Description

Dairy Cottage

This unique cottage was originally part of the famous Stanwick Hall, residence of the Duchess of Northumberland. No expense has been spared in this recent conversion of old stone buildings into a beautiful single-storey hideaway. Hardwood floors, underfloor heating, a cosy log burner, handmade doors, a luxurious walk-in shower room tiled in Jerusalem limestone and a bespoke, well-equipped kitchen all combine to make a comfortable and romantic home from home. Impressive arched double doors from the bedroom and lounge and bi-fold doors from the kitchen lead out into the south facing gardens that overlook landscaped parkland. The spacious lounge is flooded with light from a large roof atrium and arched doors lead out from here to a secluded, south-facing patio with ancient parkland views and sounds of nature all around. Whilst retaining its old world charm, the Old Dairy is equipped with a high-end hi-fi, large plasma TV, bespoke furniture and every modern convenience for your comfort.

About the property

Coach House & Dairy Cottage

Luxurious living, steeped in history: Dating from 1820 and fully renovated in 2000 and 2012, the Coach House and the Dairy Cottage were originally part of Stanwick Hall, the home of the Duchess of Northumberland. The Coach House and Dairy Cottage both enjoy great privacy and their own gardens, but can also be combined to form elegant and spacious accommodation for up to 13 guests in great comfort.

Details for the Coach House

This luxurious Yorkshire Dales country house has 4 comfortable bedrooms, a large, well-equipped kitchen with Aga, spacious lounge with log burner leading into a beautiful conservatory overlooking south-facing, private gardens. Please click on the link below for more details.

Details for the Dairy Cottage

Converted in 2012, this architect-designed delightful hideaway is all on one level and has its own large garden. The large living area (8m x 5m) is open-plan, with a dining area at one end and a well equipped kitchen leading off. There is a lovely log burner, a large roof atrium and wide arched glass doors leading into the gardens. Leading off the lounge is a spacious bedroom, again with hand-made double arched glass doors opening onto private south-facing gardens.Dairy Cottage is flooded with light whatever the weather and the use high quality natural materials throughout - oak floors and hand-made doors, Jerusalem stone in the shower room and a solid wood kitchen - create a calm and peaceful environment for relaxation.

Environmental sustainability was important to us when we designed this conversion, as was the need to stay true to the original building and re-use as much of the original stone and other materials as possible, so the Dairy Cottage has underfloor heating supplied by a wood-pellet boiler to keep it cozy and warm in the winter months.

Further details about the Coach House

Guestbook comments from the owner

We booked to stay in the Dairy cottage for 2 nights at very short notice, Everything was sorted out for us very quickly & smoothly. we had looked at 20+ properties in the region and this one seemed to stand out, And we were not disappointed with our choice. We found the cottage quite easily from the instructions we were given, and we were greeted by Paul, who was very friendly and very helpful , and showed us around the property as well as the coach house property, Both were very very well equipped with very modern appliances. The dairy cottage cottage we stayed in was spotless, it had a lot of glass and it was all perfectly clean.

the property really exceeded our expectations, especially things like utensils, pots & pans, everything we needed was there and was of very good quality. The bed was huge and very comfortable, and the shower was amazing.

The only down point of our stay was that our broadband/telephone line was off for the whole stay, which stopped me doing a few bits of work that I had to do, but this was a BT problem and in no way the owners Fault, and it was actually quite nice to have no contact with anyone for a couple of days.

I can not recommend this property enough, it was a truly amazing experience and really relaxing, top marks to everyone involved with the running of it

Smart and well thought out

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I used the Dairy Cottage as our base for a holiday in Teesdale and the Yorkshire Dales, and we found it to be very smart and well thought out accommodation.

It has been renovated to preserve the original interest of the dairy cottage building, but is full of contemporary touches, such as the sky window in the atrium area, arched bay windows and modern bathroom.

During the day, it is full of sunlight and opens out wonderfully onto private gardens. During the evening, it feels very private and in touch with its surroundings - the location means the night skies are excellent, and there is a wood burner which I found easy to use.

Comfortable beds, modern kitchen and good personal touches such as the reading and reference material available.

Definitely useful as a private haven when travelling in a large group staying in both the Coach House and Dairy Cottage.

Excellent stay - will definitely use again.

Romantic break

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay here, and can't wait to book again! This romantic barn conversion is spacious with lots of light and brilliant underfloor heating. It is in a great location which is quiet and peaceful, but also not far from various lovely places to visit and a great base to explore the Yorkshire dales and Teesdale too. The kitchen is well equipped and the shower is great. The bed is so comfortable and in the mornings we drew the curtains to look out onto the private garden. Is was romantic bliss! Thanks again - we'll see you again soon.

This was just what we were looking for, in the countryside, peaceful, quiet and full of light. We enjoyed the gardens and the horses in the pasture. The cottage is spacious and comfortable. Simon, Kay and Mark were helpful and accommodating. Loved it.

A tranquil and relaxing retreat

  • 5 of 5

Dairy Cottage proved an ideal location for exploring the towns and countryside of North Yorkshire. we valued the privacy of the house and garden and the tranquillity of Stanwick St John. It is good to find a good quality cottage that will accept dogs. Thanks you. we appreciated the touch of a box of chocolates awaiting our arrival.

Second visit to Dairy Cottage loved it as much as the first time .If you want a lovely place to chill out from the moment you arrive you couldn't find a nicer place .Walks from your door step. The dog loved the freedom on being able to wander around the garden with all doors wide open .Used the fire this time very cosy curled up with a bottle of wine and chocolates after a great meal .Visit the farm shop on the A66 for all you needs meat, veg,and special treats .

Will definitely be coming again . David and Jeanette Bradford West Yorkshire
