Sunnyside Cottage dates back to the early 1800's. It was recently bought by us from a family that had owned it for 3 generations spanning over 150 years. In the year we have owned it we have completely restored the building keeping as many of the original details, whilst very carefully installing a new roof, new windows, central Heating for the first time and even a phone line for the first time. The broadband speed in the cottage is super fast at around 55mbps. Also 3G and 4G for mobiles are blisteringly fast. There are 3 TV's in the cottage one in each bedroom and one in the lounge.
The staircase in the cottage is original and steep. The bedroom doorways are very low, so care to be taken in this area.
The master bedroom has a king size bed with its own en-suite shower room. The other bedroom has use of the downstairs family bathroom.
The second bedroom has a zip and link bed and can be two singles or zipped together to make a king size bed.
Down stairs you will find a lounge that has a very comfy leather 3 seater sofa and a Victorian fireside chair with a log burner. A supply of logs will be supplied and more are available at cost on request.
The dining room has a Victorian dining table with four chairs and an original Coal burning stove oven. Every miners cottage in the area had one of these and a third of every miners wages would have been paid in coal.
The kitchen is newly installed and has a neff slide and hide oven door with an induction hob. A fridge and dishwasher. In the corner is an old pine dresser housing plates etc.
Downstairs bathroom contains a shower over a bath and also a cupboard with a washing machine and tumble dryer.
The house has an oil fired combi for heating and hot water, giving a nice flow rate shower rather than an electric one.
Parking, there are two options. There is a pull in outside the front of the house that is off road. It is on the verge but it is a 30 mph zone. The road is not busy. A short walk up the track is required about 10 meters to the cottage gate
The other option is to park at the rear of the property, this involves driving down a narrow lane, then a steep sharp hairpin bend before arriving at the 5 bar gate that in turn leads down to the parking/turning area. Some people might find the hairpin not to their liking however I have had this part of the road re-surfaced and have never had a problem getting up and down it. Please do not use the track that runs up past the cottage from the road as this is forestry commission land and Sunnyside has pedestrian but no vehicle right of access to use it.
The location of the cottage is very close to many of the attractions in The forest including pedal a bike away, go ape, Goodrich castle, Symonds Yat, Puzzle Wood and the River Wye.
In the village you will find a local grocery shop, two pubs that both do food and a fish and chip shop. I would say some of these are walkable depending on your agility, the village is set in a valley and everything is on a hill.
