The perfect location for a relaxing break in the countryside, with nearby beaches.
A beautifully refurbished stone cottage tucked away in glorious countryside, which has everything you need for a relaxing break. Gail and Simon are very welcoming and nearby should you need anything (including a bag of flour for cooking!) Lots of lovely little touches to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Daisy doodle just loved the freedom of the recreational field adjacent to the property, definitely a dogs dream come true 🐶💗 Tip: If it is likely to be wet/have morning dew, take some outdoor shoes/short wellies to leave outside if the grass in the field has been cut 👍
Absolutely gorgeous little cottage, like home from home
Simon and Gail are the perfect hosts. Very thoughtful and helpful. The cottage is so clean (I’m very particular) and I’d give it 5* all day long. The Hollies has everything you’d need for a break away. It’s like a home from home. Will definitely want to stay again and would highly recommend it to everyone.
Thanks very much for your lovely review; we're delighted you enjoyed your stay. We'd love to see you back here another time.
Perfect in every way!
Hollies Cottage is as stunning on the inside as it is on the out. Everything has been considered to make a stay at Caerkief simply perfect. The location is ideal as it is central to all areas of interest, within a reasonable travelling distance. The surrounding area is so pretty with so many lovely walks to take. The garden area and play/beach equipment that is available to guests is fab. There is something for everyone to enjoy! The hosts, Gail and Simon are brilliant - nothing is too much trouble and they are so genuinely friendly and accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed a relaxed week of quality family time whilst staying at Hollies Cottage, and would highly recommend it to anyone with no hesitation. We will certainly be returning in the future!
Thank you so much for your lovely review & we hope to see you again.
Wonderful rural cottage
We had a lovely week despite being snowed in for 2 days! The garden and field are perfect for dogs (although it should be noted that they're not allowed in the bedroom or on furniture indoors - this is the same as many other properties of course, but it's still good to know beforehand), and the walks nearby, as well as the many beaches, were just what our lively collie needed. The approach road up to the cottages is really a farm track, it's steep, very narrow, and quite rough in places - nothing that a normal car with decent suspension can't handle, but I wouldn't want to drive anything especially wide, delicate or expensive up there, and it was a bit hair-raising in the snow! But this remoteness is all part of the charm of this beautiful property - we loved feeling so off the beaten track but only 3 miles from the nearest beach. The local village, Goonhavern, is a few minutes by car or about half an hour on foot, and has a great Londis shop which stocks all the essentials, as well as being a post office and also selling hot food, and the New Inn is a lovely pub which welcomes many dogs and is extremely friendly. The nearest supermarkets are less than 15 minutes drive away, so the location really is spot on. The cottage is very comfortable (although the couch is a futon serving as a spare bed if needed, so not the comfiest if you spend long evenings in), spotlessly clean, warm and welcoming, and supplied with everything you could need. The information pack provided by the owners is extremely useful, including lots of local tips for eating out and walking, and instructions are supplied for every appliance. The furnishings and decor are beautiful, in a rustic style, and with plenty of bedroom and bathroom storage. The heating is easy to operate, the TV and FreeSat worked fine, the WiFi was decent (quite unusual in many countryside locations) and we got good phone reception. And the owners are lovely! Gail and Simon greeted us on arrival, gave us lots of useful advice, and then left us alone to relax for the week - we couldn't have asked for better hosts. The only things we could think of to improve it at all would be somewhere to put wet/muddy/sandy shoes when you come in (obviously in dry weather you could leave them on the balcony, but we ended up with a towel by the door to protect the floor), and maybe a net curtain for the ground-floor bedroom window to allow privacy and daylight together. Otherwise, absolutely perfect!
Thanks for your 5 star review - we're delighted that you enjoyed your stay. Happily the snow didn't spoil your holiday!
A well equipped cottage in a beautiful and tranquil location; a perfect base to explore Cornwall.
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday from the minute we arrived at this stunning cottage. It is cleverly designed to make the most of the space and it is beautifully appointed. It has everything you could possibly need.
It is ideally located to explore the dramatic scenery in Cornwall, whilst offering a peaceful, private retreat. The balcony is a fantastic place to sit and relax (and enjoy a glass of wine) whilst the outside space is very generous and lends itself perfectly for energetic family fun.
Gail and Simon offered the warmest of welcomes, and did everything they could to ensure we had a fabulous stay. The welcome pack was extremely thoughtful and the information provided was thorough. Thank you for everything. We loved it, and will be back!
