The owner is a University of N.H. and Standford University, CA trained engineer and pilot, who's built his own plane.
He grew up on a farm in southern N.H. and, surprisingly, still enjoys gardening. However, he regrets to report that Nellie the deer harvested more vegetables than he did last year at 241 Trask Side Road; they are in competition with the turkeys and bear, but seem more friendly.
Bill cleared this land, and built most of this structure. He had assistance from nephews, who found the construction of the fireplace thrilling -- especially at the roof level.
Willliam E. French purchased this lodge in 1989
Best deal on the lake! Spectacular views and visually pleasing, comfortable quarters make your stay memorable.
Flat, level property makes the home and waterfront easily accessible for adults and children. Wonderful views of lake and mountains, and brilliant sunsets over the saddleback of Gunstock Mountain.
Double-insulated, the first floor bedroom (located next to the half bath) is quiet and convenient to reach for elderly guests or those with limited mobility.
Home faces west, for late day sun and spectacular sunsets.
Where else can winter visitors watch planes land on an ice runway? Folks come from far away for winter carnival or just to take in the atmosphere of the unique village of ice-fishing bob huts.
Located in a snow belt, the Gunstock Ski Area is a 30-min. drive away. In summer, Gunstock operates a popular zip line.
There is no access to the water from the beach!. Please be aware! I have lots of issues with my legs and ankles and it looked like this would allow me to walk directly into the water. If you look at his pictures of the beach there are no rocks in front of beach water access, when we got there we see a huge rock wall right in front of the beach. There was no way to access water unless I sat on dock and dropped in 2 feet. There is also no access to get out of the water. The ladder at the end of the dock is so high no one could reach it from the water. We ended up using a ladder that was on the side of the house against the dock so we could get out which was very dangerous. Because of my ankels I had to roll my self onto the dock to get out! When we arrived, the owners wife was cleaning the unit, we waited 45 min to get into the property. We were told check in was 2:00. She then informed me that her husband would be coming by later and would be spending the night in the apartment over the garage "in case we needed anything" . We thought that was very bizarre and felt that they were checking up on us. That night a rain storm came through and the windows that are not accessible on the roof line started leaking. I called the owner several times and emailed him as well. We had no response. After about an hour his son showed up at the property and said he was going to change his clothes and then come see how to shut the windows. He never came back.
The house has the capacity to sleep 12, we initially told him 5 of us were coming, a week before we told him 3 people were going to visit for 2 nights, He actually charged us additionally $!! After we paid alot for this house! The last and final item that ruined our trip was the deposit return. He took $50.00 from our deposit for "debris" Even though this is a small amount we feel he nickle and dimed us. He said he spent a half hour cleaning the yard from dog waste and cig butts. We had cleaned that property from top to bottom, there was no way he could have spent 1/2 hour looking for cig butts. He also charged us 1/2 for debris in the house. We ran the dishwasher when we left, he charged us for dishes in the dishwasher. The review from the previous renter had us hyper aware of our trash, we diligently separated trash for a whole week, put them in big black bags, He said the dump rejected 6 bags of recycle because they were mixed. Beware of this cheap owner who lies in his ad!
The house is in pretty good shape and does have a flat back yard which is great for frisbee, soccer, etc. The bedrooms are in good shape with the exception of the basement bedroom which has that basement smell. Overall the house is a decent value, but I would not recommend it due to problems getting a security deposit back. The lease says you will get your deposit back within 21 days. After 21 days I contacted the owner and was told it would be sent shortly. At 5 weeks I again contacted the owner and was told it will be sent shortly. At 6 weeks I again contacted the owner and was told he is sending it, but not the full amount because he had to separate some recyclables from the trash and damage to the dock. There was no damage to the dock that I know of. I got no response when I asked for more information or receipt when I got my partial deposit back. Overall this leaves a very sour end to a vacation and I would recommend future renters to beware. I have rented houses numerous times through VRBO and Homeaway and have never had a problem like this.
The owners keep this spacious home in very good condition. Very quiet area. The yard is tidy and perfect for kids to play. Large porch provides incredible views all day and night. Best feature by far is the doc and sandy bottom swimming area. I suggest families bring plenty of items to play with in the water and consider renting a boat or jet ski to take full advantage.
We had a wonderful time! This is a beautiful home on the Lake with wonderful views and sunsets; great swimming and sunning also. A hard to find classic NH lakehome, spacious and well maintained. It was the best deal going and we plan to return again, THANKS!
