About the property

4 bed, 4 bathroom house with stunning sea views and easy beach / village access

Channel view is an extended Coastguard cottage originally dating from the 1800s. It is one of the few properties on the Gower Peninsula that has direct sea views yet is within walking distance of a sandy beach. Not only that, but the view is one of the best in Gower (itself Britain's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) with an almost 180 degree vista across the Bristol Channel, taking in the magical Worm's Head and Lundy Island, with the North Devon coast beyond. And if that is not enough, the local beach (Rhossili), accessed down steps that are less than 5 minuted from the property, has been voted one of the top 10 in the World, with over 3 miles of sand and surf. There is also a relatively flat walk to the headland that takes in even more of the spectacular scenery and is a mecca for walkers, photographers and wildlife enthusiasts (you may well spot dolphins and seals just off the coast, as well as a huge range of birdlife). The village has everything that you need, including a traditional pub, cafes, restaurants and a shop, yet is completely unspoilt, having changed little for over 100 years. It is only around 35 minutes from the M4 at Swansea yet feels like an oasis of natural beauty: A great place to recharge your batteries, yet with plenty to keep children and the more adventurous very happy.

The property has 3 upstairs bedrooms, one with an en suite (including bath), a full bathroom, and a separate shower. Downstairs there is a large kitchen, a dining room (both with great views) and a separate sitting room. This is adjacent to a games rom with compact table tennis and pool. There is also a utility room and toilet. At the rear is a self-contained and easily accessible annex that has a bedroom sleeping 2, a kitchen/breakfast room and a bathroom with shower. This has large patio doors opening on to a courtyard with sea views beyond.

The 2 bedrooms at the front of the main house have sea views from the beds - one of the pictures attached shows the sunrise view from the main bedroom. There are also direct sea views from the kitchen and dining rooms.

We welcome dogs (it would be a shame not to, as Rhossili beach has consistently been voted the best dog friendly beach in the UK, and our German Shepherd loves her visits there), but do insist that they are not given access to the upstairs (there is a stair gate to make this easy to manage), or allowed to jump on the furniture. This is to keep the property in pristine condition and be as welcoming to those without dogs as those who bring four legged friends with them.

The main annex and house are both self-contained but do interconnect, ideal for groups that like some of their own space. The main house sleeps 6 + a cot if required (2 double beds, 2 singles), and the annex sleeps 2 (1 double). Both have sea views and access to the courtyard with seating and a a barbecue area. There is parking for 4-5 cars, with the drive accessed through the National Trust car park so it is easy to get in and out.

The previous owners (Dave and Honor) had the property for over 20 years and in that time it has been a family home, then renowned bed and breakfast and more recently a highly successful holiday let. We (Jeremy and Elizabeth) have now taken on the privilege of looking after Channel View for the next 20 years and will gradually be putting some of our personality into the decor and furniture. New carpets were installed in January 18 along with new beds.

Elizabeth grew up close to the Gower and has great memories of time spent there as a child. We spend as much time as we can at the property but love the fact that we can help make the joys of Rhossili accessible to as wide a range of people as possible.

Elizabeth and I look forward to hearing about your holiday at Channel View, whether it is your first experience of body boarding, the wildlife you have seen, the joy of complete relaxation whilst looking over the views, the family memories you have made or the wildlife you have seen.

The prices listed are for the whole space. We may be able to do you a deal on longer bookings, or those that infill space.

About Jeremy and Elizabeth

We (Jeremy and Elizabeth) purchased Channel View (or, to be more accurate, took on the honour of looking after the property for the next generation) in 2017, taking over from Honor and Dave who had owned the property for over 20 years (in turn, taking over from the previous owners who also had the property for many years). It is the sort of place that you don't want to leave! Elizabeth grew up close to the Gower and has fond memories of her childhood playing on the beaches and walking the coastline. It has been the realisation of a dream to be able to own Channel View. Work (in London and Cornwall) keeps us away more than we would like at the moment, but we love the time that we are able to spend at Rhossili. We have a German Shepherd, Bailey who always barks as we approach Rhossili as she knows that she is in for lots of walks on the beach and the headland.

We are sure that our guests will love the property as much as we do and we look forward to welcoming repeat guests.

Why Jeremy and Elizabeth chose Rhossili

Channel view is almost unique on the Gower in having great views but also easy access to the beach and amenities. It is flexible enough to able to accommodate a party of 2 in the self contained annex, to a group of 8 using the whole property. Anyone who has visited The Gower will know what a very special place that it is. Featured heavily on the BBC's "Coast" program, it was the UK's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, combining rugged coastline, rolling hills, and fantastic beaches with safe bathing and surfing. Rhossili is the jewel in the Gower crown, its 3 mile sandy beach being voted one of the World's top 10. It has also been voted one of the best sunset sites in the UK, and the property is ideally situated to enjoy all of this - the house has panoramic views over the sea, including the iconic Worm's Head rock formation (named by the Vikings, who thought it was a huge serpent guarding the shore), and is within a few minutes walk of all of the village amenities and the beach, as well as having direct access to the National Trust maintained headland.

What makes this house unique

If you want a place where there is something for guests of all ages (including 4 legged friends), with plenty of space (including 4 toilets and shower rooms!), an incredible beach (including great surfing or body boarding), direct access to long (and level) cliff top walks, a great local pub, and views that dreams are made of, then look no further!

Great property in a stunning location! Perfect for all ages... and their dog!

  • 5 of 5

We booked Channel View for a Christmas break with our children, grandchildren and the family dogs! We are so glad we did!! From the first enquiry through to the end of the holiday, Jeremy and Elizabeth, the owners, couldn't have been more pleasant or helpful to deal with. They provided all information we could have needed and contact details if we needed them. They even had a Christmas tree at the property! As for the property - fantastic!! Very clean and well appointed with everything you need to make it a real home from home. Plenty of room for us all to be together or to find some space. The games room was a great addition and being Christmas we watched lots of films on Sky. The enclosed garden at the back meant that the dogs (even a small Terrier) were able to run around safely without the worry of them getting out. The bedrooms had plenty of room and the beds were lovely and comfortable. As for the location - WOW!! The views from the front and side of the property were just stunning! Rossili Beach is about a 5 minute walk from the property via a fairly easy walk down a not too steep cliff path. The beach is huge and big enough to find your own space and it's dog friendly. There is also a lovely flat coastal path going in the opposite direction to Worm's Head and that took in some truly amazing views... and a few sheep!

There are a couple of cafe's and a hotel with restaurant and bar but the nearest shop is a couple of minutes drive away with another about 10 minutes away where you can get the basics. If you are planning on eating in a lot, try to take as many provisions with you as you can because the nearest supermarket is about 40 minutes away. We new this and took lots with us so it wasn't a problem at all.

I wouldn't hesitate recommending this property and we hope to go back very soon! Thank you Jeremy and Elizabeth!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to submit such a lovely review. Glad you liked the tree (we knew you were coming with children and wanted it to look festive). Thank you also for looking after the property so well. As you know, we are relatively new to hosting and are working hard to make sure that our guests have a great stay. Our reviews (we also book through another agency) have so far all been 5 star and we want to keep it that way. The location gives us a head start, but we always want to put ourselves in the shoes of our guests. You and your family would be welcome back anytime. Regards Jeremy and Elizabeth
