and tablet, cling film, kitchen roll, a couple of toilet rolls and more. The cottage comes with unlimited free wifi. Unlike other cottages there are no added extras once you arrive.

Cost

The pricing system will give you an indication of cost. However, it is inflexible and does not for example allow to reflect whether you are seeking the use of 1 or 2 bedrooms. As we only like to charge for what you need in term time our prices are set for 1 bedroom and use of the second bedroom is an additional £50. In school holidays the cottage is priced as a 2 bedroom but please inquire for an accurate quote. Our prices are set to 04 Janaury 2019. Please contact us for prices after that date as the system automatically defaults to the cheapest rate and we cannot override it. The quote you will get for January 2019 onwards will not reflect the correct price.

About Sue Plumb

A former city lawyer who now enjoys life in Fordingbridge running the type of holiday cottage I would like to stay in. Our aim is to provide everything you need to a high standard so that you feel very at home while on holiday. This is our second cottage having started 4 years ago.

Sue Plumb purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Sue Plumb chose Fordingbridge

The New Forest is a fabulous area for wildlife and fauna but in the middle of the Forest itself you can be a little way from facilities. Staying in Fordingbridge means you can eat, shop, drink, and play all without getting in the car while the wildness of the Forest or the beach are just a short drive away.

Great owner, comfy cottage

  • 5 of 5

Firstly thanks once again to Sue (owner) for a great Christmas break.

We booked at late notice, and Sue made a real effort to get in touch with us promptly and confirm all the particulars.

This even extended to them offering to add a few festive decorations for the period, which we were delighted to take them up on. We arrived at the cottage and everything was spotless and looked festive and great. She left really good information and was happy for you to be in touch if you needed anything, but otherwise to leave you in peace.

The accommodation itself was cosy and comfortable for a couple, and the description on the website is accurate and contains all details. The kitchen was really thoughtfully provisioned with all those essentials for self catering (eg kitchen roll, cling film etc etc). I would highly recommend the property to anyone looking to stay in the area.

We used it as a base to visit the New Forest and spent most of the days in the National Park. The free parking pass which belongs to the cottage was invaluable. It was a short drive into the NP itself, and most of the tourist attractions were within 45 minutes away.

In the interests of balance I would say that the road on which the property is situated is busier than we anticipated looking on the maps, as whilst it should be a town back lane (it's narrow) it appears to be a cut through between the two main roads through Fordingbridge. The front door opens almost directly onto the main road with no curb and the curry house opposite meant the street was busy until late. However the inside of the cottage was warm and comfortable and the noise wasn't a major distraction (eg didn't disturb our enjoyment or rest)

Owner's Response: Thanks for taking the time to post a review. We are delighted you enjoyed Christmas at Amble Back and the easy walk to all the pubs, shops and cafes in Fordingbridge. It also good to know that the passing traffic did disturb you. Future guests, there is a small pavement and curb outside the door before the side road on which Amble Back is situated. We look forward to seeing you again one day
