This is now our third return trip to stay at Nathalie's Breton château and so I feel compelled to write a quick review to express how impressed I was. Coming back here felt homely and familiar, something I feel lucky to have found for our annual holiday! The house is consistently clean and kitted out with everything you need. Staying in the house later in the year really proved that it is a versatile holiday home: a bright beach feel in the summer months, a cosy snug at a colder time of year (be it a large snug!). I really could not fault our stay, much the same as our previous visits! What makes this place so special is the proximity to the beach- so if the skies open up and you want a rain soaked swim, a beautiful five minute walk will take you there! Already planning 2015's visit, five stars. C
Coming back to this site to book a return getaway to the villa, I felt that I had to share my previous experience here last summer...and why I will be returning!
Getting to the villa in La Baule was simple, my friends and I travel on holiday as a group and it is a relief to be able to go away without the car and minimal stress!- Only a quick train from Nantes to La Baule and we shared a taxi to the house (a taxi from the airport isn't too dear either). The quick and easy journey meant that we could open up the house and then head straight to the beach- perfect if you are on a short break!
The villa allows for the rest of your holiday to carry on in this stress-free and relaxed manner because it has everything you could need to do so: plenty of comfortable beds, huge table for long nights of dinner and wine, the option for lovely alfresco dining on the warmer nights and the bright and airy shutter-front chateau won't fail to put you in the beach-holiday mood.
Nathalie's guestbook is full of all the advice you need, whether it's a touristique holiday you want, or to slip in with the locals. All the best places to eat, how to get around and when the markets are on- read it and you can't miss out on what La Baule has to offer. Breakfast, lunch and dinner at the villa calls for a visit to THE best baker in town, conveniently across the road and very friendly (and helpful to those with less skills in the local language department!).
I HIGHLY recommend horse riding across the beach.
The villa is child-friendly with lots of space- a versatile holiday destination!
My friends and I stayed for the weekend at this beautiful house in La Baule. It wasn't long enough. The house was light, airy and spacious; the perfect place for a getaway with family or a group of friends.
It is a two minute walk from the beach and some lovely shops and restaurants. The bakery right across the road was a particular highlight, as was the nearby market town we visited on Saturday morning.
The house and La Baule offered everything we wanted from our short stay in France and Nathalie's guest book gave us lots of helpful tips and information about the house and the local area.
I would definitely recommend a stay here.
Had a fab holiday in this great house. Loved being able to walk to the beach and enjoy the beautiful weather, as well as hop across to the boulangerie for fresh bread in the morning. Light, spacious bedrooms and a lovely communal area to hang out in during the evening. Good cooking facilities and a modern bathroom, with a powerful shower to boot! La Baule itself is bustling and has everything you'd need, as well as being a nice place to wander around. Highly recommend both the house and the area.
WE stayed in La Baule at Nathalie’s house for one week in August. Our group consisted of two children, aged 2 and 4, their parents and us, the Grandparents. We choose this property as it ticked all our boxes of requirements, which were, within an hour of an airport, walking distance to the beach, did not require a car during our stay, close to the train station and plenty for the 3 generations to do in our own time. It was perfect!! All requirements were met. A short walk to the beach, through pretty streets, a small shop which sold basic provisions, 1 minute away, Boulangerie across the road. The main market is a couple of blocks along the same road as the house, which is actually the main road other than the beachfront road, therefore busy, especially in the later afternoon with people leaving the beach. A Spar supermarket next to the market. Carrefour is another couple of blocks further on, it looks a long way but isn’t. The Tourist Information Office is across the road from here. The train station another block or two, total of about 15-20minutes from the house – easy walk, even with a suitcase. There is a local bus service that operates to other towns approx 2 hourly in summer, stops close to the house or at the station. The house is fully fenced with a good gate, so safe for children. We made good use of the outside table and chards. Kitchen is well equipped, maybe if you have small children suggest you take some plastic mugs and plates. A circular staircase to the upper bedrooms and bathrooms makes the house unsuitable for wheelchairs. Bedrooms are very big with plenty of storage. I have read the other reviews which are very accurate and have tried to include different info in my review. This is a great house in a perfect location to explore La Baule. You will not be disappointed.
The house is a pretty, charming Breton abode where you will feel at home right away. It has four decent sized bedrooms, modern bathroom, kitchen, dining room and a large lounge with direct access to the secluded garden where I had breakfast and supper every day when weather permitted. It also has cable TV and wifi. It is five minutes from one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, near to the wonderful market with its local products and shops to suit all budgets, eg. espadrilles at 10 Euros! Nathalie has left a perfect guide to places of interest nearby and great addresses of the best fish restaurants in La Baule and along the coast. Whether you are with a family, friends (8 can sleep there) or alone, you cannot fail to fall under the spell of this delightful blue and white bijou.
La Baule is a beautiful, cosmopolitan seaside resort with plenty of bars and restaurants (many of which are situated on the beach itself). The world renowned spa of Centre de Thalasso-therapieThalgo La Baule is a two minute walk away from the house, as is the famous 9km long sand white beach.
There are suitable activities for all the family from the Spa to the Casino for the adults to the children's beach clubs providing a full day of fun and entertainment for the kids.
The beach is close by and beautiful but it is not all lounging around if you want to be more active: sailing, boating, tennis, horse riding, windsurfing, cycling, golf - all of these activities are easily available if you should so wish to partake in them!
There is a charming market two minute walk from the house offering the freshest seafood, succulent cheeses, fruit and vegetables - everything you would expect from a country famous for its gastronomy!
Access to La Baule is simple and easy.
Golf: Golf du Croisic. This is a 9 hole course located right on the coast following the natural contours of the land making it reminiscent of a Scottish link course.
Golf de la Bretesche. The 18 hole golf course at Domaine de la Bretesche is carved through a 100-year-old forest, and is regarded as one of the most beautiful in France. Designed by Sir Henry Cotton in the mid 1960s, the championship course reaches 6,649 yards from the back tees, and is always maintained in immaculate condition.
