Renowned architect Cecil Burns built The Point in 1927. After the First World War, he spent a period of time convalescing in Falmouth and was so clearly taken by the outstanding views from the headland in Flushing that he decided to build a house here. Today, this impressive property is one of our featured dog-friendly holiday homes and we are delighted to be able to share it with you.

Typical of the bright, sunny feel of all the rooms in this house, the lounge has been tastefully decorated in whites and creams and furnished with quality pieces and colourful fabrics. A cosy seating area has been created around a cast-iron wood-burner, with a pair of comfy sofas. The owners have equipped the lounge with a Freeview TV and complimentary Wi-Fi access is also available for those who like to keep in touch with friends or family whilst on holiday. The stand-out feature of this inviting room is the pair of French doors which open out onto a large paved terrace sitting to the side of The Point’s pretty garden. A wooden table and eight chairs have been provided to enable you to sit in comfort and admire the sea view over a long, leisurely brunch.

Designed to make the very most out of the views afforded here, this property’s circular dining room is a particularly sunny space, with a large bay window. The kitchen at The Point is another light, bright room. Decorated with a blue and white colour scheme, this room offers plenty of storage space and benefits from a breakfast bar and a good range of appliances including a double fan-assisted oven, a fridge/freezer and a dishwasher.

Step through the side door in the kitchen and you find yourself on the spacious side patio which overlooks the rest of this property’s delightful garden. Landscaped to provide a number of areas at different levels from which you can enjoy the ever-changing sea views, the garden is laid largely to lawn and boasts a number of colourful flower beds. A particularly special feature here is the decked seating area perched at the bottom of the garden, overlooking the water; a magical spot for a glass or two of something chilled at the end of a fun-filled day. Follow the flight of steps down further from this point across the rocks and you will arrive at a secluded area of beach.

The Point sleeps up to eight people and has four spacious bedrooms. The master suite, stylishly decorated with white walls and polished wooden floor setting of luxurious coloured fabrics, is located on the ground floor. This spacious room benefits from a contemporary en-suite bathroom with W.C. and generous walk-in shower. Double doors from the master bedroom open out onto a terrace boasting amazing water views; a truly luxurious touch. The property’s three further bedrooms, which are located upstairs, have been decorated with style and echo the light colour scheme of the rest of this tasteful house and all boast spectacular southerly views across the bay towards Falmouth harbour. A spacious double bedroom with dual-aspect windows, another pretty double and a twin room complete the sleeping accommodation here.

Also on the first floor is the family bathroom which comprises a white suite of W.C. and bath with shower over. The house also benefits from an additional W.C. Quality bed linen and towels are provided throughout for guests’ use.

Flushing is said to be one of the warmest villages in the UK because it has an idyllic sheltered south-facing aspect, between the banks of the Penryn River and Falmouth Harbour.

It became popular in the eighteenth century as the choice location for the wealthy Packet Ship captains, and was visited by Admiral Nelson. Latterly it has become one of the most sought-after locations anywhere in the West Country.

Flushing's streets are lined with picture-postcard traditional terraced fisherman’s cottages, and beautiful unspoilt surrounding countryside. There are two great pubs serving excellent food and a stunning fish restaurant on the quayside as well as a friendly village shop.

The passenger ferry runs between Flushing and Falmouth every half hour, and there are regular boat trips available on the Helford River and the Fal Estuary.

Falmouth Bay and Mylor Yacht Harbour all within reach. Flushing has a Sailing Club that welcomes guests, and it’s own dog-friendly beach!

Golf: Falmouth has an excellent golf course approx 5 miles from Flushing that welcomes visitors.

  • The Point sleeps eight in four bedrooms, with the benefit of an additional double sofa bed for occasional use. The master bedroom has a king-sized double bed and an en-suite bathroom. French windows offer an amazing view across the bay, and lead to a terrace. The second bedroom has a large double bed and is a pretty room with dual aspect views out towards Falmouth docks and across to Falmouth town. The Third bedroom has twin beds, whilst the fourth bedroom has a double bed. Both of these bedrooms also have sea views across the bay to Falmouth. PLEASE NOTE: Maximum occupancy is 6 adults and 2 children. We regret that we are unable to accept parties of 8 adults.

Notes:
The traditional lounge has a wood burning stove and bay windows with double doors leading to a secluded terrace, the perfect spot for al-fresco dining with extensive sea views. The sunny dining room is a real feature. Circular in shape, the views towards Falmouth docks are quite simply mesmerising, and many hours can be spent watching the comings and goings in the busy harbour from here. The modern kitchen is spacious, with a breakfast bar and all modern appliances, including double fan assisted oven, fridge / freezer and dish washer. There are extensive sea views and a side door leads into the pretty terraced garden.
