In the New Forest National Park, Idylic location, Sleeps 6
Sara and I have three Children and were on a mission to find the best place in the UK to raise a family, that suited our active, outdoors life style. After years of research across every part of the UK we 'discovered' the New Forest and found one of the most special places in the world to live. Ancient forests, endless tracks, stunning beaches an abundance of wildlife, wonderful people and a National Park that wraps itself around you - stay a few days and you won't want to leave!
Why Craig chose Lymington
Woodcutters Cottage is a 300 year old traditional Wheat Reed thatched cottage that is in the process of being fully restored by it’s current owners. The property was originally built and owned in the early 1700’s by a woodcutter who was employed by the Royal Estate and was originally named Rose Cottage, until at some point in the 20th century when the cottage was renamed Cago Cottage. Since purchasing the property we have renamed and registered the property as Woodcutters Cottage to reflect the unique history of this beautiful chocolate box cottage. Many of the original features can still be found today including the ‘dry stone wall’ that can be seen from the lodge window and fresh water drinking well. A further point of interest is that both the cottage and the lodge can be seen on the current New Forest ordnance survey map, which always helps if you’re out trekking and trying to find your way home!

The solent is among one of the very best sailing waters in the world and the Jurassic coast is on our doorstep starting at the absolutely stunning Studland bay, with its crystal clear water and sandy beaches. Winter or Summer, Spring or Autumn the New Forest is a very special place to be, with endless forest walks, cosy pubs, roaring fires and excellent food a welcome so warm that you won't want to leave.

2 night stay
Bit disappointed no access to forest from property, there is no outside area at all because the cabin is basically on the owners back garden! Would have been nice to have had some outside area to sit and enjoy the beautiful area. Also a stray cat kept coming in not good for allergy sufferers. I got really ill 2nd day couldn't breath properly. Lovely couple lovely lodge just not what we were expecting to be honest.
Lovely new forest lodge
Really beautiful location within the forest. Lovely cosy lodge which was clean and comfortable. Really friendly owner and easy check in.
A lovely cosy cabin ideal for 5 people. It can accommodate 6 but two people have to share a sofa bed and that is cramped for two fully grown adults. The owners were kind enough to let me know. They are also very accommodating with great recommendations re activities such as cycling. The cabin is also in a good location with its proximity to hiking and biling routes. I would also recommend using Trax Tyres (Karen) to hire bikes. They are fab.
All in all a great weekend experience and the owners are great too.
Lovely short stay
We enjoyed staying here very much. It was just right for our family of five. The area is beautiful.
We did pass the property once since the roads are narrow and we came in the opposite direction from the sign. The bedrooms are small but comfortable.
We liked cooking our own breakfast with the fresh eggs provided by the host along with the groceries we could store in the refrigerator. They kindly provided a bottle of wine and some cookies/biscuits as well as supplies for tea and coffee.
The kitchen/living/dining area is large and had all the amenities we needed.
My oldest complained about spotty wi-fi, but it was fine for uploading some photos, social media, maybe just not streaming media.
My sons made quick friends with a cat that was around outside and were sad to leave it.
I recommend the lodge if you are coming to the New Forest.
Host very nice. Accommodation perfect for what we wanted. Just right for 4 adults.
Clean. Tidy. Beautiful location.
A cosy base to explore the New Forest
We stayed for three Autumnal days and had a wonderful time.
The lodge had everything we needed comfortable beds, roomy living space, heating and hot water. It was wonderfully quiet and peaceful.
It is worth spending some time outside looking at the stars, there is no light pollution so plenty to see.
Easy access to the Forest for walking and also to the coast for a change of scene.
Would thoroughly recommend it for a family trip.
