About Martyn Wheatley

Friendly,professional, mature guy,well travelled,love food,wine, animal charities, and life!

Martyn Wheatley purchased this house in 2006

Why Martyn Wheatley chose Atlantic Coast Morocco

For many years we wanted to tour Morocco, but the price of flights and accommodation proved to be over our budget.

Then the King of Morocco opened up the 'sky' to cheap flight operators, and Travelrepublic offered accommodation deals. In September 2006 we embarked on a three week tour of Morocco, and the thought of a holiday home abroad had been on our minds for many years.

During our visit to Morocco, viewing many properties for sale,we spent a wonderful week in Essaouira.

Living in coastal Wales, enjoying friendly country life,we wanted a home 'far from the maddening crowd'

Our brief to our friend and agent was to find us a traditional, country house, in the Berber village of Ghazoua.

Without viewing the property , we purchased the house, expecting a few rentals per year.

Our home is your home, and our friends are your friends, enjoy.

What makes this house unique

For a taste of the 'real Morocco' this is good as it gets.

Wonderful country village location, neighbours, environment, and much more.

Essaouira airport is only 5 miles from the house.Easyjet,London Luton-Essaouira.

Relaxation in a rustic and rural gem

  • 4 of 5

Had a wonderful stay with 2 adults and 2 teenagers. You feel part of a small and friendly community, experiencing the sights, sounds and smells of a little Moroccan village. The house is lovely and as described. One tiny issue was that the kettle didn't switch off and got extremely hot on the outside. Said was very helpful. The pool at Domaines Arganeraie was fantastic and they agreed a lower price for several visits. An electric fan in both bedrooms for mid-August would be great although it wasn't too bad. Spent two incredible days at Sidi Kaouki which we preferred to Essaouira main beach. Thank you for a great stay.

A taste of the real Morocco

  • 4 of 5

This was a first for us. We have always done the package hotels and were tired of the same thing. The freedom and flexibility you have from staying in a villa like Tazmin is a wonderful experience. From the moment we arrived off the plane we were transferred to the villa which is only 10 minutes drive. We arranged this through Martyn and Siad ( who manages the property). Said was at the villa waiting for us with a smile. He took us in and showed us around, told us all about the location and where to go. First day there we decided to explore the area which is quite off the beaten track, so to speak but surrounded by nature and animals! You'll find dogs, donkey's, cows, cats and chickens wherever you go. We discovered a hotel nearby called the Domaine De L'Arganeraie we went to the reception and enquired about using the pool, they were very accommodating and we bought 10 entries for 600 dirhams (60€) there is a lovely big pool and bar serving food. My son aged 8 loved it here and made many French friends! Trips to Essauoira were fun and exciting, we walked back up to the main road and caught the bus into town which is very cheap 5 dirhams each, it can be a squish so be prepared to stand and hold on tight (all part of the fun) the medina is magical, and will take 3-4 visits before you discover every nook and cranny! Haggling is a must and part of the culture so do not be afraid of telling the seller exactly what you would be prepared to pay, if you can't agree on a price start to walk away and I'll guarantee they will call you back with a better deal. The villa Tazmin itself was very pleasant and had everything we needed, I liked the sun terrace and the homely feel it had, it's a happy place. We did have the odd power cut, but there is a lot of developing going on in the area and it wasn't off for very long. There was also a problem with the water which is pumped from a natural well, but I cannot complain as Siad was there straight away with a plumber, unfortunately it couldn't be resolved (it was our last night) so Martyn and Siad arranged for alternative accommodation for us free of charge, which was extremely kind, and we were very grateful. It did not spoil our holiday at all, it was all part of our adventure! The camel ride is a must and we dared to have a hammam which is an open public bath (male/female separate) not for the shy or reserved! Finally I would like to thank Siad for taking such care of us, and Martyn for sharing his villa with us.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your comments, and understanding regarding the water situation, now resolved, and was caused by the low water table levels in Ghazoua .Hopefully you enjoyed your holiday, with memories to share forever, and please visit magical Morocco, and mystical Essaouira soon, warmest regards, Said & Martyn

3 females holidaying alone

  • 5 of 5

A long weekend in May this year with my 16 year old son and two workmates.

The apartment is a short, 20 minute drive from the airport and transport was arranged for us. Travelling around the area is easy with a choice of buses and taxis,

The apartment was clean and well equipped just a short walk from the local shops where we bought our breakfast supplies on a daily basis. We ate our main meals at local restaurants and enjoyed the various foods from street vendors. The street vendors, shops and stalls sold all sorts of things although bartering is a must. We bought clothing, presents and supplies of spices. The local people were all extremely friendly and helpful.

One of the highlights of our stay was the camel riding expedition. Good fun and value for money.

The weather was hot during the day and cooled off quickly in the evening, the breeze was constant but needed,

Had such a great time we have booked again for a return visit in November. Cheap flights, good accomodation and we felt safe and comfortable for the whole of our stay

A very special heartwarming holiday

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Villa Tamzin with our 3 children and had a very memorable holiday. The house was really a home from home, in a quiet, peaceful friendly village with lovely neighbours and patient shopkeepers! It was a true taste of Moroccan village life. The house is spacious, well equipped, perfect for relaxing after being in Essaouria, and the roof terrace was very well loved by our children. We used the nearby pool at Dar Etto for a small fee and enjoyed the local bus ride into town. We were sad to leave and hope to return one day. Thanks Martyn and Said.

It's time to dance :)

  • 5 of 5

My second visit in lovely villa Tazmin . This place is just magnifique. House is spacious, plenty of room for dancing in rhythm of Moroccan music :) Weather was still quiet hot, during the day up to 30C but nights a bit cold, 6C but thanxs to Said we weren't cold. He brought some wood and we could enjoy fireplace I could only dream of before. This villa is in very good condition in comparison with some riads in old Medina in which you can experience dampness during the winter months. But the thing is that overall experience is not only about the house but also about the people you are sharing with.

just what we needed....perfect!

  • 5 of 5

This house makes the perfect base from which to explore this part of a beautiful country....spacious, quirky and clean. The neighbours were very friendly and the children were great. The roof terrace was a delight (both morning coffee drinking and evening star-gazing). Comfy beds, well-equipped kitchen....what more could you need....?

Many thanks Martyn for letting us stay.

Regards Bev & Sandy
