The Little Crooked House on Lancaster City Quay

Bedrooms 2
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 5 nights

About the property

Cosy, city centre accommodation, sleeps 5 with ever changing river views.

(ALERT! I have put discounts in place for September/ October 2018 as the rear wall is being rendered which will mean there will be scaffolding up over a 4 - 6 week period, the windows will be safeguarded (probably covered) and there will be limited access out to the back. However, you'll still have fine river views out the front. Please ask for more details! )

A wonderful cosy yet quirky experience lies in wait for you on Lancaster City Quay. The Little Crooked House has two double beds in two bedrooms with riverside views (and a put-you-up futon bed, too). The farmhouse style kitchen is welcoming and fully kitted out for guests. (En suite not quite ready and attic room still needs TLC). Sitting room is useable but still needs attention. Gas fire not working and floor needs insulating. The Little Crooked House is just off city centre and in spitting distance of all your needs: the Castle, Priory, the Railway station and buses. Sainsbury's is a short walk away (7 minutes!) along the river and there are pubs and eateries on your doorstep. Please ask if you have questions and enjoy the wonderful Lancaster - wherever you go!

About Claire Bleazey

Phil and I roar through life enjoying time with family, friends and at a variety of festivals around Europe; we love BBQing, simple living, wild camping and supping wine at the end of a busy day. Phil makes wooden flutes and I'm his glamorous assistant when not managing property development. We love the dance and music of the European folk scene which brings us friends far and wide and takes us to wild and wonderful places: castles, muddy fields and outdoor pool ceilidhs! I love to potter round my beloved Lancaster on my pushbike - up canal tow-paths and and down local scenic cycle routes and Phil tours Europe in his continually tweaked Morgan or magically and most beautiful up-cycled Land rover, Bright Phoebe. When time allows we love to ramble the rolling hills in the stunning Lake District nearby and seem sadly, at the moment, to never have time to read a book...

Why Claire Bleazey chose Lancaster

A leaning Listed Building (grade II) in a beautiful Conservation area, 5 minutes from centre! You won't be disappointed...

Welcome to the historic Lancaster Quay and the iconic Little Crooked House where right angles are not quite ninety degrees and the horizontal is a novelty! A sea captain, used to the listing decks whilst at sea, built his wonky on-shore home some 250 years ago. So beware, shipmates, you may need to adjust your gait to accommodate our sloping floors!

However, storms and waves will be abated and your stay will be peaceful, comfortable and you will enjoy Lancaster's cultural city at your fingertips. A wonderful place for solos and couples and, in time, families, friends and larger groups. Children: Please talk to me - I will consider non-toddlers with responsible parents! The blue room has a comfortable (low) double bed, sofa and arm chair. There is a small wardrobe, and TV with Wifi. The adjacent bathroom has bath, shower, washing machine and a loo with a view. The large and comfortable Red Room (not quite complete) will welcome easy going-guests.... Bed, wardrobe, drawers and somewhere to sit. SMART TV. Pictures are missing off the walls and ensuite still at planning stage (February completion, we hope). The double Futon welcomes an extra guest or two. The back window is to be replaced - all in good time though. The kitchen: tell me what's missing - I think it has it all with a lovely table at which you can laptop or dine! Help yourself to cereal and fruit, tea and coffee... So, will you walk the Pendle Witches' Trail or cycle to Slave Sambo's grave at the beautiful Sunderland Point (check tides!!!)?

What makes this house unique

I give a small percentage of takings to Global Link (a development education centre, creative learning and action for a just and sustainable world (URL HIDDEN) and endeavour always to use eco friendly cleaning products and fair trade or locally sourced delights and you will enjoy completely ethical-sourced services (Phone Co-op broadband), gas and electricity: with Tonik Energy (100% renewable electricity and gas). (Please note if you want laminate floors and a modern feel - this is NOT for you!) Bookings will be for three day weekends - otherwise two days usually please. Occasionally I offer single nights (or please ask). We now have two comfortable, cosy rooms available (two doubles) and a double, shortened futon (so - five to six guests max) - In time, we will be able to accommodate more but bear with us while we are working on this historic home.

Claire and Phil look forward to meeting you very soon.

Owner's Response: Many thanks Susan for going to the trouble of writing a review - and thanks for all your thoughts on bringing bedding and towels - it's saved me a lot on laundry and ironing - (any idea what happened to the little green hand mirror in the red room???? ...) Happy New Year!
