Nice place. Not up to par considering the price
The house is a great size. We were disappointed with the ovens not working well and a few items (plumbing etc) not working well. It’s quite remote.
Lovely part of the world though. Some stunning views.
Thank you for your review; we were however both surprised and disappointed on reading it, especially as it contradicts feedback from previous guests. You phoned us twice, firstly on the Sunday to ask how to switch the TV on and secondly on the Monday to report an apparent fault on the ovens; we explained that the oven fan on occasion restarts. This is a cooling mechanism to allay latent heat. The ovens work perfectly. Nothing else was brought to our attention.
You did not mention the fact that you had damaged 2 newly installed Roman blinds, tested the previous week. It is clearly stated in the Rental Contract that any damages must be reported immediately so that a repair can be effected prior to new guests arriving. We can only assume that this review is motivated by the fact that we will be obliged to make an appropriate deduction for the costs of repair.
The location of the house is clearly identified on the website and map prior to making the booking; the fact that it is rural and yet within 1.5 miles of Salcombe town centre and 0.9 mile from a pristine coastline and beach is usually regarded as a great benefit!
Set in the quiet hamlet of Holset, this property offers an ideal getaway location offering both rural charm and tranquility plus access to stunning sandy beaches and shopping; choose from a relaxing day at the beach or sailing on the water, country walks or a visit to the bustling centres of Salcombe, Kingsbridge or Dartmouth. Scenic local gastro-pubs include The Millbrook at picturesque South Pool, the Tower Inn at Slapton, The Tradesman's Arms at Stokenham and Britannia on the beach for the freshest fish - at Beesands. Go on a delightful walk to Start Point lighthouse, with stunning sea views or enjoy hiking for miles along the south west coast path. Kingsbridge offers all the amenities of a vibrant market town, including a leisure centre, cinema, tennis and sports clubs and supermarkets (Morrisons and Tescos) plus a farmer's market and selection of independent shops. Not to be missed is the charming ferry ride over to bustling, trendy Salcombe - and lunch at Overbecks National Trust garden is a must - stunning estuary views. Visit Bantham beach for excellent surfing - lessons available - or Blackpool Sands for a lazy day on a glorious beach. Come and see this beautiful area for yourself - you will not want to leave.
