About Brenda and Mel Cohen
Mel and Brenda Cohen are both retired and are natives of Morganton, NC. Located 28 miles from Morganton, the location of this Jonas Ridge vacation home was perfect and the cool summer temperatures lured us to this area. This has been a great get-away for our family and we hope it will be for yours. We are 30 minutes away, and are available if the need arises.
Brenda and Mel Cohen purchased this House in 2003
Why Brenda and Mel Cohen chose Newland
We had been looking for a Mt home with long range views for a number of years but the the homes is our price range might have winter views but not really what we were looking for. Finally, we saw this home, and although the trees were blocking the views, we could see it's potential. The house had a great layout and was in a rural setting. We made an offer that day and the rest is history. Although it is a short distance from where we live, the culture of the locals, the lifestyle, and the weather make this a very unique place to visit.
What makes this House unique
Of course, we loved the beautiful Mountain views, but as a gardener, I was excited about all of the native plants and wildflowers. "Gardens of the Blue Ridge" is less than a mile from our home and they have been selling native flowers and plants all over the world since 1896. Since we bought our home in 2003, my flower gardens have expanded and the butterflies and hummingbirds are abundant. Feel free to cut and use the flowers during your stay.

Great place to stay with your family!
We had such a great time staying at this beautiful property! The house was extremely clean and fully equipped! Mel and Brenda were very responsive with all of our questions. There was a folder with all important information you will need to know about the neighborhood and the house.
The view is amazing! I recommend this house 100%! It was the perfect place for our holiday break and we’ll definitely come back!
Thank you for your kind words. You are welcome anytime.
Great view and very quiet
We had a great time with family. The house was very well situated on the side of the mountain with a breathtaking view. Definitely recommend a 4 wheel vehicle if bad weather is expected.
Great place to stay in the mountains! Great views of the mountains. The owners were very helpful with directions to the house. Enjoyed the weekend in the house!!
Thanks, and we hope you will come back.
The view is amazing and the house is very well kept. Highly recommend this house.
Everything was absolutely great!
Amazing view at 3900 feet
My husband and I enjoyed 4 nights in this beautiful property perched high on the ridge with amazing views of the mountains. The temperatures at a higher elevation were a welcomed retreat from the heat and humidity of the foothills. The sunsets were fabulous as were the night skies. We enjoyed watching the hummingbirds and goldfinches dancing among the flowerbeds. The landscaping is well kept and the flowers beautiful. This is one of the cleanest rentals we have visited. The home was very comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped. The Linville area has so much to offer. We loved driving the backroads and a copy of "Touring the Western North Carolina Backroads" in the house helped us get to know the area a little better. There is such history we did not know about this area. I highly recommend a visit to Mountain Beach Road and the visitor center along Wilson Creek. Just past the visitors center is a great swimming spot. Wiseman's View Scenic Overlook was well worth the bumpy, unmaintained dirt road drive. You definately need an SUV or high profile vehicle. A moderate hike to Upper Falls was worth it but not for young children. Getting on the Blue Ridge Parkway was so easy and the location is close to other cities such as Newland, Banner Elk, Blowing Rock and Boone. I would highly recommend this rental. The owners communicated with us to give us better driving directions and the addition of the balloons on the street sign were very helpful. Our GPS would have turned us on a road before Pittman Road. We will definately be back to visit this gorgeous rental in the future.
Thank you for the wonderful review.
