About Ruth Utting

I live in Rutland near my two daughters and four grandchildren. We all love Kalkan and have many friends in the village. There are many restaurants to try, many of them on the roof tops with superb views overlooking the bay and village and some nestled around the harbpur. The standard of the food in Kalkan is excellent, with lots of fresh vegetables offering a wide choice of cuisine to please most people.

Ruth Utting purchased this villa in 2011

Why Ruth Utting chose Kalkan

Kalkan is a very special place with lots of wonderful rooftop restaurants, all offering superb views over the Mediterranean, and amazing fresh food, quaint shops run by very colourful people. Once you have visited Kalkan you will fall under its spell like we have. We have been going for over 18 years and find something new about the village every time we visit. The local people are very genuine and will do anything to help you, what more can I say?

What makes this villa unique

Because of the position of Villa Cecile you get lovely breezes most days. The Villa is in a very quiet area so you will not be disturbed by traffic or people noise. Opposite the Villa is a small apart hotel which has a lovely bar and restaurant which has a weekly bbq.

Perfect villa and location

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a fantastic 10 day stay at Villa Cecile. The villa is very spacious, spotlessly clean and really well equipped. The outside space is wonderful with a beautiful view and plenty of shaded areas. We spent the majority of our time lounging around outside and using the fab infinity pool. We barbecued a couple of nights and ate out the rest of the time. We chose a different restaurant each night and were never disappointed. The Marina restaurant was the favourite of the adults with the teenagers preferring Doy Doy. We took a trip to the gorge, visited Patara Beach and spent a day on a boat. Would definitely recommend doing all three. We didn’t bother with a car as taxis were so cheap. Kalkan is a gorgeous place and everyone is so warm and friendly. We would definitely recommend Kalkan and Villa Cecile.

A Wonderful Holiday

  • 5 of 5

Our third trip to Kalkan but our first to Villa Cecile. The best review I can give is to say that we shall definitely be booking again next year. The villa is immaculate, well maintained both inside and out. It is conveniently situated to walk in to the town whilst remaining quiet and private. The owner and the agents are very responsive dealing with requests and queries both before and during our holiday.

I would highly recommend Villa Cecile.

Amazing villa and fantastic holiday

  • 5 of 5

This was our 8th year visiting Kalkan but the first time to villa Cecille and we must say this has been the best Villa that we have stayed in. This large villa has everything you need and was impeccably clean. The size of the plot that the villa was on, the huge pool and the outside spaces to relax in was amazing. Communication with the owner Ruth was fantastic and she was very helpful and flexible with our need to stay in the villa for a few hours longer due to flight times. Kalkan itself is the most amazing place hence the reason that we have returned for the last 8 years. We do recommend if you choose to go onto a boat trip to go with the boat Zeus and captain Ali as he gives you the best day out and we have used him for the last 6 years. We also recommend the Kleo bar on the beach front, again we have been going to this bar for many years and Girrali the owner and Hal are so welcoming, the food is great as are the cocktails and the prices are very reasonable given the location. We cannot recommend this holiday enough. It can be difficult when you are booking villas direct as you are not sure what you are going to get. Saving hard for a holiday and having concerns about what you are booking for the first time is understandable as we have been the ourselves, but we can assure you that if you book villa Cecile and visit Kalkan you will not be disappointed at all. We had the best holiday ever! Andy, Rita, Laura, David, Mikaela, Danny, Kanan & Eden

Super location great clean villa very attentive owner. We had a fabulous 2 weeks and would definitely return. One small grumble would be the WiFI. But nowhere near enough to stop us coming again. Would recommend wholeheartedly.

Beautifully presented - and what a view!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived very late, but Ruth organised a transfer for us. It is 2 hours from Dalaman, but the driver was great and stopped for refreshments along the way. Note that the cost is approx £100 each way if there are 7 of you! The house easily accommodated us in perfect comfort, though we spent most of the time lounging around the lovely pool and sitting in the shaded outside dining and living areas. I think there could be a bit more in the way of local info in the house folder, but we took advantage of the limited advice and went to Saklinkent and Xanthos - both amazing days out. For this, I rented a car (£40 per day, even for a 7 seater). Each evening we walked down the (very steep) hill into town, and only once walked back up. Use a cab! It's just a few pounds and well worth saving your legs. The town is pretty, clean and full of nice restaurants. We'd recommend Old Street as our favourite. Be prepared for every restaurant owner to pitch at you as you walk past. It's harmless, polite and very local. The Carrefoure is easiest for groceries, but seemed expensive. You'll need to buy lots of water too! I'd stay again, without doubt, and actually would probably choose a cooler month. Recommended without hesitation.

Patara beach is a beautiful, 7 miles of sand unspoilt by buildings or hotels with sun beds and umbrellas to hire and sloping sand into the shallow sea, a must for beach lovers.

Saklikent gorge is about a 15 minute drive away where you can white water raft or just climb down the waterfalls and end up in one of the numerous restaurants at the base, a truly lovely day out.

There are various Roman ruins to visit, Xanthos now a worlds herritage site, is a 20minute drive away and was the capital of Lycia when the Greeks inhabited this area and dates back to the 4th century BC.

One of my favourite things to do is hire a boat from the marina for a day which will take you to small uninhabited bays, provide a super lunch and afternoon tea. Swimming from the boat in the turquoise water and just floating around is truly special.

Kas is a 30 minute drive from Kalkan and well worth a visit, lovely little shops and cafes, winding streets and a beautiful harbour.

For water sport lovers there are two water sport centres, one at Indigo Beach and one at Kalamar. You can take a taxi to either which is only a short distance from the Villa.

A visit to the trout farm for lunch is a unique experience. The restaurant is built over the water and the trout very fresh. The ride to the trout farm is very pretty through pine forests and waterfalls.

Kaputus is one of the most beautiful bays, a short ride out of Kalkan on the Kas road. It is not for the faint hearted as there are about 100 steps down to the beach but well worth the effort!

I hope this has given you a insight into the beautiful area in and around Kalkan, and I am sure you will find some of your own, happy sightseeing!
