Originally a nineteenth century village school ‘La Petite Ecole’ is an ideal opportunity for a single family or a small group of friends to have exclusive use of a beautiful, spacious chalet with bags of character and a high quality finish. It can be booked on a self-catered basis.

Situated 150 metres from the La Roche chairlift and pistes it’s just a short stroll for you to access the huge Paradiski area of La Plagne and Les Arcs. A separate shared ski room with boot warmers assures you of a dry comfortable start to the day.

The chalet sleeps 6 people comfortably in 3 bedrooms; one double, one twin and a bunk room that sleeps 2 in adult size beds. There are 2 bathrooms, both with WCs and one with a jacuzzi bath to ease any aches and pains after a hard days skiing. Quality white linen and towels are provided and an extra bed can be added on request to accommodate a seventh guest in the living area.

La Petite Ecole has a large sociable open plan living and dining area with vaulted ceilings situated on the first floor allowing you to take in the stunning views. There are comfortable sofas, a log burning stove with a generous supply of logs and kindling provided and for entertainment there is a selection of games, DVDs, a Nintendo Wii with Wii Fit and a large plasma screen with satellite TV.

A well equipped kitchen with a dishwasher means stress free cooking for guests choosing self-cater.

There is underfloor heating throughout, free Wifi and ample free parking directly in front of the chalet.

Having lived in La Roche and run catered holidays ourselves for 7 years we are able to advise you on all aspects of your stay and put you in touch with useful contacts.

Great location although a car definitely required. Stairs in chalet very steep so would be wary of

Location of Chalet easy to find.

Excellent facilities within chalet.

Would recommend some nice blankets in lounge to snuggle under at night.

Need a car if staying at this location as no shops nearby.

Be mindful supermarket in the valley closed at 12 on a Sunday.

Really super place

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week at New Year in Petite Ecole. We were lucky because there was tons of snow, although it rained a bit in the middle of the week. Having been very delayed by traffic (10 hours from Grenoble) we missed out on doing a shop so relied on the Spar at Plagne 2000, which is very good. Our routine was to ski, get back to Plagne 2000 at the end of the day, have a drink, then shop at Spar and ski with rucksack and headtorches back down to La Roche, which was a daily highlight. If there had been no snow we could have taken the bus, or you can catch the last chairlift down at around 4.30pm.

The house has a very spacious living area, which is ideal, on the first floor. On the ground floor there is a downstairs bedroom and bathroom, on the top floor there are 2 compact bedrooms and a bathroom. Total area is about 105 sqm if you include the shared boot room.

Overall we would highly recommend Petite Ecole!

Good place in La Roche

  • 4 of 5

This is nicely equipped apartment within a larger building of 3 units total (it seems to occupy about 1/3 of the building you see in the photo). It has nice contemporary finishes and fixtures without losing the natural feeling of being in the Alps. There are many thoughtful design touches - a ski room with boot heater, a wet area when you walk in on ground floor, a wonderful firebox. The layout however is not the most convenient - it's 3 stories, so you're up and down a lot. There is not a bathroom on the main floor where you'll spend time cooking, eating and relaxing, so there's more up and down. The upper floor bathroom is designed so that you can't use the mirror to shave, floss, etc without stooping down or sitting on the toilet due to the roof slope. And the upper bathroom only has a tub, so you can't grab a quick shower unless you go two floors down (you're always filling a tub). It has a spray wand, so if you're idea of a shower is laying down under a hose, you're fine. We stayed a week and at first these issues were no problem but by the end they were tedious. The village of La Roche is very small - just a few buildings, a restaurant, ski shop and lift to the mountain (and the '92 Olympic Bobsled run). If you typically cook most of your meals, it may be enough (the kitchen is well equipped). But it's a pretty limited set up if you need anything else - groceries, more restaurants, retail, etc. On the plus side it's much more quiet than the villages around it (Plange Bellecote, etc). But you should know what you're getting into if you stay here - we ended up cooking more than expected because of this. The hosts are responsive, the apartment was clean and it's well cared for. We were provided with adequate supplies of some items like loo paper and firewood, but we had to resupply trash bags, dishwasher soap - things that should probably be in more than adequate supply. Overall, it was a very nice stay.
