CASA ROSA - VTAR/GR/01353 - 3 Beds/2 Baths - Sleeps up to 7 people - Shared pool

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,108 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 1 - 7 nights

About the property

Welcome to Casa Rosa, one of three beautiful, self-catering casitas that form ´Casa de las Flores Rural Retreat´, located in Sortes above Órgiva in the heart of La Alpujarra in Andalusia, southern Spain.

The following links will take you to our other two Rental Casitas .

Casa Jazmin (Sleeps 4)

Casa Camelia (Sleeps 3)

Casa Rosa shares a swimming pool (8mts x 4mts, adjacent to the casita) with one other small casita.

Built in the traditional Alpujarran style, Casa Rosa is part air-conditioned and heated via the same units and/or open fireplace (fire wood not provided). One bedroom does not have aircon but it has a very effective ceiling fan and an oil filled electric radiator for the winter months.

The views of Órgiva and the surrounding mountains from Casa Rosa from it´s huge private terrace and the pool terrace are absolutely stunning, right down to the sea at Motril.

The casita is completely self-contained with its own entrance, a kitchen/dining/living area, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and spacious, partly-shaded terrace for outdoor living.

There is freeview TV (English and Spanish) and free Wi-Fi Internet access.

The air-conditioning/heating units are for your convenience but as the cost of electricity in Spain is the highest in Europe & subject to 21% VAT, the use of these is subject to "Fair Usage Agreement". When you are in your casita, of course, you may use it as necessary, although heating is never needed during the night, we provide adequate bed clothes to keep you very warm. The air-conditioning is only needed, & it is only "Fair", if you use it when you are actually in the casita. We reserve the right to enter the casitas & turn the units off, if they are left running when you are out.

There is a separate laundry room with automatic washing machine and tumble dryer on the premises which is available free of charge.

As a holiday rental, you will find "Casa de las Flores Rural Retreat" unique in this area, suitable for singles, couples, families or large groups. One or more of the rental houses can be rented together for social functions, special occasions or corporate events, with a total sleeping capacity of 14 persons.

Parking is adjacent to Casa Rosa.

Walking, Horse Riding & Climbing:

Hiking and horse riding, along with many other activities, can be arranged locally.

It is a particularly delightful area to explore on foot and there are many well-signposted walking routes, ranging from a short stroll, to day long hikes into the Sierra Nevada.

For the really serious walker there are two famous long-distance foot paths that cross La Alpujarra. One is the GR-7 which begins in Tarifa in Cadiz Province and crosses Europe all the way to Greece. The other is the GR-142 which runs from the spa town of Lanjarón (only 15 minutes from Casa de las Flores) to Fiñana on the northern side of the Sierra Nevada in Almería. Before your walk, you can fill your own water bottles at the spa in Lanjarón.

Horse riding is very popular in the area, with several equestrian centres offering rides.

Cycling and Mountain Biking :

Cycling and mountain biking are hugely popular in the area, partly due to the 325 days of sunshine and stunning, mountain scenery. Las Alpujarras are Spain's southernmost mountains and include the longest downhill in Europe.

You can hire a bike locally. If you want to 'do your own thing', then this is an ideal base.

The property is located on the main A-4132 road to Trevélez, which passes through the famous Alpujarran 'pueblo blancos', including Carataunus, Pampaneira and Pitres. A short detour takes you to Bubión and Capileira in the Poqueira Gorge from where you can ride up into the Sierra Nevada Mountains and up the track to Pico Veleta (3,400 metres).

The trails are generally quiet and in the mountains, devoid of traffic.

Climbing, Scrambling and Mountaineering. The Alpujarras are a well-kept secret for rock climbers and scrambling (grades 1 to 3S). Climbing is possible year-round and there are over 200 routes within a 25km radius of Orgiva, with a full range of grades up to 7c.

In the winter months, mountaineering, ice climbing, cross-country skiing, ski mountaineering and snow shoeing are all possible in the area.

Driving: Casa de las Flores is located at the end of a short drive off the main scenic road between Órgiva and Válor. Driving this scenic route through La Alpujarra and Sierra Nevada National Park is highly recommended. The scenery is spectacular and you can visit the pueblo blanco white villages of Pampaneira, Bubión and Capileira in the Poqueira Gorge.

From Capileira, the highest of these villages, there are fantastic bike rides and walks into the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Further afield, there is Granada (45 minutes), with the iconic Alhambra Palace. We also encourage guests to visit the Albaicín, the ancient Moorish quarter of Granada.

In the opposite direction along the coast towards Malaga, the Caves at Nerja are well worth visiting.

Beaches: The closest beaches are those of the Costa Tropical, approximately 35 minutes' drive away. The town of Salobreña has a good beach with lots of beach side restaurants and cafés. And if you don’t just want to sit on the beach, you can visit the 10th Century Moorish Castle in the old town.

A further 10 minutes drive west along the coast, the resort of Almuñécar has seafront restaurants, shops, a weekly market, a castle, botanical gardens, a bird sanctuary and a water park

About Nick & Pauline (Nico y Paulina)

We are a British couple who fell in love with Casa de las Flores and soon as we saw it. It was probably the spectacular views and the peaceful location.

We live here on site & manage the complex together, by doing so we are fulfilling a dream. We will gladly share this with you when we meet (if you have a few moments to listen!).

Nick & Pauline (Nico y Paulina) purchased this house in 2014

Why Nick & Pauline (Nico y Paulina) chose Órgiva

Casa de las Flores is unique in the area, offering outstanding views, peace and quiet, and excellent facilities.

It is within a short drive of the town of Orgiva (5 minutes), which has a wide range of shops, supermarkets, a weekly market, banks, cafés, restaurants, parks and good medical facilities.

Being in the heart of the Alpujarras, there is plenty to do, including visiting the world famous Alhambra Palace in Granada, touring through the Sierra Nevada mountains with its white villages, or driving to the coast, which is quieter than some of the other costas.

What makes this house unique

Casa de las Flores is set on a hillside overlooking Orgiva at an elevation of 625m. The views are absolutely amazing in all directions.

Conveniently located only 3km from Orgiva it is nevertheless a tranquil location offering peace and quiet.

There is plenty of space to relax, either on a private terrace or next to a swimming pool. However, if you prefer a more active holiday, there is plenty to do in the area.

Because there are multiple units, Casa de las Flores is ideal for family reunions or larger groups, as we can sleep up to 14 people. And there is ample space on the terraces for outdoor entertaining.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Lovely apartment overlooking stunning mountains- very relaxing

We stayed 3 nights and wish we could have stayed more! Lovely apartment with beautiful terrace and outstanding views over the mountains. Pool is great and swimming with that view a real treat. Pool is shared with another apartment but still feels very private. Owners very nice, laid back and not intrusive. Rooms good size-twin room a bit small ideal for kids- but be warned that room is the only one without aircon. Tv with English channels which was a nice touch, especially as we were there over the Olympics! Only down side is the distance from the local town orgiva- 30 min nice walk down the mountains but lots of that is on the road and there is no taxi service so you have to drive. Driving upwards further into the mountains into the white villages is amazing. Overall- great.

A great relaxing break in a beautiful location.

  • 5 of 5

The property was very well equipped and comfortable and had the most amazing views. Nick and Pauline are great hosts - very friendly and helpful. The nearest village Orgiva isn't much to write about but we spent most of our time in the beautiful whitewashed mountain villages a short drive away. We spent a lot of time in the pool which was really good especially at night. The views in every direction are just beautiful. We never made it to the beach at Salobrena which will be a must for our next visit (about 35 mins drive) or to the Alhambra in Granada itself (about 45 mins drive) which was fully booked for our whole stay. We did visit a great waterpark (salt water) in Almunecar about 45 mins away overlooking the beach. Lots still to do when we return. Thanks Nick and Pauline- see you next year 😁

Fantastic location & wonderful hosts

  • 5 of 5

Just a few words to say thank you for a wonderful week, a stunning location with a hilly 30 minute climb down to Orgiva but not too difficult if you follow Nicks directions. Maybe take a few stones from the corner wall of the track turning into the property but that is a small niggle in what was a fantastic stay. Beautifully appointed accomodation in a very unspoilt area with unsurpassed views, a perfect stay with lovely, helpful owners and a great feeling of privacy whilst being part of the terraced house. Cant recommend enough :) Mick, Rachel & Pete x

Stunning location where the warm welcome matched the wonderful weather.

  • 5 of 5

This gem of a villa is just an hour and half away drive from Malaga, but as you escape the city and drive through the mountain tunnels it feels like a million miles away. The scenery is breathtaking en route and the destination is even better. The villa is perched on the mountain side with gorgeous interesting views in all directions. It's one of those places that no photo can ever do justice do.

The hosts are very welcoming and helpful with advice of local attractions and amenities all helpfully also provided in a folder in the comfortable villa, which too has everything you need. The villa itself was beautifully presented with comfortable sitting areas. The swimming pool with Casa Rosa was lovely with comfortable pool side furniture and those views to admire in between dips. We watched swallows diving, walkers meandering, sunrises and sunsets and even a Golden Eagle hovering nearby.

When you can bear to leave the poolside there is lots to explore in the area... The quaint white villages, pretty coastline and local Spanish towns. Our highlights were a trip to the Alhambra ( just an hours drive away) and a catamaran trip from the stunning base in la herradura ( 35 mins drive).

Stunning location and property

  • 5 of 5

Family of four, stayed July 2016. The property is surrounded by the most amazing views, and despite the hot temperatures it always had a lovely breeze being so high up. The pool was perfect, just cool enough to provide a welcome relief after a day exploring. And what a place to explore! This area has so much to offer in terms of beaches, culture, beautiful cities, untouched whitewashed mountain villages, wonderful cuisine, walks in the mountains etc. One week is not enough to see everything it has to offer, and we thought it was a perfect place for families as it offered a variety, so everyone was happy.

Granada is a lovely city, as is Malaga, well worth a visit. We found a terrific gorge walk near Monachil, just south of Granada, it has lovely waterfalls and pools to cool off, scary bridges that criss-cross the gorge, perfect for adults and kids - I think we met 4 people there in the whole day!

The property is shared by others but we hardly saw anyone due to the layout, so it is still very private. The property is huge and has everything you will need. It was such a great place the kids never turned on the TV! Nick and Pauline were there but unobtrusive, and always ready to help if you had any questions. They clearly want their guests to have a great holiday and to love the area which they so obviously do. Thanks to you both for your warm welcome and hospitality.

Lovely apartment with great views

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at these apartments twice before and always found them to be of a high standard - certainly not disappointed this time either! The owners take real care to make sure you have everything you could possibly need... They are lovely people, who chat or leave you alone (as you prefer!) - perfect hosts! The views of the surrounding area are breathtaking and we will definitely visit again.
