About Bev & Chris Hutton
We both grew up in Manchester and really wanted to be in the countryside. I worked in travel when I left school and loved visiting different countries. After my second child was born I gave up work and became a child minder so I could spend more time with my children. Chris worked in insurance when he first left school and then worked for a large bank. His job became stressful with lots of targets to reach. We wanted a quieter less stressful life. We moved to France in 2004 with our two young children Laura age
Bev & Chris Hutton purchased this Barn in 2004
Why Bev & Chris Hutton chose Lezay
We chose this area as the weather is good you still get the seasons and the summer isn't too hot. We fell in love with the garden and the trees and bought the property with the idea of making a small holiday complex.
What makes this Barn unique
We renovated our farmhouse first and then the gîtes. We decided early on that we wanted to make the gîtes wheelchair accessible , the size of the gîtes also allows families and extended families and friends to holiday together. We have made some great friends and met people from all different walks of life. We are onsite if you need any help or information and are happy for the children to accompany us to feed the chickens and collect the eggs. The gîtes have their own private garden areas so privacy is respected too. We are happy to welcome dogs as both gîtes have their own private enclosed garden areas.

We thoroughly enjoyed out stay. Lovely gite, clean and spacious. Very relaxing area.
Excellent swimming pool. Everything you could want. Very hot weather so a fan was provided which was much needed.
Bev and Chris are wonderful hosts and the welcome food pack upon arrival was a very nice touch.
We would without doubt recommend this Gite.
Extremely Spacious Gite. Private with good sized pool
The pictures don't do this gite justice - its very spacious with a great mix of french and modern. Fully equipped with everything you need for a stay. Pool and courtyard are great and very private. Ideally situated too for days out. Lovely spot and we plan to return!
Fantastic holiday in perfect accommodation
We have just returned from our wonderful 2 week holiday in Lezay and we stayed in Gite 2.We were a family of 4 (two adults and 2 teenagers )
The property was great, very spacious and clean, had everything there we needed. Bev and Chris ,the Owners ,were very friendly and helpful.
The pool was great and was very much appreciated especially as we enjoyed very hot weather during our stay.
We loved Lezay and the surrounding area.
So glad you had a great holiday. We hope to see you again soon!
spacious gite in peaceful surroundings
Very warm welcome from owners Bev and Chris, making us feel welcome and made sure we had everything we needed. They were very helpful and relaxed.
The gite was easy to get around being smooth wooden floors for my husband in his wheelchair and the building remained cool when the weather was hot outside, with comfortable living space.
The bed was just a little smaller than we are used to being a standard 4ft 6in .Cozy ! but that is my opinion.
We were happy with everything, it's a very peaceful location and has a good local supermarket in village, for us, we wished we could have found more choice of local restaurants.
Accessible gite near Melle
This was our eighth holiday with Bev and Chris, so we are very keen on returning to Les Cerisiers. The gite is as described, clean and well maintained, and more spacious than you would expect. Bev and Chris are on site, and can provide lots of info on places to visit, where to shop etc. Our car broke down one year, and Bev and Chris were very supportive with advice, phone calls.
The gite is very quiet-virtually no traffic noise except the odd passing tractor- so you really hear the birds sing.
The gite is very good for a wheelchair user. The ground floor is level access, including the main bedroom and en-suite shower room. The roll-in shower chair makes showering and bathroom use completely safe. There is enough space for the wheelchair to move around the bedroom, and huge space in the kitchen/dining room. The cooker is conventional but there is a good perch stool which allows a user with some leg strength to safely use the cooker.
If you want to a baguette, you have to nip out smartly when the baguette lady comes in her van, or drive to Lezay (2 km).
The weekly Lezay market is very good, and there are many attractions in Melle- some superb Romanesque churches ( Unesco world heritage site), medieval silver mines
Lots of towns for a day trip. Cognac - an excellent tour of the Hennessy distillery, and a wheelchair-accessible riverboat trip. Saintes is a lovely town and Angouleme has an excellent museum of the cartoon strip
We will be returning again in summer 2016, so we would certainly recommend it, especially to a group including a wheelchair user.
We are able to order from the bread van if required especially if you fancy some fresh croissants!
Lezay our nearest village comes to life on a Tuesday morning when there is a large street market and indoor market. Here you can buy local produce including bakey items, fruit and veg, fish, meat, wine. There are also houseware stalls, clothes and plants. Melle a 15minute drive away has a silver mine to visit and 3 romanesque churches. The Valley des Singes is a 25 minute drive away this is a monkey park with all different species. You walk through and accross different islands where the monkeys roam free. This is great for kids of all ages and there are play areas and picnic areas as well as cafés on your way round. Within an hours drive you have swimming lakes and rivers lifeguards are there during the summer holidays. Futuroscope in Poitiers is a large amusement park with a difference it is an hour away take a picnic and stay the whole day there is a laser show when the sun goes down! For anyone interested in shopping the centre of Poitiers or Niort have a good range of shops from boutiques to the larger chains. There are lots of restaurants and places of interest too! If you want a day at the seaside La Rochelle is a must steeped with history, lots of restaurants, museums, a harbour and even an aquarium. The best beach is Châtelaillon plage unless you want to take the toll bridge over to the Ile de Ré where there are plenty of lovely beaches and harbour towns to visit.
