Channel view is an extended Coastguard cottage originally dating from the 1800s. It is one of the few properties on the Gower Peninsula that has direct sea views yet is within walking distance of a sandy beach. Not only that, but the view is one of the best in Gower (itself Britain's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) with an almost 180 degree vista across the Bristol Channel, taking in the magical Worm's Head and Lundy Island, with the North Devon coast beyond. And if that is not enough, the local beach (Rhossili), accessed down steps that are less than 5 minuted from the property, has been voted one of the top 10 in the World, with over 3 miles of sand and surf. There is also a relatively flat walk to the headland that takes in even more of the spectacular scenery and is a mecca for walkers, photographers and wildlife enthusiasts (you may well spot dolphins and seals just off the coast, as well as a huge range of birdlife). The village has everything that you need, including a traditional pub, cafes, restaurants and a shop, yet is completely unspoilt, having changed little for over 100 years. It is only around 35 minutes from the M4 at Swansea yet feels like an oasis of natural beauty: A great place to recharge your batteries, yet with plenty to keep children and the more adventurous very happy.
The property has 3 upstairs bedrooms, one with an en suite (including bath), a full bathroom, and a separate shower. Downstairs there is a large kitchen, a dining room (both with great views) and a separate sitting room. This is adjacent to a games rom with compact table tennis and pool. There is also a utility room and toilet. At the rear is a self-contained and easily accessible annex that has a bedroom sleeping 2, a kitchen/breakfast room and a bathroom with shower. This has large patio doors opening on to a courtyard with sea views beyond.
The 2 bedrooms at the front of the main house have sea views from the beds - one of the pictures attached shows the sunrise view from the main bedroom. There are also direct sea views from the kitchen and dining rooms.
We welcome dogs (it would be a shame not to, as Rhossili beach has consistently been voted the best dog friendly beach in the UK, and our German Shepherd loves her visits there), but do insist that they are not given access to the upstairs (there is a stair gate to make this easy to manage), or allowed to jump on the furniture. This is to keep the property in pristine condition and be as welcoming to those without dogs as those who bring four legged friends with them.
The main annex and house are both self-contained but do interconnect, ideal for groups that like some of their own space. The main house sleeps 6 + a cot if required (2 double beds, 2 singles), and the annex sleeps 2 (1 double). Both have sea views and access to the courtyard with seating and a a barbecue area. There is parking for 4-5 cars, with the drive accessed through the National Trust car park so it is easy to get in and out.
The previous owners (Dave and Honor) had the property for over 20 years and in that time it has been a family home, then renowned bed and breakfast and more recently a highly successful holiday let. We (Jeremy and Elizabeth) have now taken on the privilege of looking after Channel View for the next 20 years and will gradually be putting some of our personality into the decor and furniture. New carpets were installed in January 18 along with new beds.
Elizabeth grew up close to the Gower and has great memories of time spent there as a child. We spend as much time as we can at the property but love the fact that we can help make the joys of Rhossili accessible to as wide a range of people as possible.
Elizabeth and I look forward to hearing about your holiday at Channel View, whether it is your first experience of body boarding, the wildlife you have seen, the joy of complete relaxation whilst looking over the views, the family memories you have made or the wildlife you have seen.
The prices listed are for the whole space. We may be able to do you a deal on longer bookings, or those that infill space.
