About Lisa Elsey
We are Ian & Lisa Elsey and we live here at Chez Augros in Vibrac in Charente Maritime with our two daughters, Katrina and Rebecca who go to school locally. We moved here in 2005, when the farmhouse was in need of near-total renovation and we've done most of the work ourselves, and have planned everything to suit your holiday, and make it as comfortable and suited to its purpose as possible. We love this unspoilt, rural area that we live in - the roads are quiet and even the towns are fairly relaxed most of the time. The coast can get fairly busy in the summer, but it's easy to visit for a day, then escape back to our rural paradise! Lisa Elsey purchased this farmhouse in 2005

Why Lisa Elsey chose Vibrac
We chose this area because it's close to so many things to see & do - Bordeaux and Saintes are both World Heritage sites, and we're also within easy reach of the gorgeous sandy beaches of the Atlantic coast but at the same time, we're located at the edge of a sleepy village - we didn't want to be in town, but didn't want to be cut off from civilisation, either! This is the second sunniest region of France, and being sun- and water-lovers it's just perfect for us. The weather is reflected in the large swathes of sunflowers and vines which surround us each summer, and which give us a tranquil landscape we're sure you'll love too.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
We particularly love our glorious pool area - we keep the water nicely heated from early May to late September, and find that it's a delightful place to relax & unwind, even in Spring & Autumn. It's also the perfect place to cool off and take it easy after a hot day sightseeing, its views over the surrounding farmland make it a delightful place to chill out. You'll also appreciate your dedicated outside space - we find ourselves spending most of our evenings outside in the summer and it's important to us to have somewhere pleasant and private to relax.

A very well situated property with privacy at the top of the list. My wife and I were at Lisa' and Ian's gite for 14 days. The first 7 we were the only occupants and we had the pool to ourselves. Bliss. The weather wasn't brilliant so we visited alot of places Bordeaux, Saintes, St Emilion and more.... the location put this well as we were near to various places all within an hours drive. Good Jonzac market. The only criticism we have is the one bed gite needs a fly screen on the main patio door and the roof velux windows. Other than that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend Chez Augros for a relaxing holiday or sight seeing trip.
Wonderful find , superb property
An absolute gem..
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Le Chai, the owners Ian and Lisa have everything covered, the pool is superb, the location is fabulous, a truly wonderful property.
Thank you for your lovely review, we're really looking forward to welcoming you and your friends back next July
Another fantastic Holiday
We have now stayed here 3 times over the last 4 years and to us as a family it has everything we could wish for. Lisa and Ian couldn't be more helpful with anything that is asked which to us makes all the difference. The property is lovely and clean andhas everything you need, we all love the swimming pool which exspecially our 10 year old son spend most of his time in. We will definately be returnning again thank you again Lisa and Ian for making our holiday as always so lovely.
You know you're very welcome every time you visit - it's been lovely watching Finn grow up!!
See you again next year or the year after - the pool will be here waiting for you!
We enjoyed our stay.
We stayed for 10 days. The house was very pleasant, with good facilities. We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed the pool on hot days. Lisa and Ian were very helpful with advice for local shops and restaurants, and places to see. The property sits in pleasant countryside, well located for visits to the seaside or day trips as far afield as La Rochelle or Bordeaux.
We're always pleased that our guests enjoy their stay with us - we try to make everything perfect for visitors, and it feels like a job well done when we receive praise like yours - thank you so much & we look forward to your next visit.
A wonderful property in peaceful surroundings
We had a great time over the Easter weekend staying at this gite. The property was very well-equipped and nicely furnished and we enjoyed using the BBQ in the courtyard garden. Our daughter enjoyed playing in the swings and the trampoline too. There are loads of lovely places to visit in the vicinity so we had some great days out. Finally, the owner Lisa and her family were really kind and full of helpful advice.
It was lovely to meet you (and your adorable young lady!) - I'm particularly pleased you made good use of our "picks" of the best places to visit, when we visit a new place we always like to stay somewhere that the owners are accessible : there's no substitute for local knowledge!!
Excellent Gite & Friendly Hosts
This was our first visit to Lisa's Gites, the location was rural but not too far away from local amenities, so nice and quite.
The gite was nice and clean and well equipped, during our stay we viewed all of Lisa's gite which were all presented to the same high standard.
As the weather was so good during our stay we spent most of our time relaxing around the pool, which was heated making entry that must easier.
I do not know what more I can say other than we will be returning next year.
We are 45 minutes by car from the sandy beaches of the Atlantic coast at Royan & 20 minutes from a lake with sandy beach. There are small coves and beaches, as well as harbours and caves that can be visited all along the coast of the Atlantic and the Gironde Estuary.
The nearest bakery is a few minutes from here, and the nearest supermarket is less than 10 minutes away.
The pretty town of Jonzac is 15 mins from us.
Cognac and Saintes (with its Roman amphitheatre) are 45 mins away as is the coast. La Rochelle is 90 mins away. Bordeaux is 50 mins away, & the vineyards of St Emilion and Brantôme in the Dordogne are less than 1.5 hours away (all times are by car).
The local market town of Jonzac, has a full range of shops, banks and supermarkets & swimming complex with a water slide, tropical lagoon, wavepool, bubble spas and saunas.
There is an excellent choice of restaurants within 15 minutes drive.
Between them, the local towns of Jonzac and Montendre hold fresh markets four days a week, and in summer there is a market somewhere near us, every day of the week - including Sundays.
In our local village is a heated open-air pool, with separate shallow bath for little 'uns. It is set in a small wooded area on the edge of the village, and enjoys glorious views of the surrounding countryside.
This area has an excellent sunshine record and has similar weather to the south east coast of France. Outside of the main June, July, August and September holiday periods it can be very pleasant, warm and surprisingly sunny. Because of this, many of the adult attractions are open at least from Easter to the end of October, if not all year round. There are so many things to see and do, it would be impossible to list them all, however if you have a particular interest in architecture, fishing, horse-riding, museums, food, cognac, or anything else, please let us know, and we can provide you with guidance and information to help you plan your holiday if you'd like. Alternatively, if you simply want to relax and breathe in the clean air of French countryside, then you can do so in great comfort.
